I'm almost positive I had the original on the NES, but I've never really understood the universal love it gets.  I seem to remember being ambivalent towards it.

The NES game was very different from the arcade version.  Could you even wall climb in the NES version?  The arcade game was kind of amazing for its time.

It would be nice to get a remade version of Run Saber as well.

anyone get this yet?  after seeing that it's a metroid-vania style game, I am close to pulling the trigger on it.

Yep got it and it seems more Metroid than old school Strider I agree.

played through the first boss.    It looks like it will be a decent action platformer with some great visuals.   Controls are responsive and I think one I get attuned to the pacing, it'll look awesome.   Only negative at this point is the camera is  zoomed in a bit closer than you need to anticipate enemy attacks.

Remember that the NES version of Strider was not like the arcade game.  I think this one is more like that than the arcade.

I had a Genesis, so that's the version I am thinking of.  Was that the same as the arcade or the NES version?

I wasn't real sure about this at first play, but now that I've put in a couple of hours and gotten some upgrades I really am liking it.

I should clarify my earlier statement by saying that this is more of an action/adventure game like the NES Strider, but the events of the game and the story and such are centered around the arcade/Genesis version.

You do gain the ability to go back to other areas, right?  There were spots that I couldn't get to in that first area.

Yes, it's Metroidvania in that respect.

I think I kind of agree with Gerstmann on this one.  I like it, and it's fun but I can't help but feel there's a better game trying to break out of it.
