That's the first I'd heard PvP. Seems silly if we're all working towards the common goal. We'll see how they write that up.

No, it doesn't. It shows another group of hostiles - not another Division. This was explained in the back-room walkthrough at E3. Those hostiles are local, and responding to the beacon for pickup that the woman playing calls for extraction. The 90sec timer is for how long it'll take for the extraction team to show up. You can be attacked at any point - you're drawing attention to your location.

So the ones who show up? We were told they're the same as the guys you fight to save the police station.

As the map zooms out at the end, it shows all the other groups of people (red dots) working to fight against the fall of society, and they explained how you could meet up with them and help out.

I'd be more inclined to believe that we can choose to play characters as Division agents, or as anarchists / organized criminals.

It's always possible that there are division agents working at odds with each other. different groups of agents with different agenda's and/or orders.

Watch the E3 trailer again, the guy at the end says "woah woah woah it's another group of players, brace for PvP"

Yep, I totally missed that.

We didn't hear the audio, and in the room he was talking constantly - IIRC they had simply indicated that when an extraction flare went up, it would signal any hostiles (and they were implying AI) in the area.

Took a couple screens (you can simply see this while stepping through the video near the end). Lookls like two factions, rather than just lone-wolf kinda stuff. It also looks to represent the number of players in dot configuration inside the circle.

Rumor: The Division team has spent 18 months on door opening/closing technology.

I don't get pay attention to rumors.  I think The Division is a cornerstone of their holiday lineup, and I doubt it's gonna get delayed, but I guess we'll see....

Since the Infamous thread is starting to veer towards WD and Division I thought I'd post this here and bump this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dORoTIEOyEg

This still looks very impressive here, but...definitely somewhat leery on how real that all is with what's been seemingly going on with Watchdogs.

Was anyone actually expecting this game this year, considering we've heard next to nothing about it since last year's E3?

I had a slim hope that we'd get a November 2014 date announced at E3, but I would not have bet any money on it.

Well, dammit, if someone had told me this was a 3rd person, co-op focused shooter (though seems like team vs. team PVP can be a big part of the game if you want to), then I would've been pumping it, and I wouldn't have confused it with the FPS Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.  icon_razz

Steam says due for release March 2016. Official site indicates a PC beta test is expected to take place in early 2016.

The dreaded Uplay Account is required... paranoid

Uplay has been revamped, if you buy the game in Steam then Uplay will boot minimized and not bug you.

One addition: older versions of uPlay tend to crash when trying to open and check for updates.  Anyone with that issue should completely uninstall the client, download the latest version directly from the website, and reinstall.

I followed those steps about nine months ago when I was reinstalling Anno 2070 and haven't had an issue since.  The recent uPlay clients have been been great in terms of reliability and unobstrusiveness.

My experience with Ubi games on pc is very hit or miss.  Ghost Recon Future Soldier:  ran great  Far Cry 3:  also ran great.  Splinter Cell Blacklist:  crashes on startup, same as AC Rogue.

Thanks all, for the uPlay insights.  icon_smile I think I skipped some games on Steam (Ori and the Blind Forest was one) because of uPlay concerns some Steam user reviews mentioned. Maybe I can look into that again.

While I dig what I see/hear about The Division, I'm confused on the walk through video. It seems to show this co-op team working together, and then it seemed to show some guy on the co-op team abruptly killing his teammates (unless I'm misinterpreting it?). I'm no fan of that. It's part of the reason I quit playing Helldivers on Vita (team killers kept joining games, not rezzing anyone, etc.). If that makes me a wussy, co-op care bear, so be it.  The Weghted Companion Cube will never threaten to stab you.

I'm not a fan of that schtick, even if the best pal I made in Diablo back around 1997 was because someone with Ungodly everything jumped into our co-op game and slaughtered us. I guess it's true sometimes friendships grow out of mutual pvp assassination.  icon_smile

I think Mass Effect 3 co-op is the most 3rd person co-op fun I've had in recent years (Autistic Angel was one of my co-op buds there)  icon_smile. I'm not saying The Division reminds me of ME3 that much, but I'm hoping it might have some similar, albeit not so sci-fi thrills in co-op. And now I finally have a proper system to run it.

I would be playing but for some idiotic reason they decided only physical preorders can play and not digital ones and I have no desire to buy anything physical for xbox.

But I see how it is, you'll play a game like this, but not CoD, Battlefront or even Rainbow Six with us. pfft   crybaby

The alpha ended last Saturday but the beta kicks off early next year. You can get a beta key from pre-ordering and once you get access you can actually invite additional people to the beta... but I also might have some keys to pass out =)

Q: Presumably one would play with friends when going into the "Dark Zone". What possible incentives would there be to screw your friends over and get their loot but possibly risk not being able to play with them ever again?

Q: Will you be providing incentives to not screw your friends over in the "Dark Zone"? If not, why not?

This is precisely my question.  Everything I've heard / seen suggests the everyone-screws-everyone approach for the Dark Zone, turning it from tension to plain old PvP.  Kinda the opposite of what I'm hoping for, so I really want that answer too.

How are they going to avoid the problems that plagued the first year of Destiny?  (a game that many people compare this to)

Will this game be any fun playing as a solo player or in PUGs?  The vast majority of gamers don't have a full group of friends to play with most of the time.
