Great review Purge and I'm so looking forward to getting back into this game once my replacement XB1 arrives

Can you make it so only friends can join you matches.  Had a random guy drop in for my first psycho battle and he ran off while I killed him.  When he came back dude grabbed his weapon, so I never got to add it to my collection

I put in another co-op session last night. If you can swing it, that's really the best way to play through this game. Sooooo much fun, and it works really, really well. It gives you new strategies in terms of gameplay. For instance, most side missions have a time limit, and sometimes you can rack up 2 or 3 side missions all ticking down at once. Occasionally we'll split up and each tackle a separate side mission so we don't run out of time. Or one of us will go vehicle scouting while the other heads to an objective on foot, then when we find a car go pick the other up.

About the only thing that sucks in co-op is boss fights, because when you're both wailing away on the same boss you tend to just hit each other and knock each other down. To get around this, we'd either have one of us go ranged and the other melee, or simply let one person beat up the boss and tag team swap-out once health got low.

For co-op just keep in mind you have to have your partner in the same Xbox party with you, and then you have to invite them from within the game - took me a bit of Googling to figure that out the first time.

Thanks Tru1cy!

Yeah that's where I like the party system.... it makes sense that way (rather than what we're used to). They just need to let people establish a party when sending an invite - or call it something else for a game match (I like virtual couch personally).

I stayed away from talking about the psychos, but yeah you can get special weapons from them. The gimp cowboy with the penis gun was probably the most useful, though the trafficlight+battery + liquid nitrogen is similar.

To answer the question, when you start your game, go to prefs and set to single player only to avoid that. The next step would be to make a party when you wanted to invite someone, and from the menu screen (not survival guide) you can then invite the party to play.

Give them weapons so they don't die? Tell them to scavenge? Give them food?

If you run, they generally keep up. If they're down under a zombie, help them?

slywink

Go to a safehouse, look at the board. You can select or remove survivors.

If you're separated (and they have decent health and a good weapon) they'll generally survive.

Note that they can generally take combo weapons, but not combo+ weapons. Unfortunately you can't get them to run around with a flare gun - but the saving grace of survivors is that they don't run out of ammo - so an LMG or some of the gun-based combo weapons are ideal for them.

Some of your upgrade paths give you +2 survivors in your party - I believe 5 is the max. Also, there are two upgrade skills that make men and women stronger (respectively).

I just posted up the same thing on the DLC and Demo, but here's the part that caught my attention:  http://gamingtrend.com/2013/12/13/dead-rising-3-gets-dlc-demo/

"The 20-minute timed sandbox can be experienced up to two times per gamertag."

Ok, I get it - it's an open world so you have to lock it down a bit in hopes you'll buy it, but limits on demos?  That's kinda new....

Timed demos aren`t new, but with the Xbone`s ability to recognize you perhaps that adds a new level of creepy in terms of control. You could probably sign out of the console if you so choose.

That section isn`t nearly as fun - initially you don`t have the perks (zombie swim on the agility upgrade path, for instance)to fly through the opening section, so you`re spending your time that represents the slowest part of the game.

Okay,i am calling it...this is already getting out of hand

Dead Rising 3 update =13gb

FWIW-this does not add 13 gig,it overwrites some of what you already have of the 25 gb game, and in the end it just adds around 1.5gb..but you still have to download the 13 gb for the update

Quote
Users have reported the update does not add 13GB to the total size of Dead Rising 3. Instead it overwrites previous data, leaving the total game size of Dead Rising 3 at around 25GB.

"For those worrying about HDD space, apparently 12GB of it re-writes original data so your only adding another 1.5GB of space. Hopefully it includes most of or all of the upcoming DLC, so its just a case of unlocking it," posted a user.

Digital Foundry are finding it hard to see much difference in performance before and after the patch

Quote
In some scenes we actually see the pre-patched game put out slightly higher metrics, but this simply reflects variances in gameplay between our two test runs. Overall, it's hard to see where exactly the improvements in performance have been made, suggesting that the optimisations are rather more subtle than we were hoping for. In the first two to three levels at least, there are no obviously noticeable signs of the smoother experience promised by Capcom Vancouver, and a close look at the game's real-time cinematics reveals almost completely identical frame-rates in exact like-for-like scenes, where the rendering load is very closely duplicated on repeat playthroughs. Clearly, cinematics alone won't be engaging many of the game's sub-systems, but it does suggest that the core rendering engine hasn't seen any fundamental upgrades, as sudden drops in frame-rate occur at exactly the same moments.

I didn't find it bad at all, really.  The performance never hampered my fun at all, and it was a ton of fun.

On another note, has anybody tried the Operation Broken Eagle DLC?  Is it any good?  Even if it's just more of the same that's probably good enough, since I enjoyed the base game quite a lot.

I've only been burned by season passes in the past, so I didn't want to jump in until I heard some impressions.

to elaborate, that they put a huge patch out and that it does nothing to address what they claim it was addressing.  granted, there was a lot of DLC from what I've heard, but they don't make a good argument for their optimization fixes.

To be honest I'm kind of glad the DLC isn't that great (from a purely selfish standpoint). The game was AWESOME while it lasted, but after having beat it on Nightmare I'm not in any real mood to dive back into it.

Looks like this game may be coming to Steam in the near future. The Steam databases contain not only a hidden app (ie. unannounced game) with that name, but also contains a banner image and an icon for it.

That's great news for PC gamers, and I might almost be willing to double dip and play through this again if it isn't full price.

Kind of bad news for Microsoft, though, since I felt like DR3 was one of the best reasons for my Xbox One.

I'm not really sure it matters much this long after the game's original release. Those who were willing to buy an Xbox One for this game have probably already done so.

Certainly, the people who would buy the console solely for that game already probably did.  But for those holding off it all comes down to the tipping point where there are enough games that you want to play to make it pass your mental purchase barrier.  Having one less exclusive game for people looking to pick up an Xbone (or any console) makes it slightly less appealing.

Definitely.  DR3 looks interesting (as did ZombieU) but neither game was enough to push me over the edge by itself.  Now, with this coming to PC, I'll just wait til it comes out and may even wait until a sale.  I've waited this long, so even at full price, it's less interesting than games hitting now and over the next 6 months.
