I never played the original Amplitude (or Frequency), but I know a lot of people loved those games.  Now you can try to make a new one happen with a Kickstarter from Harmonix

Assuming they make their goal, I'd imagine Harmonix pretty much knows how to make this game.

Wow, they're pushing their luck a bit with that short funding period, particularly seeing as projects with 30 day lengths are statistically more successful. Will be keeping an eye on this one, even though I never played the original Amplitude.

It's a pretty high goal too.

Amplitude was AWESOME!!! A friend of mine and I used to throw it up on a projector on this big blank wall in his living room and play it life-sized.

I'm not completely sure how fun it would be now that we've got the history of Rock Band and Guitar Hero to reflect on, but at the time there was really nothing like it.

With the success of Guitar Hero then Rock Band 1/2/3/Beatles, they still need to solicit Kickstarter funding? Where'd all their money go?

To the publishers?

Ding ding! We have a winner!

The game industry is hugely unfair to developers when it comes to how the money is divided. I'd imagine it gets even worse when the music industry wants its share too.

People are also saying that Sony has asked Harmonix to use Kickstarter to measure the potential interest in the game, which could mean that they are willing to step in with further funding if the Kickstarter succeeds.

Well, they are getting much closer than I expected based on the early trajectory.  They're at 87% of the goal with just under 2 days left to go, with a large bump over the last 3 days.  I imagine they'll hit their goal by the end but not much beyond.

I don't think I've ever seen a Kickstarter comeback like this. They were at $250k just a few days ago, and suddenly started accelerating wildly. Now that they're in the last 48 hours, the tempo should increase even more. They won't just succeed, but they'll succeed with a solid margin as well. This is likely to end up somewhere above $900k.

I missed that DLC bundle, and now the other tiers don't feel as good.

From your perspective, is the $775k asking price a reasonable one for a game like this?  And with no music licensing included as part of the $775k estimate?

Eh, this isn't really my strongest field, to be honest. Harmonix may be planning to create a pretty basic game as a foundation, and then build upon it with patches and DLC as sales secure more funding. I do know that the actual budget for the game is about double the base funding level of the Kickstarter, however. Harmonix is planning to pay the remaining sum out of their own pockets.

I ended up pitching in at the $125 level.  Will be cool to see what they do.

Bleh, I was wrong. Ended up at 844k. It's getting increasingly hard to predict these Kickstarters lately, and they don't really behave in the same ways as they did a year ago.

Anyway, I guess this means Amplitude is getting made. Looking forward to seeing what all the hoopla is about.
