complete the stage in 30 seconds!  this looks interesting, with 4 different play modes, each with 30 second stages yet they promise over 20 hours of gameplay.


this game could be utter genius or become the leading cause of hair loss.

IGN gave it an 8.8 in their review.  I tried the RPG demo and it was a lot of fun, but I haven't tried the other demo yet.

I just watched IGN's video review and still have no idea what to make of this.  It's a clever concept, but I have a hard time seeing how it could actually be much fun.

I found it amusing.  It's Dragon Warrior (Quest) rolled up into 30s increments.  I wonder if the different RPG maps are a fixed selection or randomized.  I played the evil guy demo, and wasn't fond of it.  There's also supposed to be an escort the princess mode thats a kind of left 4 dead get-away-from-monsters thing.

I had absolutely no interest in the game. Then I played the demo, and immediately pre-ordered it. Fantastic little premise, and the frantic pace made each level very enjoyable. BTW, you can  briefly extend the levels beyond 30 seconds via monetary sacrifices to the goddess. There is a modest amount of strategy involved on each level, as it is impossible to do all the things you would like to do in the time available. Likewise, certain battles and terrain types slow your character down. Since the timer is always running (except in towns) you need to think and act quickly. Nothing like killing the boss with 1/10 of a second left on the clock.

Sorry to necromance this thread, but I picked this game up over the weekend and it's got its hooks in me pretty deep.  It's really more of a puzzle game with RPG trappings than an actual RPG, but it's one of the most addictive puzzle games I've ever played.  It's pretty funny, too.  I'm really glad I picked it up.  Definitely recommended to anyone who looks back fondly on 8-bit RPG era.

Does anyone know how to unlock the other game modes?  I've finished hero mode, and most of the 'shooter' mode, and the game list still has 4 ? on it for other modes.

The developer of HMH is working on a follow-up.  Instead of 30-second chunks, you'll be able to decide how long you want the game to be.  There's a thread about the game at NeoGAF and a link to some screenshots.

The game is a side scrolling 2D action RPG, which is supposed to be the ultimate game for commuting to work or school. The game allows the player to set a fixed "play time" for each session, and the game generates a full game session for that amount of play time. It generates dungeons, events, boss battles, etc including an ending which can be beaten in that time limit.

The low-grade look of the original was half of it's charm.  They should have just souped that up, somehow (something like 3D Dot Heroes would have been nice).

I got so disgusted I didn't make it down that far.  It's not the idea of changing the graphics, necessarily, so much as those animations look slapped together by some third rate studio.

Half-Minute Hero : Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy is coming to Steam on September 27.  It will include all of the content of both the PSP and XBLA versions.  The Japan-only sequel may also be released on Steam if the first sells well.
