I got best buy, 3 gamestops, a target and a walmart near my house.   I need a PS4, and would like to get one with the least possible pain.  For me, shopping sucks.  Fighting crowds during the holiday season sucks.

Any ideas on how to score one next weekend on payday?

It was confirmed that Target has a bunch extra available for release, probably walmart will too.

Gamestop tends to be all about the preorder, so don't expect them to have any.

I'm thinking you will need to be camping at Target for a number of hours.    Find out when they plan to start selling them -- be it first thing in the morning when they open or at midnight.   Camp.

I got an email from Sam's Club saying they were going to have systems for sale.  A place like that might get overlooked by people.  Not sure where you live though, so they might not have a store near you.

Yea, when it was fist announced I took $50 bucks to gamestop to pre order.  They told me I had to lay down 100.

So on payday I went back and they told me no more preorders.  ARGH!!

I guess I will get my check and just hit all the stores and hope I get one.  But I am afraid with so many people going from xbox to the playstation it may be hard to find.  I just want to get it tagged, bagged and ready to go under the tree as fast and painless as possible.

I hate shopping except online.   I guess I posted this hoping someone has a secret or something, heh.  But thanks for the info turtle, I'll check target first.  It is the closest one to my house.

Is it coming out friday the 15th ?  I actually get paid thursday night, I wonder if I should go stand in line somewhere that is having a midnight launch.  I have not done that before for anything, but might be willing.  My luck I would do it and end up not getting it for some reason.

I just got a bad feeling, my 12 year old son said all kids at school who previously were die hard xbox fans are all in for the ps4 this time.

of course you could always park in the parking lot, wait for someone smaller than you to come out with their new purchase, and then strike!

All Best Buy stores will have at least 6 unreserved PS4 systems, according to their weekly ad.

I hear the same from my 15 year old step-son....barely any of his friends had a PS3, in fact I believe we were the only one, but now everyone wants the PS4.

How badly and how quickly do you want one? Do you need one day one? This may well turn out to be like PS3 launch where anticipation may outstrip demand. I remember Wii auctions lasting a long time after launch(mainly supported by the non-gamer interest in Wii sports) but ps3 ones petered off quickly.

No.  I just need it by Christmas.  But after Thanksgiving the women shoppers around here are brutal.  Brutal parking lot drivers and will grab something out of your cart if you turn you head and they need it, heh.
I still have nightmares of trying to get a life size barbie for my daughter about 8 years ago.

Never again.   So you think I may just be able to stroll into gamestop in a couple of weeks and grab one off the shelf?

If I didn't have the 12 year old son I would wait till sometime in January or February.

Actually, if anyone really, really needs one, I'd be willing to sell mine at cost and shipping to another forum goer. But you'd have to be willing to deal with an open box.

Seeing this thread reminds me of being a kid and wanting the newest whatever, and just hoping my parents would come through. They got me an NES when I was 8, it was awesome. I had to buy or split the cost of any gaming after that, but I think its great that you want to do this for your son.

I dunno,i will shop about i suppose comforted by SONY saying that it won't sell out at launch, and also they would release the second batch of stock in the first week of release here in the UK

Xbox is trickier,as not sure what they have said about supply and its 430 smackeroonies(not including any games) which will mean 4 weeks of living on shit to buy one

I'm in the same boat. I want to try it, but I'm not sure it's a keeper for me. I just don't know what will be swung my way in terms of reviews, and so I'd rather be able to open it, take just the power cord and console out, update it and play a few games (I have a second DS4 controller, so I could leave the one it comes in untouched in the box).

It looks like I'm going to have to put Chewie down soon, and that isn't a cheap proposition. :_(

They wouldn't buy me a fucking Atari.  Said kids weren't going to be tying up the TV.

So I had to sit and watch Sanford and Son and Archie Bunker, while my cousins were playing asteroids all night.

I was such a deprived child.   crybaby

I played the Diablo 3 beta on the PS4 machines at Blizzcon and really liked the new PS4 controller...it's slightly bigger than the PS3, nice buttons and much lighter.  I am a little biased though because I grew up on the PS1/PS2 controllers and prefer that style even with large hands.

Esp. with a 9yr old who's grown up with her. She loves him so much, and he has always had a bond with her. Just had a conversation with him on the way home today - helping him figure out how old she is "in dog years" (she'll be 15 in March - I doubt she'll make it but we'll see). Yeah, I know it isn't a 7-for-every-1, but it might make it easier on him to understand how old she truly is.

Yeah, so if someone can't get a PS4 and wants to buy mine, I could be persuaded (though I'd prefer if I could use it for a week or so). Send me a PM.
