I have sworn off JRPGs as I always run out of steam and never can finish them anymore. So, I have no interest in this. But, it certainly does look beautiful.

I can't wait.

I just hope there is a solid story and good combat mechanics.  They certainly have nailed the graphics but that won't satisfy me for hours of gaming.

Ni No Kuni was probably the best looking game I have played in years but the mechanics were so terrible I quit.

Just when I thought I never needed a Wii U...

Wow that looks fantastic, but boy those 3 sure do a lot of running.  I felt tired for them just watching.

Isn't there another Wii U exclusive that was supposed to be really good?  Was it Bayonetta 2?

Yep, also, Wonderful 101 from the same developer.  ZombiU is another exclusive that is worth a look.  It’s FPS Dark Souls with zombies and a really good use of the WiiPad.

And don’t forget all the first party Nintendo properties...

Did you know that if you buy Bayonetta 2 it comes with Bayonetta 1?  So there are two games right there.  I actually just bought WiiU and Bayonetta 2.  Will keep an eye on this game as well.

I bought the Wii U in anticipation of Bayonetta 2. There ARE other great games for it, and aside from Xenoblade Chronicles X, the open world Zelda game is coming too.

In other words, resistance if futile. slywink

If you like fun, the Wii U has a great library.  Here are a few classics that I've played since I bought mine a little over a year ago:
Super Mario 3D World
Mario Kart 8
Pikmin 3
Bayonetta 2 (and 1)
Wind Waker (first LoZ game I've ever completed)
Rayman Legends (Wii U version is actually the best version)
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze

And for 2015 I'm looking forward to:
Splatoon
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Zelda

Lego City Undercover. is worth half the price of the machine.  Throw in the others that Roguetad listed and it is a very good gaming machine.  There are times I don't play it for a few weeks at a time but it is a machine I can always come back to.

That's my biggest hesitation on the WiiU.  First party Nintendo titles (namely anything with Zelda or Mario in the name) don't interest me at all, and the pickings start to get really slim once those are removed.  I'm sure I'll probably take the plunge eventually, but there's certainly no hurry.  Hell, I've ended up with both a Gamecube and a Wii along the line, so this one probably won't be any different.  I'm happy to wait until Xenoblade hits.

Does the Wii have any sort of backwards compatibility with Wii games?  I actually wouldn't mind giving the original Xenoblade another look, and I never did give Last Story a fair shake.

EDIT:  Scratch that.  Looks like the original Xenoblade is nearly impossible to find anymore outside of E-bay (at around $75).  I'll just wait.  smile

Yes, complete backwards compatibility from what I recall.

For the record: yes, the Wii U is 100% backwards compatible with the original Wii, including all of the controllers and peripherals.

And if you think about it, at some point you're going to need a Wii U for the gratchlings to play anyway.  They're going to love games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Party, and Splatoon!

Now that Nintendo is releasing Wii games for download on the WiiU, I'd be very surprised if they don't make Xenoblade available.

The portable remake of Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the flagship releases for the New 3DS, taking advantage of the increased processor speed and extra analog input.  It would be surprising if Nintendo undercut their release by making the original available digitally.

Of course, it's surprising that Nintendo didn't integrate Dolphin-like upscaling and anti-aliasing for Wii games running on the Wii U, or produce enough Amiibos to profit from all the demand.  So who knows how they make their decisions?

A video showing a lot of the game world and some of the mechanics of the game (I assume since it is in Japanese so I don't really know)

It does underscore that I just don't understand what is in Japanese and what is in English is Japanese games.  Obviously this is meant for a Japanese audience, it is in Japanese and the majority of writing is in Japanese but some words are in English - why?  At around 8:57 there is the phrase "Field Action Succeeded."  It is obviously in game and there is Japanese writing on the left side....so why is that phrase in English?  I find it very confusing.

I don't care if reviews give this game straight zeros across the board.  I will buy it just for the eye candy.  Absolutely stunning.

I want to play this game, but I'm not really sold on buying a new 3ds to play it, especially since there are unlikely to be a lot of New 3ds exclusives. If I have to shell out $60 for it to play on wii u it's still probably going to be the better way to go, especially for the graphics.

I believe the 3DS game is technically just a port of the original Wii game.  So you could play it on that if you really wanted…

That's what I'm saying, I'll buy a copy of the Wii version. Unfortunately, getting that for less than even $80 is tough these days.

Just so we are all clear

This thread is about the new Wii U game Xenoblad Chroicles X which is very different than the original Wii game which is being released on the 3DS Circle (I mention because it will only run on the new 3Ds with the right nub/circle thingy.. I really wish they would call these models something besides "new" Nintendo 3ds.  That doesn't tell me squat about what it has on it)

Now on the subject of Xenoblade Chronicles I have posted a link to a video comparison of the Wii version vs. the "new" 3ds version over here  In short it looks very good on the 3ds but better on the Wii (by a small bit) so play it on the Wii if you have it.

I would imagine the market will cool for the Wii version once the 3ds version is out so it might even be reasonably priced!

This trailer has a bit of footage I haven't seen.

End of the month for Japan!  I hope the reviews are good and that the English release is this year.

And another one

This one is a bit to Japanese for me - the singing I have never liked in anime video game trailers or anime video for that matter.  And it really doesn't show any gameplay but at least it hints there may be a story.

Nintendo Direct for Xenoblade Chronicles X coming April 24

Quote
Xenoblade Chronicles X, the upcoming open-world role-playing game from Monolith Soft, will be the focus of a Nintendo Direct presentation tomorrow, April 24, Nintendo announced today.

The presentation will kick off with a "video showcase" of Xenoblade Chronicles X, according to Nintendo, followed by a live gameplay demo from the Nintendo Treehouse. Nintendo noted that it will present tomorrow's Nintendo Direct in English only, which makes sense, since Xenoblade Chronicles X launches next week in Japan. The Nintendo Direct will begin tomorrow at 11 a.m. PT.
