No thread on this yet?  Slackers!  Anyways, one of the staff got some hands on Link at E3:

http://gamingtrend.com/2011/06/08/the-legend-of-zelda-the-skyward-sword-e3-hands-on-preview/

Since Twilight is finally down to a reasonable price I'm going to give it another go, but I think I'm looking forward to this one more.

It did make me reconsider selling my Wii.  I never play it but it can sit for a few months until this is out.  Zelda games are always top quality.

I watched the video for the Dungeon level demo at E3. The artstyle looks fantastic and the play mechanics look very sound. The Wiimotion+ support makes me very glad I didn't trade mine away. Definitely a day 1 for me.

huh?,it says its the earliest in the timeline of Zelda's and that's why Ganondorf is not the main villain...so not sure why Zelda is not a princess?

Quote
"This game talks about the birth of the Master Sword, and it touches on why Ganondorf showed up," Aonuma said. "If you play it, I think you'll get some understanding on that. It connects to Ocarina, so if you play Ocarina of Time 3D and move on to this game, I think you'll catch on to a lot of things."

I always thought every Zelda game was just a completely different story anyway, except OoT and MM

I figured the first section would get everyone excited:

Quote
Cabbage PatchSkyward Sword is CompleteCabbage Patch

While we've all been twiddling our thumbs, dying to hear a solid release date for Skyward Sword, it turns out we might not have to wait much longer. "The whole game is complete, and we're fine-tuning the balance right now," Aonuma said. "We were going to have it wholly done by around E3, but there's so much volume to it, neither I nor [Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto] have gotten to fully play out every aspect."

As it turns out, the game is not only finished, but the team is "trying to make this a simultaneous worldwide release." The reason is because "you have to put Zelda all out at once or else the story's going to get spoiled."

Day one for me!  I love Zelda.  I wish it were a month sooner but oh well.

Of course it does mean I will be playing it and Skyrim at the same time but that it the kind of pain I can live with.

First review is out.  ONM liked it.  Surprise, I know, but they really liked it.  Same score as OOT 3D: 98%.  Highest ever score for a Wii game.

Quote
The first review ever of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is included in the latest issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine.

Like Ocarina of Time 3D, ONM handed out a 98% score for Skyward Sword. The magazine believes that it is the “best Zelda game ever made.” It’s worth mentioning that this is the highest score that ONM has ever given to a Wii game.

The reviewer also wrote, “It’s not something we say lightly, but the Zelda series really has never been this good.”

Regarding game length, players can expect 35 hours for the main quest alone. Side-quests, bug collecting, and more will add to that amount:

“There are about 35 hours to be spent on Skyward Sword’s main quest along, and at least double that if you plan on dipping into the game’s plentiful side-quests, collecting all of the insects, upgrading all of the items, discovering the locations of the Goddess Cubes and exploring the world.”

But which one has the sword?  The other one might be able to give a rim job, so I guess it depends on who the argument's with.

As much as I've loved the Zelda series in the past, Skyrim wins hands down.

That said - I've already asked for Zelda (the CE, as I don't have the Wii Motion+ dongle thingy as my Wii sits dormant and unplugged) for Christmas.

I went the other way and picked Zelda.  There is never any more content for a Zelda game so I know I will be getting the final, full verson.  With Skyrim I just know that within a year there will be a GOTY edition with expansions, improvements etc.

More gorgeous videos for your viewing pleasure.  I am really torn as to whether I like this better or Skyrim.  They are both stunning but both very different in their style.

Luckily I can play both!

I've been watching the videos and I'm thoroughly impressed, the only thing holding me back from playing is my distaste for the Wii. Shitty console barrier aside, I think Zelda is going to be an amazing gaming experience.

I agree. I HATE that godawful Wii controller, and the videos I've seen show the "+" and "-" buttons being used extensively in combat. Talk about carpal tunnel sydrome, those buttons are horribly placed. Still,  I'll do my best to get past it. Zelda games are buckets of fun.

I'm having a fairly big disconnect with the people that are raving about the graphics, however. It looks like a late generation PSP game.

Yeah, I hate the controller and waggle in general, but gotta take the good with the bad when it comes to a Zelda game. I'm sure it will be great despite the crap that is the Wii.

I was reading IGN's impressions and they said its actually one of the best controlling games they've ever played. I'm fine with the Wii and the Wiimote when utilized well, the problem is so many of the games don't do so.

I'm on the fence about buying a Wii again for Zelda or not, I feel like as a gamer though I should experience this.

IGN's review is out. Perfect 10.

I know this opening quote may be hyperbole, but it gets me giddy even so:

Quote

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the greatest Zelda game ever created. It's the best game for Wii and one of the finest video game accomplishments of the past 10 years.
