You could play Luigi in the first one. Unless you didn't have the skillz to unlock him

That is a travesty. Paid for mine already on Amazon (and got a $20 games credit!). I'm pumped. I got 241 stars in the first one, and this one promises to be harder in some places.

Yep I did the same thing, going to have to brush off the Wii though, it has been a long time since I've used it.

<Runs from the wii jokes> I still need to finish the first one but will nab this one someday. My wii gets lots of use but mostly with the lego games cooping with my kid. Need to get back to its games but I'm still mostly a pc'er since wifer is normally hogging the tv.

My local library buys volumes of the Super Mario games upon release -must be a Librarian there that was a Mario freak in their childhood- and I'm 3rd on the reserve list. If for some reason that falls through, I'll buy my own copy. My kids and I loved the 1st SMG, but a bit more difficulty as promised in this one sits well with me.

Ars review Saying this is Nintendo at its platforming best is an understatement. This is the equivalent of a baseball player hitting nothing but home runs for an entire four-game series, calling his shots Babe-Ruth-style before each swing. Nintendo plays with the genre like there is nothing at stake, doing incredible things with it as if it's simply a decision to make a game this good. I don't have a Wii but if I did I think this would be a purchase for me.

Didn't the first one get perfect scores as well? I bought it after the rave reviews but couldn't really get into it. I dunno, maybe it's my Wii hate bias and not really the game.. then again maybe not. The game failed to grab me. I will probably get suckered into buying this one too.

smg1 is the only full-fledged motion control game i've ever truly enjoyed. but, having gone most of a year now without motion control, there's no way i'm going back (seriously: it's been nice ) - which's my loss, as i'm sure it's a pretty amazing game...

I'm starting to get a little annoyed. Every single website wants to spoil the game for me. I have GoNintendo in my feed reader and they keep posting "The first 15 minutes of SMG2!" I kind of don't want to know the first 15 minutes. I want to find out on my own.

Recently, they've grown less reliable. I've heard that a few times now, are there any particular examples? Because every review I read of theirs I feel is very accurate, not necessarily in the text because that's where opinions differ but the score is always the same that I would have given. I've never once been steered wrong, when they rate a game a 9 or 10 it means I really should experience the game, they don't give top scores out liberally.

This game is awesome. I like the first one but this one is really addictive and the worlds are just so different and so much to do that you don't get bored. It is deserving of its 10/10 rating the only knock that I could give it is the music, some of the songs are a little too much but other than that a wonderful fun game. I am so glad they did away with the hub world to get stars this new way is steamlined and you unlock different things on your spaceship so you can explore if you want too.

Dunno. I ordered it with the regular Prime 2 day. It shipped out yesterday, and their original estimate was Wednesday, but it looks like it shipped from Connecticut, so UPS updated the delivery estimate to Monday. Prime wins again!

Eurogamer and Gamespot joined the "10" crowd.
After being completely underwhelmed by New Super Mario Bros. Wii I had concluded that I just wasn't into Mario games anymore. But, this game which seems to generate nothing but perfect scores is making me reconsider. I guess I need to finish the first one and think about whether or not I want more.

Played through the first world yesterday. What is it about Nintendo where they can make games that are just pure fun? There was one level I did yesterday where my wife was watching and she got all nervous because it was basically a level of red and blue platforms and only one color appeared at a time. You flipped them by spinning and so you did a lot of jumping towards an empty hole and then spinning to make the platform appear below you. Add in enemies and other environmental hazards and it was a challenging (yet optional) level. She kept squirming while watching it because she thought it was so intense and crazy. This is what I love about Nintendo...they put in the easy stuff and they put in the hard stuff and it is up to the gamer to decide how far to go.
I also picked up a black Wii to celebrate and moved my launch Wii up to my son's room. I now have all black consoles. Also, I would swear that the picture on this new Wii is sharper.

Yeah, despite the near perfect scores the first SMG got, I wasn't able to sustain interest in it past the second galaxy. I'll be passing on the second go-round.
