any comments on the damage modeling?  the Forza series has done a pretty good job with making damage to your car matter, but i'm curious how they've done with it the first time in the GT series.  one of the big things that i never really liked was the fact that you could bounce of walls all you wanted without any affect on the performance of your car.  i know that's not the case now, but there's a big difference between simply including damage and actually doing it well...

Another question, how does the graphics stack up to Forza 3?  I'm trying to justify a graphics whoring impulse purchase.

A lot of times the graphics look quite spectacular but there is some issue with anti-aliasing. The worst was a night drive in the rain. There were really ugly looking thick black jagged edges around my car. The tracks and backgrounds look very nice though.

Some guys were playing this at work today and I have to say I wasn't super impressed with the graphics.  They were good, but I think I was expecting more.  And when we did a drift even there were some very evident blocky pixelation issues when the car was passing through tire smoke.

Yeah, I guess it goes all pixelated when the car drives through smoke, mist or fog. It was quite surprising the first time I saw this because the game looks pretty good for the most part. Still, for a game in development this long, it's sloppy to ship it with the graphical issues it has.

EA and Codemasters have both come out and shat on the game calling it 'boring'(CM) and 'sterile'(EA),but then with EA having NFS out now and Codies having released F1 a month or so back, you can see why they would come up with this...who knows whether they have actually played it,LOL

Looks like a bit of network trouble is causing problems playing both single- and multi-player GT5.

I think I have been spoiled by the Forza series. The AI in GT drive like they are a train and the AI seems to be totally oblivious to each other on the road. Would like to try online, but is not working  icon_neutral

Wow... I'm not saying the AI in GT is any sort of good, but the AI in Forza is equally as bad (in different ways).

Little joke about the pixelation.  Now, my question is whether anyone thinks this might be fixable in a patch.  For a game that took so long to make and is known for nice graphics, this seems pretty inexcusable.  I am going to hold off now and see if it gets fixed.

It'll only get 'fixed' if/when they get around to remodeling the standard car to premium car levels.  So if you are holding out for that particular Suzuki to be made into a premium model, I think you may be holding out for a long, long time.

The premium cars look quite good.  I haven't bothered even buying a standard car since there are 200 pretty cars in the game.

Then they should advertise 200 cars in the game. That Suzuki, or anything like that, shouldn't count.

It would be like Madden having correct uniforms and stadiums for the top 5 teams and the rest are whatever they felt like putting the effort into.

Yeah to be honest there's a LOT to nitpick about GT5, but the game itself is really compelling and well done. Most of my nits are in regards to the way the game progresses - the early game has limited damage and crap AI and supposedly ratchets things up as you level.  That's retarded.  That being said, it's fun enough that I'm spending a ton of time with it (when I am not ACBing).  I'm already enjoying it quite a bit more than either Forza this generation, but that may have a lot to do with having a decent wheel for this one.

There's no way I'm buying a wheel for the the PS3.  So can anyone coment on how well GT 5 plays with the gamepad?

Also are most of the races long enough that you don't feel like you have to pass everyone on the 1st lap to earn credits? My biggest gripe with Forza 3 was that the early races were so short and you always started last. So I always felt like I had to bully my way to the front very quickly.

I read somewhere that the maker of the game said that this issue will be addressed in a future patch.  So, you guys let me know when that comes out so I can buy this game, okay?

You know, I went back and reread what was in the Twitter posts and apparently they are just fixing the blocky shadows, not the cars themselves.  I understand they didn't take the time to model completely all the cars, but I don't get why they can't look smooth.  I mean, there are racing games with made-up cars that don't look like that.  It's pretty ugly and you would think a series like GT would have done better, considering how they usually pride themselves on nice graphics.

Is this one better then need for speed?   Both have aproximatley the same metacritic score, and both have equal people who love them or bitch about them.

I was thinking of getting a racing game to try out and I am not sure which is better?

(I would definatley be considered a "casual" racer if that makes a difference)

You mean the new Need For Speed Hot Pursuit?

Yea, that one.  Play the shit out of them and let me know.  I liked the racing parts of Grand theft auto, and thought I would give one a try.  But I cannot decide which to get.

I might like to race online too, if its like a "black ops" racing game heh..

But yea, I want to get one to play around on and see if I can get into it, so would like a reccomendation.

I haven't played either but am quite familiar with both nevertheless. They're completely different types of racing games. GT5 is hyper-realistic and the ideal choice if you're looking for the ultimate simulation. NFS:HP is the best choice if you want a focus on action and high-speed chases with only the occasional nod towards realism. NFS:Shift is a better comparison to GT5.

Yea, I am going to put NFS under the Christmas tree.   If that goes well , I will be grabbing GT5 in the near future.

If they are both good games, I will play them.   I am not sure I like racing games yet.

But yea, my favorite parts of GTA were doing races.  Allot from Brucie..

Thanks for the tips.

remote races is due out in February.   You can control your B-Spec races with basic commands from a PC or mobile device, sounds like an interesting idea.

FTFY  Tongue

The whole point of racing is to actually, you know, drive the damn car!  When you have to program an AI to get you past the boring parts of the game, you need to eliminate those parts of the game!
