from the Dead Island guys comes more open world zombie fun.
looks like another warm and sunny locale though; maybe they'll switch it up next time and go with some fun in the snow.

From what I read, it's supposed to be more of a parkour running style game like Mirror's Edge than Dead Island, though it does still have combat.

damn, that looks better than I expected.  the FOV feels a bit claustrophobic, hopefully you can adjust that, or if not people will figure out a way to do so on the PC.

Yeah, that looks great. Clearly that's where they put their efforts.

It also looks more serious from the start this time, while still having the crazy weapon element. Part of the turn off of Dead Island was that it was clear they were trying to make a Dead Rising style silly game with nonsensical plot, then saw the reaction to the more emotional trailer, and couldn't decide between the two and ended up with less for it.

Also, I'm hoping they don't make things too level reliant. A huge problem with Dead Island was that the level system could prevent people from playing together in co-op, and it also let to annoying fights.

Even after Riptide, I'm willing to give these guys a shot. Dead Island overall was just plain fun.

Don't forget Techland made Gunslinger, which was fantastic.  They are a very erratic studio.

oh yeah, that's right, they did all the Call of Juarez games.  I think The Cartel was the only stumble they had in that series.

I think they're a studio a bit like Rebellion, but better.

They're a go to place when you need something done with a decent level of technical execution, but they also have real skill when they finally have the time and money to push towards AAA level development. They also have terrible writers, but probably because they haven't had the time or money for a decent one, also being somewhere in Eastern Europe might be isolating.

Horrific stuff like the Cartel, and the weird ambivalence of Dead Island is what comes from that.

Why would being in Eastern Europe mean they are isolated from decent writers?

looking forward to this one.  lower zed count per zone than in DR3, but each one is much more of a threat.  the parkour looks awesome as well.

I'm not convinced.

We just put this up on the front page.

Some of it looks great, but the person playing it also knows : a) where the cool shit is at. b) where to go to bring a cinematic feel.

I'm not crazy about how much you see your feet. The character also feels very short. If it's intended, fine.

The parkour is the selling point for me, without it I'd be passing until it was dirt cheap.

yeah, it basically combines two of my recently favorite games, Dead Island and Mirror's Edge.  toss in the environmental traps from Ravenholm and the day/night changes to the gameplay and you have a great sounding game.

The parkour seems simplistic, not much skill involved besides finding the places to climb and jump. They haven't shown any advanced moves like in mirror's edge. Then again ME could be played most of the time without tricky jumps, and it would be difficult to do them with zombies attacking.

yeah.  I saw that on Kotaku and got all excited when it opened up an almost 13 minute video.  then I realized I'd clicked on the one from last year instead.  Still, this one is a good reminder that the game is coming soon, even if it's not got a specific date yet.

Both Newegg and Amazon are offering a $10 credit if you pre-order (Newegg only gives 10 for next-gen though)

while I haven't yet seen a release date beyond 'Q2 2014', Dying Light is now expected February 2015

They expect to have more details of this at E3, so at least we'll get new videos to watch
