I'm going ahead with this one.  I noted 2 others who seem like they're on board (Ceekay, Farscry).  Anyone else?

Would love to hook up online and explore the group play.  Didn't have much of a chance in the Beta.

Preordered and anxious to get into the action, I'm iffy on whether I'll subscribe or not. I suspect I'll at least try the Elite sub for one month after the first content update.

There is a demo (http://www.gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php/topic,23083.0.html), but it's not a good representation of the full game because it features only a couple of maps and a natural capacity to bring you only to the 4th level.  I played it, got turned off, entered the beta, got turned back on.

What Arkon said. However, if the memory exhausted error keeps popping up I will be sorely disappointed.  Sometimes I couldn't even start the beta.  Anyway, I'll be there.

I'm on the fence, I think it would absolutely rock with a regular group. But, I don't want to devote the kind of regular time it would take to play with a regular group.

I am probably "In." (I'd like to see how the promised launch day patch/tweaks shapes up). I'll be on business travel and just probably won't have time to get it or play til about a week from now. I'll be checking in here for impressions though. smile

Please read today's Bill Roper interview in Shacknews (yeah yeah, snake oil salesman, I get it) before you dismiss the game based on what I'd call a poorly thought out demo (I've rarely seen a demo drive so many people *away* from a game):
http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=649

I'm not saying you should preorder a game based on Roper's ramblings, just that it might be a game you keep an eye on for a little while to see if they deliver on the promises. OTOH, I reckon we've all seen prematurely released games that never quite became "whole" and half-baked MMOs released in premature desperation for revenue (*cough cough* Vanguard *cough cough*) that never quite reached their aspirations. So I don't blame those who think Hellgate's a turd with a cherry on top. I'm hoping the cherry turns into a silk purse. Uh... OK forget the metaphor, but I'm just trying to be an optimist.  Tongue

I am so deeply entrenched on this fence, it's pitiful.

I have a nice waffle maker up here, some money and a pretty good view.  I see a bunch of friends on both sides of it, having a great time with their decision.  "Hello down there!"

If I remember correctly, yes, you have a month or so after the game's launch (it's a set date) to decide to sign up for a Founder's Subscription or whatnot.

I was in all the way until I read about the ads, the in-game marketing, and the fact that all the cool stuff and additional content which should have shipped with the game is only available for subscribers.

Sorry gang, I don't play WoW and I'm not sure as hell not playing Hellgate: London despite how badass it sounds. It's tough to hear all the good things when the only thing I'm hearing of late is how they plan to make money off the subscribers. No dice, and no $50 for you. On to the next game...

...how they plan to make money off the subscribers.

I used to only play games that the developers lost their financial asses on, but lately I've decided everyone needs to eat.

The in game advertising doesn't bother me. The way they have it setup doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the game, especially when it's only in "hubs" where I'll be hanging around characters with names like "Corndog" and "lagolas".

The subscription model doesn't bother me either, provided they deliver on their end of the deal. If they don't, I'll have learned my lesson, but in the meantime I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. And my money to prove it.

Call me thick....But "even" if "all" that they say is going to be in the subscription based extra's turns out to be true, that still isn't enough for me to care enough to fork over my money on a monthly basis.

I just can't see this game having a community like regular MMO's....not even close. They are trying to please too many people here and I think it's going to back-fire.

Well I think a more accurate comparison might be to Diablo II... but by the time the expansion came out, I was already far past burned out on the game.  So really, I'm not sure what it's staying power will be, even if they do make a good game.

Who knows what will happen with subscription content?  That remains to be seen.  But it's much more likely they can justify additional (wo)manpower with an income stream as opposed to the promise of one with an expansion.  Further, it seems, from my limited engagement so far, that content will be the real issue with this game.  The core gameplay is fun.  The loot collection is fun.  The item modification possibilities are cool....

If the new content merely offers more to do and more/better items and doesn't introduce new tactical elements or build strategies, subscription lives will most likely end up fairly short.  They have an incentive, at least, to come through.
