http://www.ps3center.net/news/3298/yamauchi-gt5-release-date-will-be-announced-soon/

Quote
Kazunori Yamauchi, the head of Polyphony Digital, blew us all away when he announced that Gran Turismo PSP, after being MIA for years, would release in October this year.  Could he be planning to do the same with Gran Turismo 5?  Regardless of whether the game does come out this year or not, Yamauchi and company intend on revealing the exact launch date of GT5 shortly.  In a recent interview with AutoWeek and reported by GTPlanet, Yamauchi teased "We will give the release date of the Gran Turismo 5 soon".

It seems likely that Sony would pick the Tokyo Game Show as their battleground, where they announced Gran Turismo 5: Prologue's official release date back in 2007.  Tokyo Game Show is set to take place this fall, from September 24 - 27.  So what do you guys think - 2009 or 2010?

Gran Turismo 5 is a simulation racing game developed by Polyphony Digital, exclusively for the PS3.

i think it will still be 2010...especially in UK,not sure about US though, you may see it this side of Chrimbo

Forza 3 is currently set for end of October Release..so yeah i reckon 2010,whether they think GT5 WILL be better or not that it,i can't see them wanting to go up against it

So now we're announcing the date of the announcement of the release date for a game that's been delayed for years? Wow.

its because its been delayed so much that that is why this announcement makes news,i personally think them playing Forza 3 at E3 may of had something to do with them pulling their fingers out,the ball seems to of started to roll again after E3

and i never played GT:Prologue..what was it like?..and will this game be the same but with added car damage?

Maybe someone can explain what people like about this series. I just don't get it. I can live with the lack of damage modeling, but the steering just doesn't feel right to me and hearing the same squealing tire noise on every single turn makes me twitchy. Not trying to put it down, I'd really like to understand what people see in it.

Nothing like announcing the date on which they'll announce the release date. I swear, the game industry just doesn't make much sense anymore.

That said - I'm going with 2011 for the release. The game has been worked on for HOW many years now? I'll give them two more for the US release.

Honestly, I could see them push it out the end of 2009. From my understanding they've been pretty much close to "done" with the title, and even said that it's already good for a launch, were that the case.

But, I'd say 2010 realistically.

I really, really doubt it will be coming out in the US in 2009.  If nothing else because Sony will want to market the hell out of a title like that and waiting until September at the TGS is really late to be doing that.  Japan in 2009 is possible, though.

Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed ...again,it was due for release in March in Japan, with Sony hoping for a release of Summer in the western world(does it really take a few months for it to be 'translated'?..what is there to translate?)

anyway, the new release date is now ....................TBA disgust

okay got some 'better' news(which isn't really better)

according to CVG,the delay is 'only Applicable for Japan'

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=231365
Quote
Sony has told CVG that the reported delay of Gran Turismo 5 is "only applicable for the Japanese market" - the only territory where the game had been given an official date.

"This information on the GT release is only applicable for the Japanese market," a Sony rep told CVG this morning following reports that the flagship racer's planned March release in Japan had been delayed indefinitely.

"SCEE will announce the launch date for this game in the PAL territories in due course," it added.

although,Japan was the only Market which was given a release date...so you could say that the Western market hasn't been effected as it never had a release date anyway icon_confused

Weren't they going to come out with a GT5 Prologue 2? (The fact that they are able to get people to pay for their demos is just hilarious).

Gamestop has had it listed as November for awhile now, I guess that might be more accurate than it looked a couple weeks ago when they were still saying US in the summer.

I just ordered GRID so that will keep me happy for a little bit and I'm sure I'll have no problem finding another racing game to keep me happy until GT5 gets released.  If I end up wanting something more sim than arcade down the road is Forza the way to go?  I've mostly split my console driving games between Gran Turismo and Need For Speed over the years but I refuse to pay $30 for a demo and the last NFS game that really appealed to me was Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 so I'm trying to get a feel for the other franchises now.

Forza is really the same basic idea - lots of cars and tracks and you can fine tune the hell out of any car. It's got realistic damage, which is something older GTs didn't have, but I think the new one does(?)

The only thing I liked from GT that Forza doesn't have (and GT may no longer have this - the last one I played was GT3) is the license tests. Forza does have a really nice career mode, though.

Need for Speed Shift is supposedly the closest you'll get that isn't 360-exclusive at the moment. It's a bit more sim than Grid is, but not much. It's got an awesome dashboard view though. smile

Ah, I didn't realize Forza was 360 only.  That kinda narrows things down a bit, I'll keep an eye for Shift getting some price drops down the road. smile

still only 90% complete at the moment, apparently, what it was in January

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=245126

Quote
"Gran Turismo 5 is about 90 percent finished," Kazunori Yamauchi said in a recent interview, adding the usual line of it not being released until everyone is fully satisfied with it.

What's funny is that he told USA Today the exact same thing back in January. By 'funny', we mean 'effing infuriating'.

Quote
He went on to admit that the game won't quite contain everything he'd hoped for (are we sensing a cop-out on weather?) but wouldn't elaborate on exactly what was left out. He did, however, promise that GT5 would be the 'most significant step forward since the original game', according to Inside Line, thanks to the introduction of online gaming which has "dramatically changed the way the game is designed."

Racing games seem like they'd be one of the easiest genres to do online play for; the number of actions any person can take at a point in time is rigidly limited. I'm either going to accelerate, decelerate, or turn my wheel some limited amount.

I guess at high speeds you could travel 10-20 feet in the time it takes the server to read your change in inputs, but still.  If other racing games can handle it then what makes Gran Turismo so tricksy?

yup,still due for November 2nd

however the game is still not complete right now

http://kotaku.com/5607888/so-gran-turismo-5-isnt-done-yet

Quote
The game is not done. "GT5 is getting to where it will be finished shortly," Gran Turismo designer Kazunori Yamauchi tweeted earlier today. Yamauchi seemed upbeat and noted that the development of GT games is always like this — that it's like they are nowhere near finished.

But Yamauchi and his team have released GT games in the past, so do not fret!

It is not uncommon for studios to work on games right up until the titles are out the door. It's just that Polyphony Digital has been working on GT5 for such a long time.

i mean they still have just under 3 months, but i guess in those 3 months the game has to be completed for one thing and go gold etc etc...i wouldn't be surprised if it slips again

seems to get the best out of Gran Turismo 5,it requires a 10gb install

this is not a mandatory install however, that's just 256mb

at least it hasn't(as of yet) been delayed because of that Italian/flag/track thing

http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/08/28/gt5_hard_drive_install/

Quote
To run the game, you'll need just 256 megabytes of space (which one wouldn't really call an "install"). However, for a smooth play experience, Yamauchi recommends 10 gigabytes.

From what I've seen thus far, I'm very much looking forward to this one.  The addition of Karting pushes it over the top for me.  There's also a rumor that Spa-Francorchamps may be in the game, which would be stunningly amazing if the case.

In any case, it's preordered and I'm contemplating buying one of those collapsible wheel mount thingies for my living room.

Spa-Francorchamps has just been the race today for F1(Lewis Hamilton won..yay)...and it was a crazy race, weather was on and off pissing it down, and a lot of crashes...its also the longest track i think of the F1 season

that would be cool if its in the game
