didn't see a thread on this, which seemed odd, but here we go:

the latest bit of news on this one is that it is now PS3 only in Japan after they cancel the 360 version there.  not really surprising considering how limited the 360 audience is over there.

I think we were discussing it in the thread where it was first a 'countdown to the announcement' thread,i am on my 360 at the moment so can't be arsed looking for it but it doesn't matter anyway a new thread wont hurt

Surprised how little i have heard of this recently TBH,but not surprised on the no 360 Japanese version,i read the PS2 outsold it there last week...hopefully MS have a plan for next gen

not even sure i want this game, when it was supposed to be canon set inbetween MGS2 amd MGS4 on how Raiden became how he is and all that biz about getting Sunny from The Patriots sounded great, but since the restart and it now not being canon...i am not sure i am interested now icon_confused

The demo for this is out and it's a lot of fun. This was off my radar but I'm going to check it out now!

I played the demo earlier this afternoon and thought it was pretty cool. It's definitely an action/fighting game instead of stealth, but it does have a MGS vibe and might turn out to be a pretty cool game. I'm definitely more optimistic after playing the demo that it could be a worthy addition to one of my favorite game series of all time. I guess we'll know soon enough...

I'll be amazed if this game couldn't be had for $30 within the next next four weeks.  That isn't a commentary on the quality of the game, but with an average completion time of about 4-5 hours, Revengeance seems like the ideal game for near-immediate GameStop trade-ins and GameFly rentals.  Retailers who stocked up on the promise of flashy trailers and a big name franchise are going to be slashing their prices pretty early, I bet.

This game just oozes Metal Gear style.  The camera can get wonky sometimes, esp if you lock onto an enemy and they are moving in the air.  The slicing gameplay is really fun and it really feels like you are this crazy cyborg ninja once you get it down.

WTF Microsoft? Pre-order bonus from Gamestop is still non-redeemable for 360 owners.

I saw a quick look on this, and wow, I want it. However, definitely not paying the full $60 since it's still an action game. I don't mind short games, but not quite this one.

I'm curious why the 360 version of this game is ranking much better than the PS3 version? It's common for the same game on the 2 platforms to be a few percentiles apart, but on gamerankings the 360 edition is ranking 5% better than the PS3 with a similar number of reviews - that's quite a spread. Anyone know what the explanation for that is? I'd like to get this for my nephew who's a big fan and has both systems, but I want to get the best version.

I guess I would put 5% within the range of "a few percentiles apart".  They're 3 points apart on Metacritic, and that seems normal to me with different number of reviews and sources.

While the PS3 version has vastly improved cinematics (due to the Blu Ray vs DVD thing), the 360 has better frame rate performance, supposedly.  I can't say I saw this mentioned in the reviews, though.

Eurogamer did a whole write up on it.

Looks like I was completely wrong, by the way.  I think the $10-$15 savings you can find through Amazon is the most substantial deal I've seen on this game since release.

By comparison, Crysis 3 which launched the same day and has all the standard multiplayer hooks, can be had on any platform for half-price through Origin right now.  I'm not surprised about that turnaround at all, but the fact that Revengeance hasn't deigned to join it -- yeah, that's kind of amazing to me.

In some ways sort of, I guess.  It's certainly not a normal Metal Gear Solid game.  It's made by Platinum, the company founded by the original DMC director.  They also made other action games like Bayonetta, Vanquish and Anarchy Reigns so it's not too different for them.

I'm a few hours in so far and it's not exactly knocking my socks off. It feels like a very clunky version of DMC. Not sure I understand the design choices here - fast moving character who covers lots of ground very quickly fighting in confined spaces, and throw in a mediocre camera for good measure.

It's got some PC port issues, like low-res textures and various graphical bugs but, to Konami's credit, they've been slipping in minor patches in response. At least they decided to release it on PC and at a discounted price. I got it for $23.99 on Steam (full price is $30).

I've played through the opening hour twice and will have to do it a third time if I want to play it.   My game will not save even though I talked to the lady who is supposed to save the game.  I talked to her 4 times but when I had to stop and loaded the game up the file was empty.  Not sure that I want to do that again....

I'm mostly barreling through this game to see it through as I'm not enjoying it a whole lot. Raiden is a cool character from a superficial standpoint, but the writing and narrative is god awful. Coming fresh off my second play-through of Bioshock Infinite isn't helping the matter.

To be fair, I'm not a fan of games with a heavy emphasis on mechanics. This is probably a dream game for those who love deep and intricate combat engines, as well as gratuitous violence.

Oh, and the camera is horrendous.

Fuck this game. Fuck this game. Fuck this game.

I literally hate this game... I can't stand the combat, the camera, the boss battles, the music, the writing. It's the type of game that makes me hate this entire hobby, it's utter garbage.

Stay far away from this game. Do yourself a favor and spend your time better; plant a garden, volunteer at an old folk's home. ANYTHING but waste your time on this drivel.

I'm quite interested in this one, but not at full price.  Will pick it up on a Steam sale someday.

The game records my play-through at 6.5 hours, not sure if that's counting VR missions. And it's definitely not accounting for retries which would easily add 30% more time. I spent like 3 hours just on the final boss sequence

I respect where they were going with the combat system and the design of the character models is phenomenal. But it's not a good game... the people saying otherwise are doing so either because its a Metal Gear game or because of their Japanime obsession.

I have not played this game,i have tagged it when it was part of PS+,but at 19gb it put me off to download all that...one day i suppose i will try it

I liked the idea of the original version when it was to be named Rising that it was to be set inbetween MGS2 and MGS4 where ..

Spoiler for Hiden:
Raiden went to get Sunny(Olga's Child)from the Patriots, and how he became part Cyborg etc...but they changed it to be set 4 years after MGS4,which also put me off some

After looking into it a bit more, I picked this up on PC this morning, based partly on Ridah's anti-recommendation.  :p. I've got no tie to the Metal Gear universe (the last one I played for more than an hour was MGS), but I heard Revengence compared positively to Bayonetta (same developer).  Seeing as how Bayonetta is one of my favorite action games, I certainly think this is worth a look.  I wanted some eye-candy for the new gaming PC anyways, and this looked like as good a game as any.

If it's as bad as Ridah says, I'll come back and let him say "I told you so".  Sounds more that something that just didn't click with him (not that that's a bad thing...I'm in that boat for 90% of games these days).  Firing it up in an hour when the kids go to church...will report back later.

EDIT:  23GB?  OK, maybe it'll be a little longer before I get to play...

3 hours in, and I'm absolutely loving it...and this is coming from someone a) with zero investment in the Metal Gear games and b) who typically doesn't like action games very much.  This one is completely absurd, but a hell of a lot of fun.  My only real gripe is with the sometimes wonky camera, but it only cause me problems a couple of times.  The combat system is incredibly fluid (no surprise, given the devs), it looks incredible on my new gaming rig, it's alternately corny, ridiculous, hilarious, and pulse pounding, and the set pieces are fantastic.

I'm playing on easy, as I do with nearly every action game.  I'm not much of a twitch gamer to begin with, and enjoy being able to kick ass any enjoy a fun story and world.

I played on normal and loved it until one specific boss. Then things became absurd. Later, I entered another boss fight, and the checkpoint saved while I had no rations. Wanted to throw my controller through the plasma TV.

Finished this up tonight, thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.  Playing on the Easy level certainly had a lot to do with that...I can totally see how this game would be frustrating as hell on a tougher difficulty.  The combat system was a blast, the story was equal parts ridiculous and fun, the set pieces were a blast, and the boss fights were just...nutso.  I'd give it an A-, and have to thank Ridah for putting it on my radar.  smile
