Sony's Super Smash Brothers

Quote
Now it’s Sony’s turn. The company has officially announced PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, a PS3 exclusive that brings the Super Smash Bros. formula to the Sony universe. At a Los Angeles media event earlier this week, developer SuperBot Entertainment gave the press its first look at PlayStation All-Stars. Our snap judgment: The game’s a blast, though your mileage will obviously vary depending on your passion for side-scrolling brawlers.

On display this week were six characters: Kratos (God of War), Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal), Sly Cooper, Mael Radec (Killzone 2), Fat Princess, and, yes, PaRappa the Rapper. The controls are simple: X is jump, while square, triangle, and circle perform various attacks when used in conjunction with the directional pad or analog stick. Key to winning is one’s Super Meter, which fills up during the course of the match and unlocks three levels of special attacks. The Level 3 attacks are the most deadly — and entertaining. Take PaRappa, for instance, whose Level 3 move is an impromptu performance of his “I Gotta Believe” song, which instantly kills all the other players. Or Fat Princess, who can pulverize her opponents by riding around on a giant chicken.

I wonder if Nathan Drake and Cole will finally duke it out......

As I would've titled it had I caught it earlier:

Super Smash Brothers, Sony Playstation Edition!

I mean, seriously - EVERY little aspect of SSB is utterly and totally ripped off in that video. There's clone, and then there's 'good lord that's a clone!'.

That's kind of the point.  Have you not played Super Smash Bros?

put this in the 'LOL' column: Sony removed some tags from their Youtube posting of the E3 video.

The cross platform play sounds like fun.

I hope Sony continue to add cross platform support for PS3/Vita as it ensures you'll always have people to play against online, in particular for the Vita.. (I've bought a countless number of PSP games that have no online communities left. Haven't taken the plunge on the Vita yet)

This looked very entertaining.

I'd be in to the cross platform stuff if it didn't mean I'd have to buy the same game twice.

If they work out a massive discount (add the Vita version for $10 or less, say) I'd do it.  Or if they add significant differences between the two, but that would take away from the continuing your game from either system thing.

this is going to be another 'cross buy' title, but it for the PS3 and you automatically own a Vita copy.  some more characters have been announced too:

Devil May Cry's Dante
Sackboy
Ratchet and Clank
Ape Escape's Spike

I find it hilarious that in gameplay footage featuring a space nazi, demonic evil clown and a GOD that a Disney style fat princess was dominating the match up.   icon_biggrin

Evil Cole McGrath has joined the line-up, so now we can finally have that epic fight between goody two-shoes Cole and bad Cole.
