Seeing as how I live up here, I don't need to get the CE.  already have the beanie as it's required attire and given you upon your coming of age party.  it does look interesting enough though.

but they need me to overthrow the tyrannical Gazpacho!  besides, by the time I get back there may be enough exclusives that I am interested in to justify getting a PS4.  they better hurry though, the number starts at 5 and goes up by one every month the console has been on sale smile

wow that looks kinda boring.  shoot fireballs and swing chain whips.  I've never been big on the infamous series, so it's probably not my thing.

You could kind of say anything's boring from any clip out of context. Not sure what games you like though.

I mean, shooting something and using a melee weapon can describe a heck of a lot of different games at this point. Tongue

personally, I like the look of it and the guerrilla tactics that he's using to get around and .  this isn't overly simple combat ala Prototype, where regular soldiers were fodder and dies in one hit but could barely dent you and the only threats came from the large mutants.

plus, it's only a few minutes showing one encampment in a city with who knows how many powers available when they filmed it.  both of the earlier games had fewer powers than you did in Prototype, but I found the combat more enjoyable.  I expect that you'll get some form of power to throw cars at enemies.  also, this looks like he's going down a relatively Good path, rather than the Evil path I used throughout 1 and 2, and those powers were pretty destructive.

Well, the evil path is still there, there's screenshots of some more destructive versions of his powers, and the red eagle half of the logo on his back becoming larger and more menacing.

Kind of disliking how they're describing the moral choices, but that's Infamous for you. Sucker Punch at least did a good job with the two endings for Infamous 2, so I'm willing to see where it goes.

The "moral choices" sound lifted straight out of the first game. They were one of my main dislikes with that game. Anyone who'd call them "moral choices" with a straight face probably doesn't know what that means, as they were pure comic book stupidity. The choices were between being an angelic saint or a cackling, moustache-twirling Bond villain. I was really hoping this game would be a bit more grown up than that, but it doesn't sound like it.

I really wish they would lose that angle on these games as it's the worst part about them and they don't seem to know how to improve on it.  If not lose it outright, just give me an option at the start to choose a pure good or evil play-through and hide all the choices from me.

Funny thing about this is that comic books have been moving away from super black and white plots, even in superpowered stories, for a long time now.

There is a chance that they're going to play up the more self serving (powers vs non-powered) role compared to generically evil. But we'll see.

And as I keep saying, they did pay off that sort of thing in Infamous 2's finale, so even if they go that route, I'm in for another round.

I've never played an inFAMOUS game before, but from what I read about Second Son's good/bad paths, it seems to have a genuine effect on the narrative, dialogue, and character relationships. Did the first two games not pull this off well?

The first game basically had you being generically evil when choosing that path, but it mostly ending up the same with the same missions. By the end, you just sounded more gravelly voiced and looked like a Sith lord.

The second game gave you special missions that reflected alignment, and also took a small step towards making you less generically evil, and more like a self serving person. Many "evil" missions were still generically evil though. However, the endings between the two paths were drastically different, and very well done. Huge effect on the narrative.

Which is why I'm okay with it for ISS.

Oh, and it's it's still funny that we're all avoiding using the acronym SS due to historical bad guys. slywink

Full video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvN2zn1yM_E

Basically, it seems that if you choose to be a good guy, there's some more precision based gameplay, especially using the Neon powers. Where you can pop into a slow time mode where it highlights weak spots. Headshots for a kill, leg shots to disable and capture.

Also, all of these videos are done with immortality and infinite energy cheats from the devs. So in real infamous gameplay, there'd be more pauses, especially while getting shot by that many, to hide or find draw points to heal and regain.

as long as the paths diverge significantly in the third act, I'll be fine if they let the earlier sequences feel only slightly different.

The problem with the morality system in the infamous games is that you can't make each choice separately. You have to go all bad or all good or you gimp your powers. The best thing they could do would be to make a set of "morally ambiguous" powers you would have access to if you were in between, but would lose access to if you started to go heavily in one direction.

Get used to it. Fridays are the traditional release day in Europe, and with the increase in digital distribution, publishers will be moving towards releasing on the same date across the entire world. With a choice between Tuesday and Friday to release a game, Friday makes more sense with it being the beginning of a weekend.

Ugh, Friday releases are awful. My best gaming time is Mon-Thurs after the kids are in bed. I don't game when the kids are awake and weekend nights are usually spent with the wife.

+1

it's even more lame when you consider the PSN releases are all on Tuesday.  I think this whole 'Day one digital' thing they have going is the cause of it.
