Yeah, now they need to give the pricings of each of these options.  I'm thinking the Steam Silver or the Collector's Edition box.  I can't believe Half-Life 1 Source is not included in the standard box.  Day of Defeat Source is obviously the big catch (along with being able to play CS next week) in the Steam offerings.

Eh. I'm still just waiting on the game, myself. smile

What I find amusing though is that Valve put Half-Life into the Source engine and still managed to get the sequel out with about a bazillion improvements in less time than it's taken DNF to get close to the door. biggrin

At one point I was thinking that I would go ahead with a steam purchase if I could get it earlier. But after all this waiting, I think I will wait a little longer and get one of the retail boxes.

Well, one price is out there.  The Collector's Edition is at $79.99 at EB...little to rich for my blood.

As for Steam, Valve can't release the game until it is out in retail stores (or so the story goes).  I'm not sure how they can release Counter-Strike unless that isn't included under the VU/Sierra deal.

Well, CS was never created by Valve so by default it's not their intellectual property. If they bought it outright then it still shouldn't fall under the contract as it's owned by Valve and not VUG by proxy. Then I'd imagine Valve can release any variant of CS they want at any time and VUG can't do anything about it. It'd be the same if they release Day of Defeat: Source.

Just to add to the announcement: ATI owners who got the shaft with the HL2 voucher last year get a copy of the Bronze edition via Steam.

What exactly is "Valve's back catalog currently available on Steam"?

I'd like the "silver" package, but I honestly don't know if I am down for another run-through of the game.  I look forward to seeing the reviews for it to make that decision.  Never played CS or DoD, so that's not a big deal to me.  Still, I know the fans will be ecstatic.  I wish there was a standard edition (with Gman cover, of course!) on DVD.  I'm sure as hell not dropping $80 on it.

I would like to see the two addon's done in Source as well, but I am a completist Tongue

Hey, I just got a ATI card that had the voucher in it.  Is it still good?  No loss if not, as I didn't expect it, but if it is valid then I wouldn't be upset, either!

I'm a bit bummed out about that too, Devil. I'd really fancy the DVD version, but damn... $80? That's stretching it, even for HL2(+extras).

Yea, folks with the ATI vouchers get the Bronze edition.  They are planning on allowing you to 'upgrade' from there, but no details on that yet.

I am definately lost on this whole thing.

If I go into my local Gamestop in a month (or whenever), and I want to pick up a copy of Half-Life 2, normal, generic, everyday edition...

1) Will I be able to do this without ever d'loading anything regarding this STEAM thing?

2) How much will it cost me?

I know those are basic, simple questions, but this whole STEAM thing, mixed with CS, mixed with numerous editions just confuses me.

Thanks.

If you go into the store and get the 'normal everyday generic' edition you'll get  HL2 (the full thing, on 6 cds) and Counter-Strike: Source (also in the box).

Yeah, but there's no Half-Life 1: Source in that edition.
