[Wii] How does it look on larger HD sets?

I'm considering buying a Wii (SSBB is teh awesome) but I'm concerned with how the image will look on my 42" HDTV as I've heard that the image becomes blurred on larger sets. My model is the Philips 42PFL7432D/37, if anyone has any personal experience. Any input?

Looks fine on my TV, but it's only a 32" LCD.  Obviously the component cables and 480p setting help with image quality.  We have a much larger TV at work (52" maybe?) and it seems to look OK on that too.

Wii on my 32" really looked bad, really blurry, had component, had it at 420p and I couldn't get it to look good, I do have a cheaper set and not high def stuff looks pretty bad in general.

I've heard that on low-quality HDTVs the image doesn't scale well but on higher quality it looks much better, I don't consider 32' to be large though. I was thinking 40' and up. What brand/model is your TV, nymanium?

I have a 42" Sony Wega Projection/LCD from about 3 years ago, image looks good. I can't tell any blurring, but I'll do some checking on a non-hd set vs. this one to confirm.

Depends entirely on the TV.
If a standard def tv signal looks good on it, Wii should too.

I have a 50" lcd Sony Wega and my Wii hooked up via component and I think it looks fantastic.

50" Panasonic plasma 1080p.  The Wii looks excellent.

Looks fine on a 42' Panasonic Plasma (720p). One thing not mentioned with image quality is calibrating the picture. I had forgotten to calibrate the video input I hooked the PS2 up to and games looked horrible. The color was washed out and a lot of jaggies. I figured it was just how the system looked on an HDTV.

Then I figured out I didn't calibrate the picture settings and it was using the TV's default vivid setting. After I calibrated it the picture games looked a hell of a lot better. No more washed out colors and the jaggies decreased significantly.

I would not expect the crispness of the 360 visuals. But if you're having fun playing the games you won't give a damn.

IMO, it depends on the game - "photorealistic" titles don't hold up so well.  Wii Sports, Super Paper Mario, etc. looks fine on my 50" Sony DLP, but Resident Evil 4 looks terrible.

I have that same tv, and it looks fine.  It will look a little better with component, but not a huge difference.

I know what Wii games are supposed to look like, we played SSBB on my friend's 27' HDTV set all weekend and it looked great. I'm just worried about games looking too blurry on a larger set. I ordered a pair of component cables for $10 off Mono incase I make the plunge, any ideas on where I can find the system?

Back when the system came out people were claiming that non-Nintendo component cables had an inferior picture. I don't know if there is any truth to that, but you might want to look into Nintendo brand cables.

As for the system, I always see them at Target.

Well, I would think many things would look vomitish on a 65' TV.  By the way, how is it living in an aircraft hangar?

Back when the system came out people were claiming that non-Nintendo component cables had an inferior picture. I don't know if there is any truth to that, but you might want to look into Nintendo brand cables.

LOL our 27" SDTV must really be tiny then. Amazing what one can consider big and tiny. I've never had anything bigger than 27", so 32" is large to me.

It also really depends on the game.  No More Heroes is jaggie crazy, Zelda is decent but noticeably jaggied, and Mario Galaxy looks so crisp I can forget it's not 720p.

I've found it to be much more game dependent.

Some games look fine (a little blurry, but fine) some feel like I'm looking at an early PS1 game again.

It's mainly the bright and colorful games that scale well. SSBB, Mario galaxy, Mario Party, Rayman Raving Rabbids- all look fine.

Take a game that is less colorful and it's pretty painful (I thought Zelda and RE4 were pretty horrible looking).

If you've only ever played a PS2 a GameCube or even an XBox running at 480p widescreen, then you'd be quite pleased with the look of a Wii running at 480p whether it was on a 27", 42" or 50" screen. However, if you've played a PS3 or 360 running at 720p or higher I can't imagine how you would not be dissapointed with it. If you're expecting anything close to state of the art graphical eye candy I'd advise not getting one.
If you do still decide to get one, the component cables will definitely improve the image by improving color quality and allowing you to run games @ 60 fps.

I don't know, I've had a 360 since launch, and play on a 57" HD set, but I wasn't disappointed with the Wii.  I knew I wasn't expecting 360-level graphics, and I got what I expected.  It's more about managing personal expectations than anything else, I think.

Whenever I see a PS3 or an XBox 360 on display in a store my jaw drops. I think the Wii graphics are functional but hardly stunning on even the best televisions.

I guess I should clarify a bit here what I was trying to say earlier. I think I'm with a lot of folks who posted here in that the visual style of a game is far more important to me than the overall graphical spec's. A Wii running p-scan @ 852x480 is as good as I personally need for graphics if the game's visual style is as good as MP3 or SM Galaxy. I also haven't played a game yet on my 360 that I felt surpassed either of those 2 in visual style.
Having read a number of Ridah's posts I think I have a bit of an idea of what his standards might be, so I wanted to truthfully let him know what to expect from the perspective of someone who's mostly played 360 and PS3 games.
