I've heard from three unrelated people, all of whom are primarily console gamers, that the PC version is vastly superior to the console ports.  One said that after comparing all three, he'd rather not play it at all than be stuck with the 360/PS3 version.

Since you have them both, how would you compare them?

Even the developer has stated that.

I didn't follow the development of Deus Ex very closely -- except for the last week or so, it's kind of a stealth release to me.  Did the developer really say people should play the PC version or nothing at all? eek

Really "being stuck with it"!?! Wow, spoiled...
That might be a stretch... I'm playing the ps3 version and while it may not be
The most impressive visuals or tech ever, it's MORE than serviceable. In fact, aside from a few quirks it's quite impressive. Choose to not play it on a console, but you'll be REALLY missing out...

here is a pretty great video of the loading times form IGN
http://uk.ign.com/videos/2011/08/22/deus-ex-load-time-comparison-360-ps3-360

they do a three way split screen against 360 installed,PS3 installed and 360 not installed

360 installed wins it with a 22 second load(apart from the last one which is 27seconds,which is still the fastest of the 3)

they test it with 'loading times intro sequence'

'Loading times after a death in combat'

'Loading times after finishing the first level'

the order of fastest is always 360 installed,PS3 installed and lagging sometimes 10 seconds behind is 360 not installed

I've played a couple of hours and I love it. Of course this is my ideal game; no magic spells, elves or zombies, just guns and stealth and some complex and vague plot that gives me a reason to go around and make mayhem.

I'm still confused about the whole hacking thing. I seem to be blindly flagging nodes and not understanding why. Anyone have a link to a "DXHR Hacking for Dummies" site?

It took me a while to get the hang of it and I'm still not very good at it.

I only recently discovered that you can capture multiple nodes simultaneously.  Really comes in handy on those ones where you have to capture multiple end points.

Here's a hacking minigame guide.

yeah i am slowly getting to the hacking, although the tutorial on it flew right over my head

totally screwed up my first mission,so reloaded and did it right

i die a lot as well,i did try using the stun gun at first, but you have to get quite close,so i picked up an enemies weapon and just blew them away, guess i am a more combat guy than stealth icon_biggrin

You guys killed me...

Played for about an hour and, as I expected, it's not for me... crybaby

Went and got that "EA Pass" thing and downloaded Madden instead. That's more my thing.

Gonna throw it in the trading forum if anyone's interested.

No, I paid $25 so I could play NHL 12 3 days early. Madden/FIFA/Tiger/etc. were free!

Nope. No Oblivion for me! One of those games, like this one, that I probably should have skipped.

Funny thing is that I never buy any downloadable crap (besides Rock Band songs), but I was so pissed at how much I hated Deus Ex, and was in that 'new game mood' already, so I caved.

Why not follow up one crappy decision with another one?  icon_smile

I did enjoy Madden though, but that's for another thread.

All joking aside, this game REALLY reminds me of the first one. I for some reason( prolly mediocre reviews)
Decided to skip the 2nd one. Which I am now going to pick up.

My point is, anyone else getting insta nostalgia from this game?

Main discussion is in the pc section - As for the second game, ignore it - it has little to do with Deus ex and will probably just frustrate you if you expect a game like the 1st and 3rd

I'm really enjoying it on the 360. I'm taking my time, exploring all the areas and undertaking all quests. I don't know how many hours I've played (is there something somewhere that tells me?) but since starting on Thursday I'm still in Detroit. I'm also playing on the easiest setting; I've decided that while I don't mind spending hours on the game, I don't want it to be playing some missions over and over. And it's still pretty tough at times.

I am playing on normal(or middle setting)and it can be quite hard,i can withstand getting shot i think 3 times if i don't take cover inbetween and then i die

as for is there something that tells you how long you have played,i can't see anything, when you reload a previous save it has the date and current time, but not how long you have played unfortunately

I haven't been able to play since Friday night, and i am not going back on until tomorrow,so as i am only about 2 hrs in i may start again, this time armed with the knowledge i picked up first time round, mainly Pocket Secretary's that have the password for computers,

In hacking today i learned that you do not need to wait for a hacking operation on a single unit before moving on to the next one. Duh!! That made it much easier and faster.

This game is really frustrating me, but not for the reasons one would think. I've really gotten into the habit of playing the console versions of PC games, simply because of the enhanced immersion of a 55" plasma and surround sound. But the PC version  of Deus Ex is so VASTLY superior that I find myself playing on my 27" monitor instead.  Better controls, significantly better visuals, better loading times, better framerates, etc.

I'm going to hold on to my 360 version. However, if you have a rig that can handle this game with high settings, absolutely play the PC version. It seems to be the lead platform, as opposed to the horrible Deus Ex: Invisible War travesty, where they shoehorned a console game onto the PC.

You can hack anything you're connected to simultaneously.  But each thing you hack has an individual detection chance.  Still it's usually a better deal to attack two things at once than to do it linearly.

I've never played a game that takes so long to accomplish some stuff...of course that's bc of my extremely slow/stealthy approach. Believe or not, that is not bitching.  I love that this game gets me immersed like that.Very few game have done this. De1, thief series & only a few more...

Also, you can in many instances hack the "red node", giving you instant win in the hacking minigame with all the loot as well from the nodes.

Yeah, it does get better, I've just finished the next set of missions after Picus and it does get away from the endless hacking of desk terminals. I got caught up in hacking every desktop in the place and damn, that's a lot. I've also switched to less stealth and more violence  eek. Makes for a change, it does.
