In the past few days, I've been thinking about 'Spore' and how I wish that game could have been what it promised to be. 'Spore' had so much promise, but it squandered by a dumbing-down by corporate EA jackasses. By the end, you had nothing but a boring and repetitious space stage with no real strategy endgame/gameplay.

And what a shame. What the game could have been had they made some critical gameplay decisions: What if the design of your creatures truly determined their chances of survival to the space stage? What if, from the spore stage, the game could have generated 'nemesis' creatures that evolved alongside yours and became your arch-enemies in the space stage? What if the planets in the space stage had different qualities and were suited for inhabiting by certain types of creatures? What if the game could have truly made us think about evolution at a grand stage instead of devolving into selling cutesy creature-creation packs?

God, I hate EA.

....

Other games I wish could make a comeback: 'Dungeon Keeper'. Man, I really would love to see a current gen version of that game. A sequel for the Shiny RTS 'Sacrifice' would be super. There was this cool, little Activision RTS game--'Netstorm'. Anyone remember it? You played these islands in the sky battling each other. I would love to see that come back. When is 'Command And Conquer' gonna make a comeback?

So many games I miss.

Syndicate. You know, where you go out and conquer places for your corporation ala Freejack.

A version of Black and White in the "Better With Kinect" category. I really want to slap around my Lion avatar/pet.

Rock Band 4 for new-gen consoles, where you can import your old content.

Giants : Citizen Kabuto.

A decent Ultima where it's fun to explore.

Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight.

always love this topic when it comes up.  it's like groundhog day, all over again.  biggrin

anyways, I list my usual go to games, and I'll stick to those that I don't think have much chance outside of inspired kickstarter games.

Star Control 2. I want the same sense of giant universe to explore, large plot-changing decisions and off-beat characters and coupled with a twin-stick combat shooter using newtonian physics.  SC3 fits the second category spot on.  so much wasted potential.

Star Flight:  similar to SC2, but with a more realistic approach to exploration and navigation.

My usual game to stick on a remake list is Interstate '76.  Seeing that redone with modern graphics and physics would be a trip.

I'd love to see the original Mass Effect remade to bring it in line with the other games in the series.  All of the environments and skill sets would need to be completely rebuilt to support cover-based shooting mechanics that actually work, but that story deserves better game play than it got.

Alternatively, I'd also love to see Dragon Age 2 be un-made by having DA: Inquisition start with the protagonist waking up from a nightmare.

"Maker, what a dream!  I was trapped in a nearly-empty city where nothing ever changed, despite being trapped there for years at a time.  The whole world was made up of slightly different versions of the same musty cellar, and no matter what happened, I was compelled to behave like the most insufferable jackhole in all the kingdoms!  Anyway, let us never, ever speak of that horrid delusion again.  Now it is time for me to go out and explore this new dragon age...two!"  [TITLE CARD]

Ohhhh, another good one that really should be remade!

I remember Syndicate and Tenchu too. Two franchises that are sorely missed.

Man, I want another Emperor: Battle For Dune.  Or another Dark Reign. I want Funcom to make an Anarchy Online 2.

I would enjoy a update to the Jedi Knight games or the X vs. T flight games.

One game that stuck out to me is Space Marine, which I absolutely loved, but would have liked for it to have more mass market appeal so that it sold like crazy and they'd keep making more.

I also wouldn't mind a remake / sequel to Evil Genius, the Dungeon Keeper-esque base building game with a really cool mix of deception, interrogation, and trap-laying mechanics.  The pacing could be seriously uneven and there were a couple significant bugs that require fan-made fixes to address, but the fundamentals were strong enough to make me pine for a sequel.

In a similar vein: Startopia.  Much less sophisticated, but it was in space!

X-wing v TIE and/or Wing Commander.  There has been a real lack of space flight sims for too long.   I've been looking for Populous lately.. I'd want that, preferably on my pad.

I was just thinking we could use an Independence War remake so X-wing would be fine.  Somehow it seems like space flight sims just dried up.  I know the iPad would be a challenge for controls but I don't see people buying flight sticks anymore (if they even make them) so I think the big hurdle will be controls.

while it's not quite the sequel you wish for, they did kind of get one with Shinobido

Tenchu holds the distinction of being the first 3D stealth game, with a feudal Japan setting that beat both Snake and Garrett to the blackjacking punch by a matter of months. Although in more recent years the pioneering sneak 'em up has fallen from grace, that hasn't stopped Acquire from supplying ninjutsu fans with a slew of shuriken shovelling sequels - including the Shinobido conceptual spinoff series.
