I remember when they were passing this out free to those attending E3 two years back. Boy, that brings back some memories.

Yeah, that I do. I think I still have that photo lying around somewhere.

In all honesty though, this was a good game if you liked the traditional MMO formula. The best part though (IMHO) was the instanced dungeons. It allowed you and your team to get away from the crowds and the kill-stealing, tucking you away from the rest of the world in a dungeon all of your own.

Since then, most MMOs have them. Go figure.

AO was a fun game while it lasted.  Shadowlands, the expansion to AO, was a pretty cool place, even from just a visual standpoint.  The whole thing was like a bad acid trip... I loved it.

Funcom had free trials awhile ago... it's not that they're desperate, it's that the latest expansion to AO, Alien Invasion, was just released--and what better way to advertise your new, $30 expansion than by giving away the original game?

Honestly, if you want to try out an MMO cheap, give it a shot (it was my first MMO). But after playing City of Heroes, they'd have to pay me to go back to Rubi-Ka.
