I didn't see a deadicated topic for this so I thought I would start one.

Here is a video I just watched on Gametrailers which shows quite a bit of gameplay and looks very cool

and here is a gameplay trailer on youtube which I acutally thought was worse at showing how to play the game but is more "flashy"

I don't normally like platormers because...well I suck at them but I did like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and this looks enough like it that I want to try it out.

Well, it's not really like the Galaxy series just because you're not jumping from planet to planet and such, but certainly closer to it than New Super Mario Bros.  I loved the version that came out on 3DS and I wish this version was on that as well because the 3D is really nice on it, but I know the Wii U needs more standout titles to try to sell units.  Definitely anxiously awaiting this one.

3D Land was a lot of fun on the 3DS and Iím definitely looking forward to this one.  That said, Nintendo needs to work on their naming structure because these names are not doing them any favors.  Most people I know think this is just a port of the 3DS game, which is par for the course since people also think the WiiU in an accessory for the Wii and that the 3DS is just a normal DS that can do 3D.

Well, they certainly cleared up that last bit of confusion with the 2DS which is a 3DS that can't do the 3D.

I was not impressed at all when I played this at E3 but the latest trailer made the game look incredibly fun, and Destructoid had some very positive post-E3 impressions.

Ok, this game is looks fucking amazing - latest trailer.

I'm thinking of canceling my PS4 pre-order and just getting a Wii U instead this Fall.

Overall, yeah, but the Wii U is still dry I would say.

Played it at PAX with 4 players.

It's really good. They also really toned down the players screwing over other players aspects of previous games. Although it's probably as much from the game being 3D, so everyone's not stepping over each other's toes.

That's good to hear. I don't intend to play with more than one other person at a time but I wasn't a fan of that aspect of NSMB.

Just got my review copy yesterday evening. I didn't have my Wii U hooked up to my video capture unit, so I didn't play too much, but I finished level 1-1. Haven't played enough to make a firm judgement yet, but Luigi still jumps like a nerd (even though he's my favorite character) and it's really weird hearing everyone meow in their cat suits. Look for my review on the 19th.

One thing I think that makes this game work is that we've finally gotten good lighting solutions for simulating global illumination. It's really allowed for simpler polygonal shapes to still look good despite simpler textures.

Back in animation studies, I showed some friends how to use GI to present their simpler, cartoon models when they were upset over them not displaying as they had imagined.

Are you talking about the lighting effect that produces white outlines around the characters? If so, that's an effect they already mastered with the first Super Mario Galaxy.

Nah, it's the overall shading on top of that. The white outlines are either rim lighting or a cell shading filter.

I think I know what Turtle is talking about. The textures of these games look more solid somehow, which is a good thing.

Seriously... I wonder what the pre-order numbers look like. I think after the dust settles from the PS4 and XB1 launches we'll see a lot more attention paid to this game, assuming it's as amazing as the videos make it out to be.

just went to pre-order this on Amazon, and apparently they are already out of stock (it doesn't say it on the main page but when you go to check out it says it).  I guess the pre-orders are doing well?

Yeah, I couldn't even find it by searching for the name of the game on there.

Yeah, I couldn't even find it by searching for the name of the game on there.

if you do a search and click on Wii U in the sidebar under 'departments' it should be the first game, but yeah, just searching for the game name doesn't make it pop up.  When you go to the check out screen it says 'Temporarily out of stock. We'll email you a delivery estimate when this becomes available.'

I hit pre-order- add to cart, then I hit checkout, and on the submit page it gives the out of stock message.  I can still order, I just have no clue when it will arrive.  I've attached a pic to illustrate.

Craziness. I always figured they would just preorder to a point and then place their stock orders then. I wonder if this has anything to do with the bad blood between NOA and Amazon. I am going digital with Mario so not too worried, I would go Amazon otherwise.

I was going to, but there's a problem with the gamepad. I need to call Nintendo and get it fixed when I'm not feeling so lazy.

I couldn't believe the gritty direction they took this. A close up knife stabbing felt like it was ripped from Saving Private Ryan, and felt really out of place, considering the rest of the series...

And the sex scene just feels totally out of place, even if it does make good use of the second screen.

Damn, I'm reading more and more about this, and it's really finally making me wish I had a Wii U.  I've never really gotten into any of the previous 3d Marios, even Mario 64, but this looks too special to skip.

If they let me use a real controller and put camera controls on the right stick I would do it in a second.  I quit playing very early on the Wii because I really dislike their camera and not having control of it.
