In your review, can you indicate whether the new game is easier or harder than the prior two games? I'm getting too old and impatient for games with outrageously difficult levels.

Considering the trend lately where games are getting watered down in difficulty, I wouldn't be surprised if it was easier. This will be my first God of War game, can't wait!!

I have to say, I don't get the excitement over this game. I played, and thoroughly enjoyed GoW1, enjoyed GoW2 but felt it was kinda stale, paid no attention to the PSP release, and was completely underwhelmed by the demo GoW3. It's the exact same game as GoW1, with prettier graphics and more head ripping (which was a little disturbing). As far as I can tell there have been zero gameplay improvements since GoW1 came out so I just don't understand why there's all the excitement.

I was in Blockbuster tonight, and somebody was playing the demo for this on their PS3 kiosk. At 7pm. With kids in the store. This is one of the most graphically violent games I've ever seen to the point that I was a bit surprised at it. Yet there it was being played in the store. Couldn't believe it.
I'm getting it, but I'm not especially anxious to play it. I mostly want the awesome CE stuff. There have been a whole bunch of really good games in this genre lately *cough*Bayonetta*cough* that I'm not sure GoW3 is going to hold up.

I wouldn't count GoW in the same genre as Bayonetta. Yes, they are both action games, but God of War is to Dante's Inferno as Bayonetta is to Devil May Cry.

Really? Third person combo-based brawlers with an emphasis on giant setpieces and an upgrade system? They seem pretty damn close to me. The difference is that Bayonetta allows you a ton of finesse, while GoW is more of a brute force button masher.

If you don't get what makes the GOW franchise so incredible and one of the best ever (personally, my favorite platform spanning series of all time), then maybe the game type isn't for you.
GOW1 is one of the best games I've ever played. GOW2 is more of the same Awesome.
GOW3 will probably be MOTSA on a grander scale.
And the PSP game was brilliant as well.
Can't wait for this.

Great review! I can't friggen wait for this game!!!
Now that you've played the final version, can you comment on how the final game compares to the build we saw in the demo? Was there a lot more fine tuning done to the visuals, etc?

In a move that I hope is emulated in other games, the quicktime events pop up on the side of the screen, mapped in the same layout as the face buttons on the controller. This may seem a bit silly, but the second part of this is very important to me. Don't just tell me to hit triangle, tell me to hit the top button of the 4. If you just put the triangle on the screen I have to figure out where triangle is and for a 360 gamer, that's not as quick and easy as you might think. I can't remember ever playing God of War 2. I think I sold my PS2 before it came out and after having to drop to easy to win the fnal battle in the original I wasn't excited about the sequel. I just may buy the third installment anyway.

Pick up the GoW Collection for PS3. God of War 2 holds up amazingly well and deserves to be experienced. The difficulty level is much smoother as well.

By far my favorite part of the demo was seeing how they did this. You miss all the cut scenes in 1 and 2 because of staring at the buttons! Great change here.

My my yes. That demo was chopped together from about 8 different spots in the game. I don't know how they made it work at all. It's far more smooth in the final.

They are actually superior in my opinion. The animation and lighting engine is second to none.
