Konami has just annouced a new internal group named "Kojima Productions" which will be run by Hideo Kojima.  On their plate is:

Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)
Metal Gear Ac!d 2 (PSP)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (PS2)

MGS4 will be based in the future...beyond MGS2 and starring all of the usual suspects (Snake, Ocelot, Meryl, Otakon)

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence will be a redoing of MGS3 along with an 8-person online mode.

So far the PS3 is the only announced platform.

My inner Metal Gear Fanboy is thrilled beyond imagination.

Particularly about MGA 2.  MGS 4 was a lock but I'm very happy that Acid did well enough to warrant a sequel.

The MGS 4 trailer is hysterical.  Uses MGS 3 engine though so next gen footage yet.

Best news- Kojima is directing MGS 4!

EDIT- Also, the Solid Sam Fisher takeoff was great too.

I'm waiting for the day when a Metal Gear title comes out and it's something like Metal Gear: Sustaning Sustenance Succinctly.

Another weird part as I'm going through their E3 lineup press release is that Castlevania: Curse of Darkness is coming on both PS2 AND Xbox this fall...that's interesting.

Holy crap, Acid 2 is cel-shaded.  Looks very nice though.

Kevin...can I ask where you are seeing these movies?  I'm trying to get the new Konami games in our DB and get the PR ready and I don't notice it on Gamespot right now...could you point me to where they are so I can enjoy it along with you?

Looks like the characters are Vamp, Meryl, Raiden (with Olga's baby?), Ocelot, Snake, Otacon and *maybe* Big Boss, and Naomi.

Could someone explain what the point of MGS3: Substance is?  Do we really need a remake two years later on a system that trumpets it's backwards compatibility?  It sounds like they're using it as a filler because MGS4 won't be out for awhile.

Oh yeah, from what I'm reading MGS3:S won't have MGS 1 and 2 in it but instead the MSX originals: Metal Gear 1 & 2.

Its a PS2 game, not a PS3 game.  Its just a re-release with additional content- a Gold edition if you will.  Not a remake.  Same as with Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance.  I don't think they've announced a release but I would expect it probably within the year.

The original post says it's PS3.  If it's PS2, then so be it, but I still don't see the need a year later.  It made some sense to offer the substance version on MGS2 because of the extra features added for the XBox release, but in this case it's the same system.  I understand this scheme works in Japan, but I don't think it's ever been proven as a winner in North America.

I don't see anything wrong with it.  Its not like the original game wasn't pretty packed with content already.  They aren't adding new missions or story or anything so I don't think anyone's missing out on not buying it.

MGS re-releases happened before the Xbox- remember VR missions for the PSX?

My bad...when I originally posted this there was no word on what system MGS3: Subsistence was going to be on...I have since fixed it.

It can't be any worse than Splinter Cell: Puppy Helmet. smile

Anyone catch that riff on Splinter Cell at the end of the MGS4 teaser?

It has snake with Sam's gear (three lens goggles and SC2000) and in his signature squat position.
