just announced at Gamescom, sounds like it may not be a main series game but a spin off like The Journey.

Seems like it may be a four player coop thing; every hero must be tested.

What is adventure without danger, says trailer. What is a fale without a hero.

Or you could be the villain. Make your choice. Fable legends, Xbox one exclusive,

Phil spencer very excited for it, made bylionhead. Online, new generation..most beautiful fable ever created. Has smart glass functionality

more on the game:

Quote
Fable Legends is designed around five people playing at once, though should you wish to play alone the AI will take over the roles of your companions and the antagonist. That, though, is not the game that Lionhead has designed. The four heroes I saw all played very differently - Prince Charming was closest to classic Fable gameplay, with the camera hanging back above his shoulders, where the archer was viewed through an over-the-should, third-person-shooter perspective. The warrior woman, meanwhile, was the tank of the party, where the magician Winter is a support class whose freezing spell stops enemies in their tracks for one of the others to shatter. These are classic MMO roles, but the combat is far from the sterile experience that can sometimes define that genre. It looks accessible, fast-paced and very physical. Playing alone, you can switch between these party members at will.

Quote
"This is the next big Fable game that is going to be out for five to ten years so it needs to be big, it needs to be interesting," he said.

"There needs to be a lot of stuff to do, it needs to integrate all the cloud and Xbox One features so we keep our community alive and growing. So yeah, it's big and ambitious, but it needs to be because it's going to be around a long time."

Needham also claimed that Xbox executive Phil Harrison wanted Lionhead to build "the most ambitious Fable game you can possibly get".

"Harrison wants us to make an absolutely great game that's compelling and beautiful, and has options that are second to none in this space," said Needham.

He said the studio was "pivoting".

"It's about taking that spirit of innovation that's always been here at Lionhead with Fable and Black & White and The Movies and applying that to online."

Fable Legends was revealed for the first time at Gamescom. Early details of the title can be found here.

A beta for the project is planned, though it's not believed that the Fable title is close to release.

Hmm...not very happy about this. So, now instead of paying $60 for a full fable experience.....I now get to pay, let's say $30 (wouldn't put it past them to charge full price though) for the base game...then extra for DLC "seasons"??

Monetizing beyond that initial sale is the big thing for games now. From the DLC map packs to getting gamers to buy season passes to turn $60 games into $100 ones is the new thing it seems.

Which is why I stick to PC for those type of games, especially if they're Steam games.  I know they'be available super cheap later on.  Console DLC prices tend to be rather sticky.

Huh.  Not totally surprising, I guess, since it never looked great and they've been so quiet on it for a while.

The bigger surprise to me is this:

...and are in discussions with employees about the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios in the UK. Additionally, we will close Press Play Studios in Denmark, and sunset development on Project Knoxville.

Man, Microsoft has some really shitty track record with buying decent companies and kind of slowly killing them over time.

For those who can't remember, Press Play Studios were the guys that made Max and the Magic Marker and the sequel Max: The Curse of Brotherhood.

Oh wow that's pretty sad, it seemed like they had something interesting on their hands.  I tried the beta a couple of times and it looked like it had potential.

As a witness to what they did to WebTV years ago (I was an employee), this is what Microsoft excels at. Acquiring companies for their tech or engineering knowledge and then letting the rest go to shit.

Sadly this is the end result of most acquisitions. In tech I'm of the belief that they've hindered progress by at least a decade.

Fable, Gears, and Halo. With the exception of Forza, all of their AAA "anchor" exclusives have become shadows of what they once were. With the resurgence of Playstation, the improvements of PS+, and Sony's large stable of exclusives, I don't see Xbox live being able to maintain a competitive advantage over Sony.

Exclusives define a console, and the xbox brand is turning into an also ran. There was a time when I was worried about the rumors of an xbox brand spinoff. I think I would welcome it now.

Completely disagree. Halo 5's SP is plain goofy with its story but the multiplayer 343 did is halo at its best. Gears we have no idea until 4 hits.
