Who says I post nothing but negative Sony news?

(via Dubious Quality - as there's just not much to quote over at the first link - but there are detailed instructions there):

Quote
From PS3mods (thanks Destructoid.com), here's the deal: go to Sony Style and put a $499 60GB PS3 into your shopping cart. When you go to check out, apply for a Sony Style credit card (0% interest for the first twelve months, and you'll have cancelled the card long before then). That card comes with a $150 rebate on your first purchase of $299 or more.

In other words, $500 + $15 shipping, minus the $150 rebate. The $150 credit on your statement takes 8-12 weeks to process, but since you're paying 0% interest initially, you're still golden.

Makes the console actually worth purchasing, IMHO.

EDIT: NOTE - if you intend to do this, the link the first site provides to purchase a PS3 from IS a sales link/referrer link. In other words, somebody will be getting money for your purchase. this link SHOULD be a referrer free link.

wow, if they had done this ealier in the summer I'd be all over it but with all the upcoming games and other activities associated with fall/football/wedding/holiday season I'm already going to be spending too much money.

then again, maybe I don't have to spend as much on wedding presents....

I was under the impression that it screwed up your credit (at least in the short term) to sign up and immediately cancel credit cards.  No?

Not unless you do it multiple times.  Just once should not affect you adversely.

You wouldn't necessarily have to cancel it right away, just make sure you pay off the balance before the 12 months is up and then shove it in your safe box or whatever until you feel like cancelling it (and watch out for annual fees, of course).

Yeah and to an extent, there isn't really anything wrong with having an open line of credit.  When I last ran my score, I actually got dinged because I didn't have a large enough credit history with enough major banking institutions.  I found that odd, as I have a ton of credit cards... owellz.

Your FICO may drop a few points because your oldest account will go from whatever it is now to zero.  Part of your rating has to do with how long it's been since you opened your last line of credit.  It should be a very minor effect though, as long as you're not doing it constantly or already have a credit line way out of proportion to your income.

It took me an extra day but I couldn't resist -- was approved for the card yesterday and ordered up.  I knew I'd break down at some point in the next couple months anyhow, so it helped out a lot - thanks for sharing it!

Unless you can somehow sign up for another one, I'm guessing no.

How long does it take for them to approve you? I was planning on getting a PS3 in the next few months and this just pushed me over the edge.

The approval was pretty much instantaneous for me.

The shipping time hurts just a little bit.  Mine did not ship until the day after I ordered it, FedEx ground, and it's estimated for the 16th.  Obviously I'm okay waiting versus spending another $40 for faster shipping, but I want my new toy now!

Opening a credit card of any type lowers your FICO score initially. Credit cards are considered financial risk.
Your ability to pay on time and having little or no balance over time will help your score however.

there's no details page to check where, so you'll have to run through the transaction and check.

Well, I caved in and bought a PS3 on this deal.  I already have a Xbox 360 and a PS2, and I told myself over and over that I didn't need a PS3.   But since I have the willpower of Lindsey Lohan at an open bar, I gave in and jumped on this.   It shipped and will be here this week.  I figure I'll rent Motostorm first and then see what else shakes out.  Good times!!!

I'm tempted to try to get a PSP using this, but I'd have to spend $100 over the cost of the PSP to get... $150 off.

It's a great deal and its not going to do a damn thing, at least practically, to your credit. There is nothing wrong with having open cards if there is no debt on them.

I got mine last week via this deal.  Its a fun system.  Rented a few games, downloaded a few demos, and am completly addicted to MLB 07.  I now have all three consoles, because yes im a gaming geek smile  This was a great deal though.  Couldn't pass it up.

You could do your "Dance of the Seven Veils" for them. You know, the one you use to do when you worked for Chip n Dale... nod
