Anyone have any experience with the series this game is part of or perhaps the game itself? It's been out in Japan for a year and is on the PSN now, was thinking it might make a good download for my Vita except perhaps for the difficulty level. Gungir is Episode IV of the Dept. Heaven series which includes Knights in the Nightmare. From the wiki it seems like this might be just as difficult but they'll throw you a bone at times.

Gungnir will feature an optional support mode for players struggling with the system and difficulty level.

Not sure I want to play something they know people will 'struggle' with.   icon_neutral

I'm playing the game right now. This is the first time I've played any game in this series and so far I'm not lost with the storyline at all. Not sure if this is a direct sequel to anything or just set in the same universe. But through about 2 hours of gameplay it really hasn't mattered.

The game itself seems to be pretty good. It really has a FF tactics feel to it, but again I'm early on in the game so I won't draw any conclusions yet.

Bummer, looks like this is not compatible with the Vita yet.  Guess I'll have to wait a while...I don't even know where my PSP is.  frown

Well, that sucks.  disgust

And now that I look closer at the Atlus announcement email I got three days ago, it does say right at the very top that "Gungnir is not currently compatible with PS Vita. We hope it will be in the very near future!"

Spent a couple hours with this on my flight home today.  I consider myself a fairly seasoned veteran on SRPGs, but Gungnir is utterly baffling to me.  Can't decide if I like it or hate it yet, I'm just...confused.   icon_confused

It's all about the timer for each character. Use a good move like an attack and it takes up more time. don't move a character or use him and he will be able to act a lot more often than the character you are using. That's about the only big difference between other SRPGs.

True, but the idea of specific character turns is so ingrained in my head after years of SRPG'ing that it's hard to wrap my brain around a game that ditches that concept entirely.

There's also a lot going on that I haven't fully been able to figure out yet.  Some basic (how do I see what skills/abilities I'm leveling up?) and some pretty complex (the tutorial mentioned something about customizing my "beat" combo attacks, but I don't understand how or why I would do this)...the game throws a lot at you in the first couple hours and it's somewhat overwhelming.  Guess I shouldn't be surprised, it's a Sting game after all.  smile
