I saw this article at GameSpot:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6175362.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=newstop&tag=newstop;title;9
Based on last months sales the Wii outsold the 360 and PS3 in Canada in a serious way. Here's Junes Sales:

Consoles
Wii  53K
PS2 21K
360 13.5K
PS3   6.5K

Portables
DS  45K
PSP 18.5K

Damn that's a 4:1 ratio for the Wii over the 360 and a 8:1 ratio over the PS3! This supports something I've been saying for a while; the 360 and PS3 may be too expensive for the US market, but they're far too expensive for the CDN market. Microsoft Canada has really got to wake up about this and change their strategy for the 360 Premium. Selling it a $499 with 1 or 2 bundled games that many consumers just don't want is not working. They need to make it's price equate with the US price after exchange; about $429. It will be interesting to see if the 60GB PS3 makes up ground on the 360 in July now that it's been lowered to $549 at most retailers.

Top 10 game sales were also interesting:

Quote
1. Mario Party 8--Wii
2. Wii Play with Wii Remote--Wii
3. Pokémon Diamond--DS
4. Value Pack (included games vary)--Xbox
5. Forza Motorsport 2--Xbox 360
6. Pokémon Pearl--DS
7. Guitar Hero II with guitar--Xbox 360
8. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition--Wii
9. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess--Wii
10. Super Paper Mario--Wii

There's not a single Sony title from any of their platforms! Also surprising that LOZ:TP is still in the 9th spot and good to see that RE4 is making a dent. Not sure what the XBox Value Pack is, but just amazing that it took the 4th spot! IMO this goes to show just how inept EA and 2K Sports are by not bringing their NHL series to the Wii; give us a hockey game you hosers!  icon_twisted

obviously Canadians are all 360/Wii fanboys.  That's the only thing that could explain those numbers.  I just don't get the Canadian hate for Sony.

those are some impressive numbers.  The Wii and DS are outselling all the competitors combined.  GO NINTENDO!!!

Yup, I guess the Wii60 phenomena is alive and well in The Great White North. The funny thing is, last console gen the PS2 owned the market here in a very big way. You couldn't talk to a Canadian gamer that wouldn't ladle out praise for the PS2 as thick as maple syrup;  and I'm talking Canadian maple syrup not that watery stuff down south. icon_biggrin

erm... No. Xbox1 adoption % rates were higher in Canada than in the US; don't ask me to quote sources anymore. (that was a long time ago). Anyways, here's an interesting chart. It's too bad I don't have the NPD numbers for June US consoles, otherwise they'd be here.

If someone posts them, I will add them.

Note that we have 31.6million canadians in contrast to 300million americans. (wiki links on the table headers). That's a ratio of 1 : 9.49
Console Canada US(CDN x 9.49)US ActualUS Estimate
Wii53k503k ? 435k
PS221k199k ? 235k
36013.5k128k ? 200
PS36.5k62k ? 100k
NDS45k427k ? 550k
PSP18.5k176k ? 250k

Awesome math Purge! I saw those June NA stats as well -believe they were from 2 analysts- and was thinking of building a similar table; of course I was too lazy to do it. smile

Anyhow...I was thinking the same thing, the Wii adoption rate in Canada is higher on a per-capita basis than in the US. You're also right about the Xbox. When I said Canadian gamer I was thinking more of the casual Canadian gamer. If I recall correctly, last gen the Xbox gained market share in Canada more at the expense of Nintendo than Sony; it really was the hardcore gamers' choice. I've no doubt the 360 will be as well, as a lot of fence sitters like myself will buy 1 when the new SKU arrives or the price drops. Based on the good footing the XBox got in Canada, I really don't see the PS3 taking much of the hardcore gamer maket.

BTW: N.A. NPD stats won't be out until Monday, July 23rd.

I am guessing based on anecdotal data that the PS3 will do better in North America in July due to the price drop. Since the price was lowered things have returned to earlier in the year around here where I only see 360's for sale and stores out of Wiis AND PS3s. It will be interesting to see how long this bump to the PS3 sales lasts.

They're still gathering dust around here, and still no Wii's.  I've been trying to help a friend find a Wii so I've been on the lookout.

That the game actually sucks? (IMHO)

That there were no must-haves on any other platform?

That this is the second mario game released on the platform?

That the system has had a drought of games so the first mario to show up is snapped up?

That the Wii is a party system, so the party games sell well for it?

Admittedly 1st and 2nd place are a bit of an embarrassment, although it can be argued that Wii Play is a good buy as it gives you a wiimote and some games for just $10 more than the regular cost of the controller. However, every other title on that top 10 list is an AA if not an AAA quality game. I finally figured out what the XBox value packs are; 2 XBox games shrink wrapped together for $20. One of the bundles includes Pandora Tomorrow and The Suffering: Ties that Bind; not too shabby!

If people are content with 480p graphics max, wonky control, and uninteresting games, then so be it.

Let's not rehash that again, especially since the PS3 you can get in the store, at this moment, DID drop $100.

If people like the Wii, thats fine, but having owned one, and sold one, I don't miss it, nor do I see the draw of the system. The 360 and PS3 may not be selling out in stores, but for this gamer, they are 10 times the system the Wii is, and the game library much more interesting and fun.
