It sounds like all they did was improve the visuals. It looked very nice on PC, doesn't seem like a need to pay $60 to play the exact same game again.

Agreed, seems most added is MP DLC maps, and i was not the least bit interested in the multiplayer

I am Interested in the Pre-Order Tomb, but i can wait until the game has had a big price drop..no need for this to be a day one buy

all they had at the time was the XB1 box art.  here's a Ps4 box if you want to see it, but they put it behind the XB1 box.

also:

Quote
As for other next-gen additions, The Xbox One allows you to use Kinect to change weapons, attachments, and navigate the menu with your voice. You can also rotate and inspect relics with hand gestures, and find new viewpoints by leaning into the world. The PlayStation 4ís Dualshock 4 controller lights up red and orange when using the torch, and quick flashes when Lara is shooting. The PlayStation 4 version also allows you to stream Tomb Raider to the PlayStation Vita.

It's weird that they're bragging about their use of the light on the dualshock when they would be better off focusing on the much more interesting touch pad.

I like how during VGX they didn't mention the PC version at all. Let's pretend we don't already have a better looking version of the game out there!

$60 for this is kind of offensive. And I liked her old face better.

It looks like the PS4 version is using TressFX which, for  a lot of people, causes a major performance hit. Impressive for the PS4.

Also from the article:

"The difference is actually pretty substantial, with loads of new particle effects and high-res textures making the game look significantly better on PS4. I played the original game on PC, and while I'm guessing that version won't be all that different from next-gen, I'm still seeing some differences here even compared to the PC version"

Traded in a couple games to get this for $8 for PS4 and it's stunning. I played a bit of it on the 360 and this version is miles ahead graphically, and the 60FPS is silky smooth.

Cool effect with the controller LED "flickering" like a flame when you're holding a torch. I was in a dark room and it made it really added to the atmosphere. $60 is too much if you've owned a previous version, but if you can get it via trade or at a discount it's well worth it.

It's amazing how hooked I am with the game again, even having played it not too long ago.

I thought I wasn't going to like the change they made to Lara's face (and there is some adjustment, like you're watching a different actress in the role), but it actually seems more in line with her original look.

I still like the original face better, but screenshots I have seen from people playing the game make the new one look pretty good. For some reason all the official promo shots made it look really bad.

So I double dipped because I spent like $12 on the PC version and want to encourage a sequel.

I have a pretty great rig nearly maxed out at 2560x1440... and subjectively, I am blown away at how good the definitive edition looks. It's perdy.

Question for those who've finished this. I don't usually complete games but getting close on this one! Golly. nod

If I want to Fast Travel around and get all of the goodies, do I need to do that before a certain point? Or once complete, can I wander the island at will?

There is an explicit warning when Lara crosses a point of no return that there are will be no Fast Travel more camps until the end of the game.  Prior to that, you're free to return to previous areas to collect all the goodies you couldn't reach earlier.

Once the game is done, it also allows you load back in to complete any unfinished business.  I picked up all the relics and journal entries, but tapped out before completing all of the "Find X Number of These Hidden Curiosities" challenges.

Is it me or does this game make a huge turn in direction and become a frustratingly difficult 3rd person action shooter towards the end of the game. Maybe I just suck at it but I feel like I'm playing a 3rd person Call of Duty now trying to finish this game up. Waves of enemies over and over, explosions, and lots and lots of deaths. Such a shame because the first 80% of the game was sooooooo good and paced just right.

It's not just you. My "getting close" post lead me to the spot of which you speak. I thought it was great, almost done, holy crap when will these waves of bad guys end, die die die die die die die. Got so painful hearing her death cry over and over I had to step away for awhile and moved on to something else. Still haven't stepped back yet.  icon_cry

Funny enough, I'm right there with you. But I figured I'd go ahead since I managed to get most everything the first time through. But I managed to hit 100% on all the maps, but needed about 1500 salvage to max out the bow and the handgun. I didn't feel like hunting that many damn deer so I kicked it to the curb even though I was at 99% complete. Argh.

Fabulous game overall though, despite the repeated instances of withstanding sieges in a game where exploration is the focus and combat definitely is not.

Two months after setting it aside in frustration, I threw in the disk last night and finished it up in one shot.  icon_eek  Had an 85% completion rate, now to decide on how much 'closure' I need to bring to my unfinished collections.  I'm curious, though - could there still be enemies out there? Wondering about some of the combat trophies I don't have or if it's all about salvage and collection at this point.

I need to push through on my 2nd playthrough before I get distracted by other games.  I'm almost at 90% complete without finishing the story.  It's too bad the MP is such a slog (and near death I have heard) for me to go for the platinum trophy.

I get why they do this (to promote playing MP) but I've resigned myself to never getting near 100% completion or going after platinum trophies instead of playing new games.  After slogging through Uncharted Vita just for one, I asked myself if it was worth the hassle.

When achievements first came around in Xbox games, I think I tried hunting for a few and ended up asking myself that very question. And the answer, for me, was that it was not worth the hassle. I'm not just talking about MP or cross-platform achievements like with Uncharted Vita, I'm talking in general. Since that initial effort, I've never gotten an achievement/trophy outside of playing the game normally.

It might warrant a separate thread, I'm really curious to hear how you all feel about a game that you hunt down achievements in vs. just playing it straight through.

I think it would be polite to start a new thread. It wasn't my intention to derail the conversation into one about trophies. I just wanted to vent about Tomb Raider being one of many, many games to create a platinum trophy with unreasonable requirements that often clash with the game's core intentions. A more general discussion about trophies would get a bit off-topic.

I found that some areas re-spawn enemies, although in fewer numbers.  The main area with the plane crash wreckage had about a dozen enemies spread around.
