Considering grabbing with the steam sale... or I could borrow at some future point in time from a friend on Xbox.

I've got a Q9550 (Intel Core 2 Quad)
4 GB RAM
GeForce 9800GT

So not new, but generally servicable system. Will it be sufficient or should I just go xbox at some point (with achievements... too). Probably won't have much time to play for a while with ME3...

a bunch of info on the upcoming Wii U version.

Quote
So, what changes have been made? Top of everyone's list, Deus Ex executive game director Jean-Francois Dugas and game designer Emile Pedneault tell Eurogamer, were the boss battles.

Deus Ex's boss battles are considered by many to be the weakest part of the game. They were frustrating, combat heavy fights that broke Deus Ex's sneaky heart, forcing players to fire guns pathetically after they'd popped all their upgrade points into stealth and hacking. In short, the boss battles were a bit crap, and it came as no surprise when it was revealed that their development had, in fact, been outsourced.

"We went through all the boss battles and said, 'let's just start from the beginning,'" Pedneault says. "So that's exactly what we did."

Each of the game's three boss fights have had their map layouts reworked to provide players with alternative potential strategies. New hacking challenges are available to players who focus on hacking, and stealth options are available to those who focus on stealth.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD:
Spoiler for Hiden:
You can now kill Lawrence Barrett, Yelena Fedorova and Jaron Nammir without firing a single bullet. "We took the whole experience Deus Ex gave you and we applied it correctly to the boss fights," Pedneault continues.

I may have to do a double dip on this, although it would be awesome if they brought some of the changes over to the PC (and other consoles I guess).

I'm also hoping they bring over some of those changes, but I think they're done with the PC and other versions.

However, I would not be surprised if they released a version for next gen consoles, using the PC and Wii U versions as a base, considering the architectures are a lot more similar than previous consoles.

Interesting. I too could end up double-dipping on this if the damn boss battles are fixed as noted. And if they do something creative with the gamepad.  icon_smile

so, the Director's Cut is supposed to hit the PC, 360, Wii U and Ps3 October 22nd.  360 and Ps3 will have second screen capabilities via SmartGlass or the Vita, while the Wii has the gamepad.  no word if the PC will have anything like that (doubt it) or if it will be just a totally new version or if owners can upgrade via DLC.

I don't think there will be a DLC version. There's nothing new in terms of story, even if the original had crap boss battles, you still got everything else.

It probably still has that crap ending.

The Director's Cut supposedly features redesigned bosses, which is worth the price of purchase alone.

I looked up some more details on this and found some of the more interesting changes to the Director's Cut, summarized below:

Quote
New Boss Fights
 • Boss fights have been entirely redesigned; new map layout and new gameplay mechanics that support the game’s main pillars (hacking, stealth, combat). Also feature AI, damage & health tweaks for the best boss fights possible.
 • It’s now possible to defeat bosses without the need to fire a single bullet.

This is the big one, of course. Sounds like they're making the fights what they should have been to begin with. smile

Quote
Technical & Other Improvements
 • Rebalanced energy system; Able to use more augmentations with more energy cell recharging. Makes the game more enjoyable and accessible on lower difficulty levels.

This is also nice. The original implementation of the energy system was kind of weird. I spent most of the game with only one energy available, which is kind of counter-intuitive. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of alternative they came up with.

Quote
• Improved visuals: With a better lighting system, fog and smoother shadows; all visual improvements from The Missing Link have been applied through the whole game. And with anti-aliasing, this is the best looking Deus Ex available.

Better graphics is always a plus.

Quote
• AI tweaked for consistency

Whatever that means.

Quote
Fan Features
 • Director’s commentaries; For the hardcore Deus Ex fans, approximately 8 hours of director’s commentary that reveals secrets and background info on the creation and production of Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut.
 • Strategy Guide: A strategy guide is available for the complete game including both the Missing Link and Tong’s Rescue mission. The strategy guide is implemented in-game and can be accessed through the Neural Hub at any time.
 • Achievements system; Original game achievements, The Missing Link achievements and new achievements are available!
 • A “Making Of” Video; The “Making Of” video of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, approximately 45min.
 • Left-Handed control mapping; for a total of 4 control layout variations
 • Languages: English, French, Italian, German and Spanish are available in both voice and subtitles. Choose to play the game with audio in one language but keep the subtitles on another.

This is cool. I'm going to watch/listen to most of this, I expect.

Quote
• The “in-game” menus are now toolkits; they feel like part of the game flow and one of Adam Jensen’s augmentations.
 • Tongs’s Rescue mission and the entire Missing Link chapter have been integrated seamlessly into the narrative flow of the Director’s Cut.
 • Original pre-order and other bonus weapons are now at Jensen’s disposal.

All good news. Particularly the bit about integrating the DLC with the original game.

Most of the rest of the stuff I found was Wii U specific, so I won't bother listing it. If you want to read the whole thing, you can find it here.

Smoother shadows? How about actually having shadows in the game. Tongue

The sad thing is, if I get this, I'd want to play with guns blazing since I did a no kill sneaking run through of the original already, which means that boss battles will pretty much be the same.

Really want to play this, on Wii U no less, I want the second screen features and don't have a Vita. So I am kind of upset that the Wii U version is $50. I am just going to wait on reviews and the inevitable price drop. I am in for $30 to $40, but not $50.
