What is this "Act 1" that you're talking about? I don't recall the game ever dividing itself into such parts. I've seen a number of walkthroughs (such as this one) that refer to everything up to meeting the Duke as "Act 1". Basically I'm at the point where I've done all the quests I can before meeting the Duke. Guess I'll probably just go talk to him now and advance the story. IIRC that would be a guy in one of the buildings across from the Pawn Guild. That's where I got the quest, but it's telling me I need to take a wakestone somewhere in order to revive his dead son. When I select it, however, it doesn't give me any sort of map marker showing where that "somewhere" is. I have a wakestone in my inventory, but have talked to the questgiver a couple times now and nothing has happened. Hoping it's not another bug... When i went to see the Duke, first time around,a lot of my quests failed(including giving the wakestone to the guy)...but it wasn't until way after seeing the Duke that Griffins appeared(when it was introduced afterwards in the main story),so how have you still got that Wakestone quest and you have been fighting Griffins? I saw my first griffin hours ago (probably around level 23'ish). I've taken down 4 of them at this point and fought two others that got away....they just keep ambushing me while I'm wandering around. Maybe they trigger when you hit a specific level, rather than a specific point in the story...?

yeah i had to interact with the kid on the deck
and that's weird with the Griffins, every monster that appeared in the wild didn't make an appearance until i did the main story one..and i uncovered all the map and did all side quests i could before i saw the Duke so weird i did not see one
Griffins and Cockatrice definitely apply to this for me
I was level 40+ when i saw the Duke BTW,and the rest of the game was still a good challenge(especially the Everfall post game)..that Drake was still a bastard right up until the second playthru where he was very manageable

The griffons were weird for me as well, since I had taken down a great number of them outside the town before they were introduced at that part in the story (and the fact that it didn't let me actually kill him there made it all the more weird). Practically every damn time I left the town I had one attack me, so it got to the point where I would just keep running on my way to avoid the nuisance.

Are you sure you've actually got a wakestone, and not just a wakestone shard? You need three shards to make a real wakestone, which is what you need for this quest.

I saw them but they never actually landed until I got the quest. it was kinda annoying because all I wanted to do was kill them, but no, they had to be difficult.

Well...shit. Was doing the "Trials and Tribulations" quest tonight and Spoiler for Hiden: tracked down three affidavits of guilt, then found two of innocence, brought the witness back from the tower (innocent), and had 3 forged documents stating his innocence as well. The tally should have been 6 innocent vs. 3 guilty. Somehow, Fournival was still found guilty and locked away, which means I don't have access to his shop. Trying to figure out how the hell that happened. And since there's only one save slot, there's not much I can do about it. DD is starting to lose some luster now, mainly because the story is so laughably bad. Case in point: Spoiler for Hiden: I meet the Duke's wife and have about a 30 second conversation with her. A couple days later, her handmaiden passes along the message that she wants me to meet her in her bedchamber. Sure, whatever, I guess. As soon as I walk into her room, she starts professing her undying love for me. Um...who are you again? The Duke then comes into the room and tries to kill her for no apparent reason while screaming about "Lenore" (whoever that is). I break it up...and she proceeds to claim that I broke in and tried to have my way with her. I then get thrown in prison. After being beaten down in prison, she sneaks into my cell, again professes her love, then tells me I should leave in nothing but my skivvies. As I'm sneaking out, I throw a brick at the guard, miss, and get re-arrested. Paying the guard $5K lets me simply walk out of jail with all my gear intact like nothing ever happened. Wait...what? Gametrailers review hit it on the head with this comment: "This makes all the momentous story turns fall somewhat flat. You’ll save characters you don’t care about from the precipice of doom, and vanquish villains who you’re only passingly familiar with." The gameplay is still kinda fun (although killing my 793rd goblin is getting a little old), but I don't feel the least bit connected to anything that's going on.

Okay they have sold 1 million now(not shipped) http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-07-30-dragons-dogma-scales-reach-1-05-million-unitsThe game surprisingly struggled overseas(as in not Japan) Dragon's Dogma sales are 1.05 million, according to Capcom's bright and cheery April-June 2012 financial report.
Most of that success came from Japan, where Dragon's Dogma "exceeded expectations" - although the game "struggled abroad".
We knew at the end of June that Dragon's Dogma had shipped more than 1 million copies, and that there would be more Dragon's Dogma games made as a result. That's a stance echoed in today's financial report, which declared the stage set "for creating a series of titles".

It's a very quirky game with little marketing muscle behind it. It's also got a decidedly Japanese style to it that can be hard for a lot of people to deal with (me included). Given all that, it's not hard to understand that it struggled.

Yeah, if it hadn't been for all the talk here I would have never given the game a second glance. But I'm very glad I did, and I'm happy to know that it did at least well enough for a sequel.

not sure what this is about...a patch is incoming for an Easy Mode SilconeraCapcom said sales of Dragon’s Dogma "struggled abroad," but they aren’t giving up on their fantasy game. In fact, Capcom plans to make Dragon’s Dogma more accessible. A PS3/Xbox 360 patch scheduled for August 6 will add Easy Mode into the game. Players can switch between difficulty levels in the option menu at any time.
PlayStation 3 owners will also be able to download a new Dragon’s Dogma demo that lets players sample the beginning of the game. You start by creating a character, making a pawn, and fight all the way up to the hydra battle.
Data from the Dragon’s Dogma demo can be imported into the final game. The new Dragon’s Dogma demo is slated for release on August 9. Here's an idea,do the sidequests and then you will soon be overpowered and then everything will fall easily

Wow...that's their answer to generate more interest in NA and Europe? The game gets pretty damn easy about half way through as it is (until the Everfall stuff). The Capcom brand doesn't have the mass draw in NA and Europe (for RPGs) that a Western company like Bethesda does. It was an unknown new rpg from a developer that isn't known for Western style rpgs. Making it easier to appeal to Western gamers is kind of insulting if that's what they think we want. I loved the game, so if it leads to more sales and positive awareness, that's good. I think they're missing the bigger picture though.
The new ps3 demo sounds a lot better than the original demo.

Options are good, just because they are patching in an easy option doesn't mean you have to play it on easy.

I think the people that overlooked the game will have no idea that they are patching it anyway, so I'm not sure what good they expect it to do unless they are also firing up a new marketing campaign.
It's nice that you can switch modes at any time, but you could kind of already do that by hiring some higher level pawns at any time.

Well speed run would only be useful for first run(if you don't really want to play it ),because i played the game three times for achievements i had missed etc,and the 2nd and 3rd run throughs took absolutely no time at all They have kind of taken their time with the expansion pack if it's not out until next year, and with all that lesser DLC out there,i may wait to see if Capcom will bring out a 'GOTY/Ultimate' edition instead of re-picking up the game for the expansion, which knowing Capcom and how they love to re-release their games(see Streetfighter)the 'GOTY/Ultimate' edition is in the bag Great game though, and because i have hardly bought any games this year,it's still my GOTY

I can't wait for christmas - I'm going to be make a new runthrough of this wonderfull, wonderful game! Its a shame that a second playthrough is way to easy, so hopefully this will make it harder and better.
Its one of those weird games, that is actually skill based, which works very well the first time through.

Dark Arisen will feature Japanese Voice Over OptionDragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen - the "major expansion" to Capcom's open-world fantasy action game - will allow the option to play with Japanese voice-overs, due to fan request.
Capcom-Unity further noted that Dark Arisen will include further character customisation, new armour and weapons.
Due in 2013, the expansion will follow your Arisen through a "massive" new dungeon in the ominously named Bitterblack Isle. The add-on will contain new foes like the Greater Goblin, the Goblin Shaman, the Prisoner Cyclops and even Death. I love the first comment on that Eurogamer page

Yes to more of Dragon's Dogma, especially if it's aimed at higher level characters that have finished the game. I wish the current new game+ was a better experience. This game was such a surprise, becoming one of my favorites of this generation.

Dragons Dogma was an exciting game that I picked up a little bit after its launch. I loved how you got to design your own character and your companion and the add-ons that popped almost instantly with the game made it that much easier. Weapon packs and rift crystals all accessible with just a few dollars that could grab you the most powerful companions you could find. I know that I was happy to find out that you could hire a PSN friends companion free of charge and that helped me tremendously with hiring my cousins level 85 companion as soon as I found a rift stone. In all I had myself, my warrior pawn, a level 48 mage pawn and my cousins which I cannot remember the class of. My cousin hired my pawn and sent him back to me with the highest level equipment he could get his hands on though that did not help as much as you might think it would have. I especially liked the stamina bar that allowed you to hold onto things, I have almost 29 pictures of my character holding onto the legs of a harpy and being flown through the air which I aptly nicknamed a "Harpie ride." I would give Dragons Dogma a 9.4/10 and would openly recommend it to other rpg and open world game players.

Yeah I think the hiring of XBL/PSN friends pawns was genius, best outcome if you could not include Co-Op
Although the expansion for this game has not been released yet,i am eager to see what Capcom can do to this for a franchise
It's one of those titles that seemed to be a hit with gamers, but mediawise it was quite hidden away..but there have been many games like that which i have loved(Infinite Undiscovery for one)

I ended up selling my copy but I have been tempted to pick it back up and play it again. It was truly a wondrous game. Another thing that was awesome about the pawn system was their ability to bring back items from their travels as gifts from those who hired them. I really liked that part.

It all sounds pretty good, except that the game will be almost a year old when the expansion is released. If this had come out back when I was playing the game, I would be tempted. Now? not so much.

I'd be interested to see how that recent Rage expansion sold as a test for the viability of this. An RPG is a different animal than a shooter, though. Of course, I haven't finished either, but I expect to finish Rage some day and still didn't pick up the expansion.

Look at Skyrim, which was released November 2011(so 14 months ago),that has expansions coming out for it costing £14(1600msp),and now with Dragon's Dogma we have the new expansion AND the full original game(released some 7 months ago)and updates all for £20 just look at it as a GOTY type release This reminds me very much of Divinity II which was first released in 2009,however Divinity II:The Dragon Knight Saga was released a year later, with the expansion etc as well as the original game in one package Only difference for me was when i bought Divinity II:DKS,i had never played the vanilla version of Divinity II

full game delivery for expansion only(so the DLC wont be available separately) http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-13933-Dragon-s-Dogma--Dark-Arisen-Not-To-Be-Sold-as-Separate-DLC.html"As it turns out, I'm sorry but unfortunately there were major technical limitations that would couldn't allow for a digital upgrade path."
Svensson went on to explain further, adding: "The original game was just not designed to be expanded (no hooks in the original code) and so a full-game delivery mechanism was the only option.
"We also tried to explore a number of mechanisms to try and otherwise put this full product in original owners hands at a discount digitally but we would have run afowl of a few first party policies (not any first party's fault, t'was our fault).
"So instead, we're packing more than $20 worth of value in digital rewards for existing users: 100K rift crystals (which in DDDA have a LOT more uses than they did in DD vanilla) the Gransys armor pack and the unlimited Ferrystone. We hope this will be a sufficent "thank you" for being part of the first wave of Dragon's Dogma fans given the development limitations we had."
Svensson concluded: "Thanks again for your continued support and I hope to see you in Gransys in April."

They basically had no purpose for me in DD vanilla since I always got the pawns of friends, so any uses would be a LOT more.
