can't really say that way is the best way to compare(making it one big screen,rather have two videos running)..but FWIW doesn't look like there is much in them

Haha, yeah that video is not a lot of use.  It's pretty much always going to be showing different things unless it's splitting a tiled texture down the middle.  Sounds like the main difference is one disc or three.  I care about achievements for better or worse, so I'll live with the disc swapping.

I read that the PS3 version plays smoother, whereas the 360 version has some framerate dips.

Yeah the GiantBomb section quoted earlier mentions some "painful" frame rate drops.  Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else, but also haven't read that extensively.  I'm almost on media blackout for this game.

I'm on PS3 - it does a install when you load it.  I've not seen a frame hitch yet and I'm about 2 hours in.  This game is HEAVILY focused on investigation.  Almost to the exclusion of everything else.  I'm *loving* it so far.  Figuring out if people are lying isn't as simple as you might think, and even if you have someone backed in a corner, you are a cop - you need evidence.  The gunplay events I've played through I've killed the suspects.  I'm going to try to 'incapacitate' the suspect and see if that ends without somebody in a bag.  This is not the game I expected from Rockstar, and that's saying a very good thing.  The dialog is tight, the graphics are phenomenal, the voice work is solid, and you'll recognize plenty of actors (including two from Mad Men in one case) and actresses.  Thus far, I'm quite impressed.

wow, steering seems a bit too sensitive.  I'll tap the thumbstick and the car will practically turn 90 degrees.  I don't see any option to adjust anything other than aiming.

I recall some reviewer saying that they tuned the driving to be more like an arcade game, in case some of you were expecting a bit more realism in the driving like GTA or Mafia.

It took "miraculous compression" to fit the well-padded detective sim onto three discs, McNamara revealed. "We've always been called stupidly ambitious," he reflected. "Along with Rockstar we make very big games."

"It took a lot of effort to get down to three discs - I think we were on four or five or six at one point - and to get it onto one Blu-ray [for the PS3 version]. We're pretty pleased that we got it down to that in the end.

midnight release, plus I live about 5 minutes away from the local Gamestop.  and that's walking.  I went and got my receipt at 10, came home had a couple of beers and watched Chuck, left around 11:50, got my game right away since I was number 6, and was back home and installing by 12:05am.

I'm a little pissed at Best Buy.  My local store didn't have a midnight launch, and I went this AM, hoping to get a DLC code, but they only gave them to midnight launch stores, none of which are anywhere near me.  How is that right?

I called and complained, but they seemed indifferent.

compared to how Noire's driving feels GTA is pretty realistic.  I'm dreading the first car chase.

GTA5 wasn't realistic, but the cars had a lot more weight than what people were used to.

It just sounded like LA Noire had driving physics that leaned much more heavily towards arcade, especially considering the vehicles of the time.

you played GTA5 already?  can you settle the argument on where it's set? 

you're right on about the feel, the cars feel way too light for the time.  I wish the cars felt more like they do in The Saboteur.

sometimes UPS doesn't update their system with 'out for delivery'.  it's gotten me worried a couple of times when I was expecting something time sensitive.

Yeah hopefully the system is just slow in updating.  I've had a few deliveries like that.

My copy from Amazon got delayed due the plane it was scheduled to go out on had a hardware failure yesterday. I would be miffed, but plane safe is waaaaaay more important than a game.

Doesn't look like I'll get mine for another few days at least.

That sounds like quite a lot of compression as the game code that wouldn't be compressed could take up at least a sizable minority of 1 disk. That no doubt explains the difference in frame rate performance between the 2 consoles. Hmm...I can't decide whether to get it for 360, play it on a buddies PS3 or hold off for the possibility of it eventually coming to PC? If it's 20+ hours that rules out playing it on a friends PS3. For those playing it, is it a lot of run & gun that could be effected by poor frame rates or is the action more scarce than other RS games?

well, it is L.A. Of course, the "Noire" part should mean you'd at least get some moody clouds or something.

Addendum to my previous - yes, I've seen some issues with framerate with the PS3.  I ran over a LOT of people at once and the framerate plummeted.  It was temporary, but yes, it does exist.   I'm about 4 hours in and I'm loving it so far.

According to the Gamespot video review, any shots will kill suspects regardless of where they are hit.

I heard two bits of info that might pertain to this:

1) Setpieces that are designated "shootouts" are basically kill only
2) If you are chasing a suspect, target yourgun on them and wait, a little timer thing will appear.  If you wait enough, you will fire a shot off in the air and they will hopefully stop in their tracks

I havn't confirmed either of these myself.  My copy is sitting right next to me now staring... taunting... calling out to me.

looking at my friends list to see who was playing L.A.Noire....huh.none of them....but it seems that the xbox cover thing next to the avatars is a little screwed up,the game cover next to Bull's avatar isn't L.A.noire,but it says he is playing it when i press A on him...so who knows what that game cover is?,I don't recognise it is it a phone or PC game?

I'd be tempted to buy it elsewhere and send the Amazon one back, but I also have Witcher 2 downloading so hopefully that will be enough for now
