love the zombie counts and the open world elements.  I hope the smartglass stuff isn't the only way to deal with hordes though.  seems like a cheap cheat to get you to buy in.

Dead Rising 1 was a 360 exclusive for 3 years before they finally ported it... to the Wii.

True, but consoles were far ahead of PC games at the time, so options were limited. The situation is different now, with PCs being equal or better than the new generation before it has even launched. Microsoft is also trying to promote Windows 8, so who knows what they'll do?

Probably something stupid if recent weeks are any indication.

Did people really think this looked so great? I mean, the only thing I liked about it, was the mass and density of zombies but other than that, the gameplay looked insanely dull and like everything we've seen before the last 5 years.

I think the game looked great, but it didn't look like a Dead Rising game....and you know what,i think i may get a little fed up with all those Zombies on the screen at once, sure its cool to see,.but having to go back and forth like the usual DR games..it could get very annoying

either way,it looked good, but i am in no desire to DAY ONE BUY!!!!...I'll get it cheap, when i pick up a Xbox One when the XB1 is lower than 300 quid..or when it comes to PS4 Tongue

my main drawing point may be the fact that it didn't look like a Dead Rising game.  I have 2 on the PC but it always felt a bit silly (plus I hated the child aspect, kid needed a mercy killing biggrin)

Yeah, the most interesting part was that it looked more like State of Decay than Dead Rising.  Tongue

I dunno if this is just a show off demo but any sense of helplessness this game could create seems to be dimished by the fact that weapons/items are everywhere and your guy is a powerhouse on top of it. Will have to wait and see some more on this one.

some tidbits about the game.  don't worry, the silliness is still present:

Quote
During the demo, our new hero Nick put on a full-bodied shark mascot costume, plopped some traffic cones on the heads of a few unfortunate zombies, and then proceeded to hack them to bits using a newly-crafted flaming sword. If that doesn’t sound like Dead Rising, I don’t know what does.

and the psychopaths are back too:

Quote
Aside from the shockingly high number of zombies on screen, the other impressive technical aspect of DR3 is the fact that once you’re in the game, you won’t see a loading screen. At no point throughout your traversal of Los Perididos will you have to put down your controller and wait. You can pop in and out of buildings, go scurrying through the sewers, and drive from downtown to the ritzy sunset hills without ever being pulled out of the game. The fact that I can tackle all of Dead Rising 3's Psychopaths (yep, they're back) without a load screen sounds wonderful to me

Sorry Germany but like Dead Rising 1 and Dead Rising 2,Dead Rising 3 won't be released in your country

Quote
"Dead Rising 3 will not be released in Germany as part of the Xbox One launch line-up on Nov. 22 having been unable to attain an age-rating upon review by BPjM (Bundeprüfstelle für jugendgefährende Medien), the country’s entertainment software self-regulation body," a Microsoft spokesperson told Destructoid.

"While Microsoft is disappointed with this decision, we respect the views of the review panel and have withdrawn Dead Rising 3 from Germany’s Xbox One launch line-up. Dead Rising 3 will still be available in all other launch markets on 22 November 2013. Beyond that, we have no further comment.”

Online / import restricted as well? IIRC, the restriction isn't at MS's level, but controlled by the publisher. In this case it would be Microsoft Games, as opposed to Microsoft Xbox division.

The problem with creating unique Smartglass features (or any second-screen BS), is that you have to ask your self "If this is truly a fun and engaging experience, why not allow all players to access it instead of just those who use an extra peripheral?".

When I'm playing a game, I want to stay focused on the game.  I don't want to look down to a second device and set my controller down to interact with it.  You can only focus on one of them at a time anyway, so just integrate it into the base experience.  It's the same problem that the WiiU has except even worse.

Think GTA IV - the phone was shoehorned into the game and you used a controller to interact with it.

This is an optional function - there is no requirement to use it - but it gives you a whole separate phone interface and lets you do things like call in airstrikes, take calls from these NPCs and even call in help from people you've saved at safe zones.

For an option feature, which is smartphone agnostic (WP8, Win8(x)RT, Android, iOS) I think it's a pretty cool thing.

I think one of the interviews mentioned there was no timer like there was in the first 2 games.

[edit] here we go.  no timer in regular mode.

Quote
In regular mode, Dead Rising 3 doesn’t have a timer, so you’re free to explore the world which Capcom Vancouver says is several times bigger than Dead Rising 1 and Dead Rising 2 combined. The story still has branch points and players will be able to choose which path they want to go on. These choices stick, so depending on your decisions you may or may not unlock Overtime, a game and story extending episode. Fans of the series can play Dead Rising 3 in Nightmare Mode which has the timer and manual saves. You can also play at your own pace in regular mode and after leveling Nick up move him to Nightmare Mode. This starts your story progress all over again, but it will make Nightmare Mode easier and Capcom Vancouver says Dead Rising 3 is more difficult than the other games. There are rewards for completing Nightmare Mode, but Capcom wouldn’t say what those are.
