sweet.  nice write up again Ron.  i'll let it all sink in and then ask some questions later.

i wonder how much of the world will be altered by your actions, these so named "dynamic areas".  worth a second play through i would bet.  any word on how large the world is?  how open it was when you were running around?  any glitches in the graphics at this point?  were there dynamic environmental sounds?  background music?  how alive did the world feel; animals, realistic lighting and shadows, character animation?

it's going to be good.  another game to squeeze into the fall 08 madness with mercs and fallout.

Ron,

You are incredibly lucky to have played this already...and you're also making it harder for me to wait till Oct.  That said, one button combat didn't bother you at all?  Granted, Fable I's combat wasn't exactly complex, but your description makes me wonder if it isn't too simple.  Comments?

It bothered me last year until Molyneux handed me the controller.  I try really really hard not to be a fanboy but that moment was burned in for me.  He says (and I know he says a lot of things) that they really started their combat with this one button business and built off of it rather than building a combat system and then trying to distill it to one button.

When you really think about it, it really isn't one button as much as three.  Ranged, magic, and sword.  Switching between sword and ranged took a second as you have to pull your gun, and magic to sword took a little time for the same reason.  It felt pretty solid at this point.

As for being lucky to play stuff....eh...sometimes it sucks for the same reason.

In day 0. Peter has managed to keep his mouth shut until the features are actually working in the game. So it seems like it should deliver. The fact that this is much less off rails is great news as well.

Maybe I'm remembering a different game(there's only a billion in the next few months), but doesn't fable 2 have a combo system for combat too? I seem to remember that if you press a button when it pops up you can chain together attacks. Oh, looking back in the preview that's in there. well there ya go.

nice preview....gettin' me excited...and yup,i like Animals as well so i would be beating up on that dog bully, and then i will beat him some more...what the heck,i may even waste a few hours beating up on him

LOL,Bowerstone..thats where i am now!!!....but in the original game. Its a pretty small town in the original, not included the castle area(and it has docks as well)so it will be interesting to see how its grown if the game is set 500 years later..wonder if i can still get a haircut from that saucy lady

so,will Fable III be set another 500 years in the future?,when Bowerstone/Albion is nothing but a multistory car park and shopping mall??....and maybe you will have a pet Aibo for a companion,LOL

I'm thinking about grabbing it for the PC since the 360 BC for it seems to be unstable.

I downloaded Fable through XBL Marketplace, and it's a complete mess.  Graphic corruption, massive slowdown, sound glitches, etc., etc.   It's also just the vanilla game, and doesn't include any of the Lost Chapters stuff.  I have heard that the actual disc version fares a bit better, but ymmv.

I really wish I'd picked up the PC version instead. frown

I've got the disc version of Fable (no Lost Chapters) and other than the occasional framerate drop in the larger areas, it works fine.

I got the Lost Chapters version and when I fired it up on the 360 it would occasionally crash, usually at the worst possible moment like when I was just about done escorting those traders to the camp in the swamp.  Here's hoping F2 has a better AI for when you have to escort people.

Yup, Fable I disc was fine, no glitches at all that I remember (uh-0h!)

Update on my former post:

Definite, launch day, Without a Doubt:
Fable 2

Maybe after price drop:

Too Human
Left 4 Dead

Not Likely, but Faintly Possible:
PS3 console, if I see an exclusive game I can't live without. Also if there is a price drop on the console... not holding my breath, though, on that one.  Roll Eyes

edit to add:

Geeze, I even get lost in the Forums - this was supposed to be on the "Re: 5 months left!  what are you buying?" post, lol.   disgust Oh, well...

any word if they plan on doing DLC for it?  that's the one edge this one could have over the original.   Of course I got a ton of playtime out of the first Fable since I made sure I did everything and had my skills maxxed out before the final battle.

I'm pretty sure they will, i didnt see molyneux at leipzig but when i visited LH a year ago he said they would use the xboxlive alot... It would be silly to do otherwise when you got something like that. smile

Atleast the halo addicst will get their fix. :p

I'm also curious to this statement.  What I've heard is you can get through the main quest in 12 hours if you rush it, but there's supposed to be a lot of side missions & exploration to do.

