Delayed until Spring 2014

Quote
"Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming," the company wrote. "It is with this in mind that weíve made the tough decision to delay the release until spring 2014."

Also The Crew..

Ubisoft also announced today that their open-world racing game, The Crew, will be delayed until the next fiscal year, which ranges from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015

WOW!  icon_eek

That's a big rug pulled out from under this new console launch cycle.

Still, as always, I'd rather have a great game that takes a little longer than a sloppy crapfest now.

Well, that was going to be the game I was going to buy with the PS4.  Now I'm considering not even buying a ps4, until later.

Yeah, this is a pretty big blow to the new consoles and the holiday gaming/selling season.  I was probably going to get it on PC either way, but still a bummer.

I agree with Bullwinkle, though, I'd rather they made this hard decision rather than rushing out an inferior product.  I'm sure they realized that this is the potential start of a new franchise and they don't want to duff it right off the bat.

man this really kills it for me.  Now I'm seriously of thinking of waiting till summer to get a ps4.  I have a couple of ps4 games on my christmas wishlist.  Assassins Creed 4, & Killzone.  The plan was to buy the PS4 and Watchdogs and play the others when or if I get them in December.

But those two games are not must have for me...  I still need to finish Assassin's Creed 3, and killzone is just something to have.

The games on the xbox one doesn't really excite me.  Forza looks nice, but I quickly lose interest in racing games.  Ryse looks boring and heavily scripted, and not interested in anything else at the moment.  The TV aspect looks cool though.

So with that said, there's really not any must haves right now.  I'm saving COD, BF4, Batman for the PC.

I really wanted to be in on the excitement of a launch console, since I never bought a console at launch.

Big question what happens to all those folks that pre-ordered the official PS4 Watch Dog bundle?

Last-minute delays is so like Ubisoft. They probably got cold feet about releasing this at the same time as Assassin's Creed 4 and delayed it in order to not cannibalize sales from themselves. I don't trust them for a second when they say this was for quality reasons, as that's exactly what they say every single time they delay their PC releases at the last minute.

I know this could really swing me into buying AC4. I more than likely wasn't going to get it because I was going to buy Watch Dogs and I didn't want two games from the same genre. I may get AC4 now instead.

A LOT of people are speculating this is why they did it.  They are wrong.   There was a hands-on press event and the feedback on the game was that it is fantastic and horribly infested.  They couldn't kill the bugs and polish it properly in time - plain and simple.

I'm in that pre-order bundle group.  No clue what's gonna happen, but my phone calls didn't yield me great answers so far:

In the same group with the pre order.   Hope this doesn't prompt amazon to do something stupid like that UK retailer with the last minute forced bundles.

Yeah, I don't think they would cannibalize their potential to be the game to get at the launch of two new consoles just to help out another series that is on their 6th game.

Well, this sucks....but as others said, I'd rather it be polished and fun....not rushed and buggy.

Anyway, it's not like I'll be lacking for games to play on my launch PS4. Assassins Creed 4 looks better each time I see it and Killzone is looking great.

Watch dogs now will have to go against Infamous in the spring....

now that I think about it it is odd that they don't have Watch_Dogs PC up for digital download anywhere other than uPlay; maybe they were holding off because they knew it woas more likely being delayed.

What if they just put a delay on your orders until Watch Dogs come out?    Then people that preordered the bundle will be left without a launch system since preorders have been out for a month or more?

Yeah... that would cause some screaming on the interwebs me guesses.

since it is an Amazon created bundle they may have only been tossing the game in the box with the system, so more likely they'll just ship the system sans game.

ok. I guess that works too.  like now, I can go to Newegg and get AC4 and get $8 back on top of saving the money on tax and shipping.

now, watch as they take the order and either delay shipment or have fulfillment issues.

That's kind of surprising.  Since they already have the last gen versions you'd think it would be relatively trivial to port to one more system with that version.

There's nothing trivial about porting between the three last-gen platforms, least of all the Wii U with its touch screen and infamously hard developer tools. The entire rendering engine would have to be specifically written for that platform, and the control system would need to be overhauled as well, not to mention the additional testing required. At some point the costs outweigh the potential income, particularly when the platform has so few potential customers, most of who already own another console anyway.

Exactly. And who buys multiplatform titles on the WiiU anyhow?

That said, Kotaku has updated their article saying that it was just a glitch in Gamestop's computers. It'll be back up tomorrow.

If it wasn't also coming out on PC, the WiiU version would be my platform of choice since it has slightly better graphics capabilities than the PS3 of 360 and I find that when games use the 2nd screen properly it is very convenient.  I also find the WiiU pad more comfortable to hold with my large hands. That said, PC will always trump consoles for me.

This is a risky assumption. While technically correct, developers don't seem to spend much effort exploiting the capabilities of the system since it's not worth the cost to them. The result is that several games have ended up looking worse on the Wii U than any other platform, PS3 and 360 included.

Iím going from the last couple ports Iíve seen from Ubisoft on the system, such as Assassins Creed IV and Splinter cell, both of which had noticeably better textures on the WiiU.  Thatís not to say they are huge differences but last gen graphics look pretty terrible at 60inch 1080p at this point anyways so any improvement helps.  Itís actually the reason why I prefer less realistic graphic styles on console games.

Now that I think about it, I believe the last-gen versions of the game will have differences from the current-gen and PC versions. I seem to recall them talking about this, mentioning stuff like reduced amounts of pedestrians and things like that. I would steer clear of any last-gen version unless you have no choice (or unless the reviews say all the versions are equally great, which I doubt).

Name change incoming?

Ubisoft drops 'Watch Dogs' Trademark

Quote
Ubisoft has abandoned its main 'Watch Dogs' trademark, leading to speculation the game may receive a new title.

It was today uncovered that the French publisher filed an "express abandonment" on February 1 on the Watch Dogs trademark, which it had held since October 2012.

With outright cancellation highly unlikely, such a move would appear to suggest the firm will grace the open-world hacking game with a new title, although a simple administrative error also cannot be ruled out.

CVG has reached out to Ubisoft for comment.
