Looks like we didn't already have a dedicated thread for this action RPG from Platinum Games.

Anyway, the news today from Platinum is that this is officially not coming out in 2016 and has been moved to 2017.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Quote
As we enter into 2016, we want to provide you with an update on Scalebound, the upcoming Xbox One-exclusive action-RPG that lets you fight alongside a fearsome dragon named Thuban.

Development on the game is going well and weíre really happy with how itís coming together. Scalebound is one of the biggest games PlatinumGames has ever created: an epic adventure filled with exploration and fantasy gameplay, inventive multiplayer, and action-packed battles on an unbelievable scale Ė all set in a beautiful and evolving world. Itís the game our team has always dreamed of making.

In order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations, we will be launching the game in 2017. This will give us the time needed to bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned.

We know youíre excited to see more and thank you for your patience. Scalebound is a truly special project thatís been several years in the making, and we are very proud and inspired by all the work our team has done so far.

We will be sharing more about our vision for Scalebound later this year and canít wait to give you a closer look at the world of Draconis and the incredible creatures and experiences weíre building.

I've been very impressed with Platinum games as a development house, even though many of their titles are commercial failures. Hopefully this title ends up being well reviewed AND a commercial success. Looking forward to this title.

It must have hit some serious development snags to be canned after the last push at E3.  It looked interesting.

I wonder if the semi-failure of other Microsoft-published titles had any effect on this.  Recore was another very promising game that seemed to get shoved out the door too soon and got raked over the coals for having an unfinished second half.  Quantum Break was the remnant of the old "TV first" management and suffered from it.  I wonder if this was similar, with too much past baggage to recover from.

*Secretly hopes another publisher picks it up*
(Oh hey Nintendo, remember what you did with Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U? Maybe do that for the Switch?)

If some of the information coming out now is correct, it looks like Platinum was focused on a strong single player experience, and that was the original scope of the project. MS at various points demanded new items be added- co op, more open world gameplay, etc. It sounds like Platinum had a very specific design in mind, and MS had a bunch of marketing execs adding in the flavors-of-the-day to the project. Sad if true. That coupled with engine issues sank the game.