Quote
Fable 2 ends up about 12 hours long. That's how long it takes a tester at Lionhead to go from one end of the game to the other. That's a reasonable time, but if you play the game in 12 hours you haven't done anything off the golden line that you saw. That means you'll end this game a poor, lonely, unpopular hero, famous hero. Whereas if you spend a bit more time, a few more hours, you'll be a bit richer, your clothes will be a bit finer, you'll finish the game looking better. You can spend a lot of time working on owning parts of the world, and that's when it suddenly dawns on people that when you finish the story, the game doesn't end, it just carries on going. You've finished the story and you've lost a lot of opportunities of making money in that story, so... the answer to this almost unsolvable problem was that I'll let you decide. You decide how long the game is because you decide what you want to be in the world. If you want to be poor, if you want to be unpopular, if you don't ever want to get married, then sure enough this game will last 12 hours. But if you want the full experience, it's going to be much much longer than that.

argh, 12 hours?  i'm finally playing fable on my 360 and i was truly disappointed to see that I was more than halfway through the game at the 7 hour mark when I checked out my progress against the faq on gamefaqs.com.   icon_frown

p.s. for the first 6 hours or so, fable on the 360 was stable as could be (albeit with the ocassional issues with sound that some mentioned previously).  however, about an hour into the arena fight quest, the dang thing crashed on me.   icon_mad

Yeah, that's 12 hours with a Lionhead tester playing it rushing through.  You could supposedly get through the original Fable in 5 hours, but you'd miss so much if you did it that way.  And I think Lionhead made the conscious decision to put even more non-plot quest stuff in Fable 2.

You're also able to choose between protected and unprotected sex when you get busy with your partner(s), the latter leading to pregnancy and children. You'll be the most important influence in the lives of your children, so if you're an evil bastard, your child will likely be a bully. If you don't treat your wife well, she can fool around behind your back and will eventually ask for a divorce - taking half your worldly possessions with her. And if your wife dies, your children will be shipped off to the orphanage. It's a cruel world.

And in a very interesting twist, if you choose to be a female adventurer you'll have to carry and bear any children you have, leaving your husband to tend the homestead.

I've thought about it - For anyone curious, here is what all is in it:

able 2 Limited Edition includes:

    * Bonus DVD – Includes new ‘Making-of Feature’ with Peter Molyneux and the team at Lionhead Studios and concept art viewer
    * Bonus In-Game Content (Requires LIVE account) – Includes “The Hall of the Dead” Dungeon, “The Wreckager” Legendary Cutlass Weapon and Otherworldly Bonus
    * Collectible Hobbe figure with accessories – From the Qee Collection comes this one-of-a-kind Hobbe figure. Nasty, brutish, and short, he roams the countryside, preying on travelers and spiriting away the children of the unwary.
    * 48-hour Xbox LIVE Gold Trial Card – With Xbox LIVE Gold, players can show off their individual hero by inviting friends into their unique version of Albion or they can visit their friends’ Albion, and earn additional gold, experience and renown to take back into their own.
    * Five printed Fate Cards – These five beautiful cards foretell the Hero’s great destiny to journey across all of Albion, encountering deadly enemies and enigmatic allies. The path leads to a choice that will change the world forever.

I'm getting the Collectors edition.  When I read there would be a whole Dungeon to explore (no matter the size) and the Halo armor...I really felt that the extra exploration content would be worth the package.  The rest of it is *really* nice and I'm not complaining, but it is the content that convinced me.

Agreed - I just pre-ordered the regular version today.  I had to force myself to do that, and I hope I don't regret missing out on the one thing I would've been interested in - the Bonus In-Game Content.

Oh, well, at least I made a major protest against the +$20 price... boy, will MS and Lionhead be sorry!   Roll Eyes

Yeah, I wanted to get the CE for that bonus in-game content, but my hope is that the dungeon at least will make it's way to DLC at some point.  I can't justify $20 extra just for a dungeon and some armor right now, and I will probably be able to see the Making Of stuff on the internet.

yeah, I want to play the female character so I can have her run around preggo in a chainmail bikini while wailing on monsters.

As for the CE, the price difference didn't even register when I paid for it.  The original is one of two X-Box games I still own (the second being Crimson Skies) and I figure chances are pretty good the second one will be sitting on my game shelf for just as long, so why not have it in a  nice case?

Right now, for whatever reason, the Limited Edition of Fable 2 is going for $66.99 on Amazon. Don't know how long that'll last, but it was too good a deal for me to pass.

Release day shipping brings it to 73 bucks.  tempting, but I'd have to have it delivered to work and then it'd be sitting there all day, saying 'play me CeeKay' and there's no way I can get time off that week.  I'll pay the extra to avoid that torture  crybaby

I finally unlocked all 15 items in the Fable II Pub Games XLBA game.

I will never, ever, play spinnerbox again.  I figured out how to cheese both Keystone (enter the tournament and bet max on all the triples...if you're out of money you just lose the tourney entry fee; if you hit the triple, you win the game basically) and Fortune's Tower...but spinnerbox is awful.

why couldn't they have a proper gambling game like poker or blackjack?  even the original (which I'm replaying right now on the PC) had blackjack.

Thanks for the head's up Fellow, I jumped on this at $66 and for me, Amazon said:

"FREE Release-Date Delivery  --get it Tuesday, October 21!"

I wonder if that's because I'm a member of Amazon Prime? Either way, $66 shipped for the CE and get it on release day, woot!

Btw, everyone, if you're interested in this game or on the fence about it, read this:
