Has anyone tried this "Different Sky" DLC?  Is it worth it?

I bought it and did the first quest and it was basically just going to the starting village and finding an object on a rooftop.  Not sure if it gets better from there or not, but certainly wasn't terribly exciting.  Of course, it's also .99, so maybe that's just what you get for that price.

augments carry over from vocation to vocation.  Other than that core skills if the vocations share the weapon carry over.  There are a couple skills that are shared, those will also carry over, but it's hard to know which ones until you switch.

You can switch for free to any vocation you've already been though so it's pretty painless.

So if my eventual goal is to have a guy who can rock with a bow but then deal decent damage with swords, would a path like Strider -> Ranger -> -> Assassin   work well? I'm assuming/hoping that all the bow skills I pick up in the Strider and Ranger vocations will be available as an Assassin.

a Ranger all maxed out in Vocation is VERY good. I did that, and went Magick Archer afterwards, which is kinda a bummer. I don't like the skills, and it feels like a somewhat slow class to play. It does have one majorly awesome bowskill though - the Flare. It simply looks incredibly great in a battle in pitch dark to fire it against an enemy, who is then brilliantly lighting up the entire battlefield.

That said, I find Rangers to be very very good at bowskills, both against single targets (11 arrows at once to the face!) and against multiple foes.

Keep in mind that Magick Archer scales better with Magick Attack and not Strength which is what your Ranger/Strider was building. M. Archer would be stronger if you started with a mage.  It's still good mind you, but from a min/max perspective the non-assassin hybrids both have reasons to start from mage.

Roguetad, that cyclops you fought was one of my most epic moments.  If you climb its arm and start smacking, every couple hits it will stagger a couple steps to the opposite side.  I did this twice and it teetered over the edge with me barely jumping off and grabbing the ledge as the cyclops fell about 1000 ft to the ground below.  Sadly no loot was to be had.  retard

That's the way to do it.  I kept trying to find a clever way to lure him off the cliff, but never could get it.  Since then I've learned that we can do flying leaps and jumps at large monsters, hit grab and hang on, instead of having to climb up.

I'm impressed by how dynamic the combat system is.  Almost anything I've wanted to try I've been able to do.  Most games don't work like that.  There's always some artifical barrier or gameplay mechanic limitation.

One thing that I noticed when starting a new character for kicks on my GF's account, is that its actually NOT the same spawns in all places, and I got a cutscene that wasn't there the first time around, so things are apparently a bit more random that I originally though.

That reminds me - The game tells me a lot about "Doing good deeds builds affinity with npcs", but it seems like this is a system that really wasn't implemented after all? I havent seen a single occurence of the system. The "Give gift" thing you can do as well to npcs is something that is absent from pretty much everywhere but the first area.

That system is referenced for the escort quests. They are described as a one-time chance to better your relationship with an NPC. Little did I know, the first time I did such a quest, that the NPCs you escort are people you actually interact with in cities. When an NPC died during an escort quest I was doing, I thought little of it. Now it turns out he's probably important in some way and I'll never find out what I'm going to miss with him gone.

Ouch - They did smell of danger to me, so I've avoided them so far. For some reason I read the quest text as a onetime chance to improve your pawn? weird.

Hmm, a little fact-checking seems to reveal that the NPCs respawn after 7 days if they die. That's good to know.

Yup,and the Bradygames guide(which is one terrible guide) told me it was just the 4 quests from Ser Maximillian at the castle gate that i needed to do

I have about 20-30 open, and for some reason it was just those 2 that got cancelled...doesn't even make sense that they got cancelled, they don't concern the duke in anyway

I had my first epic battle with a cyclops last night. I jumped on his arm right straight from the outset and started whacking away. His health meter dropped so quickly that I thought I had figured out a way to kite him. What I didn't realize is that those dots under his health meter meant he actually had another 4 or 5 bars.  icon_eek  At one point later in the fight, I was on his head stabbing like a madman when he grabbed me. I couldn't figure out exactly what I was supposed to do to get free (shake the L-stick?) and it ended with the cyclops biting my head. Took me down from something like 700 health to 15 in that one bite.  icon_eek  Luckily my pawn was Johnny-on-the-spot and healed me right as soon as the cyclops dropped me. We managed to take him down a few minutes later.

Later that evening I apparently made a wrong turn (trying to find the Shadow Fort for an escort quest) and ended up running into a chimera. That ended badly (and quickly).

So, have they released any patches for this game yet?  How is it running on the PS3 ?  You guys seem to like it.

But, I thought the demo was pretty meh, and quite a few reviews did not seem too impressed.

Is it worth 60$ now, or wait for a patch and a price drop?

If you hadn't guessed from my writings about it yet, its my Game of The Year so far. The combat is simply brilliant, the open world is awesome, and the fact that there is NO fast travel makes such a huge difference in this game, in that nighttime is DANGEROUS, and once darkness starts fallings, its really an awesome "oh shit" moment.

All in all, hell yes its worth full price!

I am absolutely with you.Sure i hate the save system as you may of guessed and the only other thing i hate is the main menu music, kinda works great in Anime, but in this it grates the ears(all other music is fantastic, especially when you exit Gran Soren into the fields, when wearing my X11s the Orchestra and singing can be fantastic)..oh and i think Capcom are making money everytime someone says 'aught'  Tongue

I can't remember if there were any problems in the demo on 360 to compare it to the full release

The people on the PS3 forums seem to be enjoying DD,not heard them complain about anything TBH

PS3Trophies.org(sister site of 360Achievements.org) can be a good place to go to see if anyone is having any problems, they will soon ask on there if something is wrong

I get the impression that the writers were trying to write classic English without having the faintest idea how it is used. It doesn't help that the voice actors clearly have no idea either.

I've run into some framerate slowdown on the ps3 when certain spells are used at the same time.  Most of the time the framerate is ok to decent.  If I use both of the mystic knight sigils at the same time, with more than a few enemies nearby, the framerate will take a noticeable drop on the ps3.  It's not a huge deal...I've learned to work around it.

It's such a good game that I can overlook some of the negatives...like the awful intro music and single save/single checkpoint save system.

I was trying out some new skills last night well away from any npcs, and one of my practice attacks must have pissed someone off.  The guards got me and sent me to jail.  5000 gold later I was back on the streets with an autosave overwriting my last manual save.  My last checkpoint save was from 2 hours prior.  Lesson learned?  Trigger checkpoint saves more often (sleep at the inn or use rift stone).

Lots of rpgs advertise free world adventure and exploration, but this is the first game in a long, long time that I think actually captures the intensity and beauty of exploring unfamiliar territory (in a hostile world).  I remember reading the Jack London books as a kid, and the characters always feared the sun going down...that's when the wolves came out.  Surviving the nighttime was a constant struggle.  This is the first game I've played that creates that feeling.  When I ran around in Skyrim, I was never apprehensive about day/night, what healing stuff I had, and who was with me.

yeah, night can be nasty.  last time I got caught out at night I was in an area that spawned some nasty bandits, so I just found a quiet nook and let the game run while I caught up on some reading.  I figure it'd be the same thing my characters would have done.

I screwed up big time in an escort quest. The person I was supposed to protect is the Gran Soren Innkeeper. He died and now I suffer the consequences. This means I can't rest, train, bank items, or change vocations for a long while. He may respawn eventually, but for me it's been 10 days and he isn't back yet  crybaby

See if Leah from New Tristram will buy the place. She keeps rattling on about opening an Inn.

If I had played the demo (which I believe is the intro action section) I would have never bought the game and found out how enjoyable it actually is.  The game isn't perfect, but it is quite a lot of fun and the pawn system is pretty cool.

Number 1 in Japan

Quote
Capcom's action RPG Dragon's Dogma has roared into the weekly Japanese sales chart at number one.

The big-budget fantasy title sold 302,040 on PlayStation 3, with the Xbox 360 version adding another 29,024. That's the highest Japanese week one total for a new IP this console generation.

This. I've heard "aught" being used in so many ways, some of which are directly contradictory to each other. It's pretty annoying. I assume this is a fault of the translators?

My other main issue (other than the annoying intro music) is that there is definitely some graphical tearing on the 360 version of the game. Nothing major, but can be fairly obvious from time to time.

Oh and I wish there was a way to make the pawns talk less. I don't need to know that wolves travel in packs every time I see a wolf. And I'm pretty sure my pawn is confusing harpies with sirens ("Don't listen to their song!").

They use aught way too much for sure, but it's been pretty consistant to me in it's usage.  It's the opposite of naught, which is also used way too much.

there is a way to make pawns talk less.

ralph if you go to an inn (any inn - or at least any of the ones ive been to so far) if you go around near the front desk to the "lobby" youll see something called the knowledge chair - if you use it, you can change the way your pawn acts, including speech frequency.  you can use it often to change other stuff if youre so inclined

also MO thanks for the shots of my pawn!  i hope she stays useful for you (and anyone else who wants to take her - shes wielding a single massive and deadly blade now - should be fun!)

You get asked different questions each time you sit on the Knowledge Chair I think, so you won't always be asked about the speech frequency.  I've actually been trying to get my pawn to talk more, since only the secondary pawns seem to talk for me (including yours, Ralph Tongue ).

Later on you can also buy potions that specifically target certain changes to your Pawn's behavior.

I went to Witchwood today

Creepy

The Witch there(she looked about 10 years old),said something like "oh,is there anything else i can do" when i first met her...Huh?,have we met before?,if we did i can't remember

On my way back i went down to Bloodwater Beech, and explored all that west hand side, saw a Dragon near the healing Spring, which was about 7-8 levels(you know what i mean?,you knock one health bar down and you have 7 more),so I ran away Tongue..and then went back through the Ancient Quarry and finally cleared out the 3 ogre's there

good bit of work for the day

I have noticed now that i am level 30,that there are a lot more monsters about,i mean named monsters like Cyclops or Chimera rather than normal enemies, even in the surrounding fields of Gran Soren, bleeding Griffin keeps on flying about as well but whenever i get a fix on him and do some damage the sod flies off!!

There are a couple early quests from the first areas to go to the Witchwood, so I guess if you're level 30 and didn't do those then...yeah, you deserve an incongruous dialog line.  Tongue

Tried activating 'Lost and Found' quest,it should of activated after i defeated the Hydra near the beginning of the game,it didn't activate, and again because i have spoken to the Duke now,i wont be able to activate it

Getting sick of being punished for advancing that part of the storyline(it doesn't even concern the friggin' Duke)..it seems like its a vital quest as well, because other quests wont activate either now(Witch Hunt for one)

Thinking of starting again and throwing the Bradygames guide out the fucking window icon_mad
