I'm surprised leo didn't want to make this thread about his man crush, Nathan Blake.

My guess is it's Drake's long lost brother who was in a prison somewhere!  He's back for vengeance!

I'm drooling at the thought of what might even be possible with the next Uncharted, being that I feel Naughty Dog are one of the best console developers often using the max potential of the console. Next-gen Naughty Dog. *drool*. It's going to be spectacular.

Though that map doesn't sell me on the idea that it would be going back in time, as the Uncharted series has always had old looking maps. Rather, I think maybe what we'll see is Nathan possibly recreating the famous voyage. Maybe there will be some sailing? Or at the very least visiting some of those locations in trying to retrace his steps, which thematically is very Uncharted-like.

Hopefully they can do her right this time. For some bizarre reason they decided to change her looks completely in Uncharted 3, turning her into a Botox-injected asian monster. Every time she appears on the screen in that game, any immersion I had goes straight out the window.

They've got at least two teams working in parallel at Naughty Dog, and you can be pretty sure at this point that they aren't making anything else for the PS3.

I suspect that's just a small team. The majority of the TLoU guys have probably moved on to their next project months ago.

Maybe, but the game director from TLoU regularly tweets about his involvement in the DLC.

Yeah.  Naughty Dog never has appeared unwilling to make sequels so I don't think there is much chance of them not revisiting the world.

Probably in late 2014, or early 2015. But most likely around November 2014 if they show a full trailer at the Spike VGX show.

Past Uncharted games have all had a similar schedule, with a trailer at Spike in about 12 months before its release.

Amy Hennig has left Naugty Dog. She has been the writer (and creative director) on all the previous Uncharted games, including the upcoming one iirc.

It's really too early to tell what happened. It could be something as innocent as her having finished her writing duties for Uncharted 4, and Sony wanting her for a different project with a different developer. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

ya, considering how late into the development it's probably safe to assume she already finished the story, and there's no point on sticking around.  Isn't this the last game of the series?

Nobody has said anything like that, and it would be quite unlikely. It's the latest in the series, not the last.

The rumors I've seen on other sites say that she was forced out.  Seems like a very un-naughty dog thing to happen.  I'm sure the game is pretty far along, but this will still surely have an effect on the end product (could be good or bad) with her leaving, as she was very deeply involved at a high level.

ND released a statement:

Quote
Earlier this week we had to confirm the regrettable news that Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog.  She will be missed and as we stated before we appreciate the significant contributions that she has made to Naughty Dog and the industry in general.  We wish her the best.

However, we feel it necessary to clear up a very important point that was unprofessionally misreported when the story broke.  Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann were NOT involved in what transpired.  It was very upsetting to us that dozens of stories were run, linking back to the same hurtful accusations in the original report.  As co-presidents of Naughty Dog, we are responsible for all studio affairs.

Normally, we wouldn’t respond to rumors and speculation on matters that are internal to Naughty Dog, but because the personal reputation of two of our employees is being damaged we needed to set the record straight.  There is nothing left to be said on this subject.  Now we’re going back to focusing on what we should – making games.

Figured as much.

It may just be that Amy Hennig wanted a change. I mean, she's made a lot of good games there, and she's done plenty of other work. No reason for her to stay if she's feeling a bit of wanderlust.

If you read, he's already gotten a position at Riot Games, which means this is less of a leaving in anger, and more just moving on to do new things now that his contract was expiring and he had another job lined up.

The guy has been at Naughty Dog for many, many years. He was lead on the multiplayer for Uncharted 2, and directed Uncharted 3, the game that many consider a seriously flawed Uncharted game. That's 4-7 years at one studio, and arguably I don't like the way he let the encounter designers run rampant in Uncharted 3, so maybe they'll get a bit more reserved director this time. Meanwhile his style would work better for Riot where the game is more frenetically paced.

At a successful AAA studio like Naughty Dog, there's no shortage of AAA talent that can step up and fill his shoes.

Considering that the latest tech demos for star wars stuff were pretty much copying Uncharted's techniques, Amy Hennig is a great hire.

This really should have been its own thread, but eh...

I don't have high hopes for this transition, to be honest. One of the greatest things about Sony, as a publisher, is that it leaves its developers mostly alone to do their thing, and they don't restrict their creative freedom much, if at all. It's the opposite way with EA. Amy Hennig will find herself opposed at every turn by bureaucrats, and her designs will be heavily diluted by committee. I have absolutely no faith in EA's ability to produce quality products any more, no matter what devs they are using.

Not poached, she was either forced out of ND or quit due to disagreement in direction and found a new home with Visceral.

http://www.polygon.com/2014/4/21/5637838/todd-stashwick-recast-uncharted-ps4

The guy whose voice was in the trailer for Uncharted 4, Todd Stashwick, has been removed from the game.  He was buddy buddy with Amy Hennig and is co-writing the Star Wars game she is now working on.

Also the Art Director at Naughty Dog, who just got there for TLoU from Irrational games has also left.  Strange things going on over there.

From PS BLOG:

Quote
That’s Nathan Drake rendered in full 1080p glory, using the power of our PS4 engine. All footage you see in the trailer was captured completely in engine. We’re targeting 60fps for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and as you can see, the visual fidelity for our character models will reach new heights. In fact, thanks to the power of PS4, right now Drake’s Uncharted 4 model is over double the polygons of Joel from The Last of Us PS3.

The next generation of Nathan Drake is going to be very real and will explore what it means when Drake is forced back into the world of thieves. He will embark on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. It’s his greatest adventure yet and will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is available for pre-order right now. Stay tuned — we’ll have more information in the coming months.

Half-tuck goodness!

Added Synopsis:

Quote
Several years after his last adventure, retired fortune hunter, Nathan Drake, is forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. His greatest adventure will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.

I really can't see Naughty Dog creating a damsel in distress scenario like that. Elena has been repeatedly shown to be Nate's equal, and I don't think they'd want to undermine that. Not these guys.

There will be a twist on it, of course, but naughty dog isn't above starting with a good trope, then deliberately twist it or even directly contradict it before the finale.
