What's the patch story??

I keep thinking of jumping back in, but haven't had the nerve.

I forgot to check, but from the forums it is supposedly fixed.

Sad to see that the last person in this thread was CeeKay more than 2 years ago.

Anyway, it looks like Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisent will be coming to PC early next year, in January 2016 on Steam for $30.  Supposedly with some improved graphics, but not sure if that's anything more than the standard resolution increase.

I really enjoyed this game and even bought the Dark Arisen version for 360, but I never did go back and actually play the expanded content since the original was still a bit too fresh.  This might be a good chance to go back after having some time away.

Anybody picking this up on PC this week?  I'm curious to hear impressions from those that played on the 360 as well as new players.

Definitely!  Half the fun of the game is the crazy pawn system and interacting with other people's pawns.

Also, I already broke down and pre-purchased the game.  Apparently two people picking it up is now my lowered threshold of "forum effect".    retardicon_biggrin

I am "Engine Nine" on Steam for anybody who wants to add me (assuming the pawn system uses Steam Friends lists).

Already been playing it for the site. I can't give too much in the way of impressions.

What I can say: I didn't play this when it came out on last-gen. Playing it now, on the PC, I understand why people got into this game. It's definitely a unique title.

Aggghhh. Now I have to hold my silence until Jan. 14. biggrin

Is there a way to continue a save from the 360 to the Xbone?

I'm curious, since you're reviewing this early are there enough pawns from other people and/or people using your pawn to make that system come alive?

I've found many pawns out and walking around. Since I'm unfamiliar with the system I'm not fully sure of the extent of what you're bringing up, but I've just been bringing around my own pawn and a rotating stable of secondary pawns as I see fit. I've been rotating them out depending on whether or not they've been working out (looking at you Tyrone), but I've never been wanting for options.

As far as others using my own personal pawn? I'm unsure if there would be a notification or not if they did. I'd imagine that devs and other press are playing as well, so those are the pawns I'm probably finding and using.

Well, one cool part about the pawn system is that every time other people use your pawn it can "learn" from what they are doing.

For instance, if they encounter a beast that you have never encountered, after your pawn comes back to you they will then be able to give you hints on how to defeat it.  If the other player killed a cyclops with your pawn and then you later encounter one, your pawn may then say "climb it and stab it in the eye" or something.

And the same goes for quests, secrets and areas discovered on the map.  It was a really unique and ingenious "multiplayer" solution.

And of course any pawns you have with you are also learning and taking things back to their owners.  So you want to be helping your friends out and them doing the same.

My mistake.  I thought this was for the next gen consoles.  Probably for the best.

Not to sound snarky, but is there really a review embargo on what's essentially a PC port of a 3 year old game?  Isn't that a little odd?

Eh. Embargoes aren't always just for outward-facing stuff. A lot of times it just makes sure that everyone publishes at the same time.

Otherwise, you get a Wild West race to the finish for publications. Which doesn't really help anyone.

This has been the top seller on Steam for the last few days, which gives me hope that it will be seen as a success by Capcom.  And plenty of pawns available in the pawniverse as well.

I went ahead and pre-ordered from GMG for the 25% off.  I was playing on the last gen but it died when I was about 8 hours in and I never picked it back up so I'm looking forward to the PC version.

Just did the same.  Glad that this isn't a case of crappy Capcom port like so many we get.  This should clear up the muddy textures and framerate issues we used to see on console.

I am "Engine Nine" on Steam for anybody who wants to add me (assuming the pawn system uses Steam Friends lists).

It does. Also, Pawns rented out via Steam friends cost nothing to rent (or so the Steam forums say).

I've grabbed it (and Kato apparently found me on the Steam friend list as I got a request yesterday or so). Looking forward to playing it....right before I go to work for the day.

Damn timed unlocks.

Yes the pawns were absolutely free when drawn from the friends list. This was how it was on the 360 so I hope this is the case on steam.  Glad I found Destructor on the GT steam group, and I will also be sending out more friend requests because for some reason never bothered to check the group page.

Is anyone else having a problem getting an xbox controller working? I changed the video options no problem but when I select controller and hit backspace it doesn't save the change. I tried with both xbox one and 360 controller attached. I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

I think the menu for controls lets you see and assign for either, but you're not actually selecting your control method. The game will use either/or while you're actively playing, so your controller should just work if have it plugged in and can see it there.

Also, on the menus Back and Save are different actions, just for clarity.

Yeah, I had to actually reboot my computer for some reason and then it started working.

Then I played the tutorial, the game went into an endless load and didn't save my progress.  Off to a great start.

My game keeps stuttering and dropping frames at random which appears to be a common issue.  It's not a deal breaker but very annoying, kind of like your character has the hiccups.  Other than that the game looks great and is much improved over the 360 version which I spent too many hours on.

I started up and played for a couple hours maybe, but haven't quite gotten my own pawn yet.

I'm happy to see I have 8 Steam Friends who already have this game...should be interesting pawn swapping in another day or two.   icon_smile

Still in the starting area that I know so well from the 360 version and having fun.  My issue is the sound drops out during cut scenes and when NPC's are talking and I had the frame rate issue once as well

If anyone is in the same boat, it seems they didn't test the game on preview versions of Windows so you have to drop an in old video driver to get the game to go past the tutorial. There's instructions in the Steam forums.

So I'm friends with a bunch of you on Steam, but it says there are no Pawns available when I filter it to search by "Friends Pawns".

Does it not pull pawns from your Steam friends list?  That would suck...  frown

I think it does, but I know I haven't yet gotten to the part where I create my own pawn.  I just got to the little encampment after finishing all the quests in the main town I could.

Hopefully later today depending on how much time I spend with family.

Might be that folks just haven't gotten far enough in yet.  Also remember that pawn changes (gear, skills, etc) aren't available to others until you rest.  They're uploaded after the rest is complete.

I'm going to have to fiddle with the graphics options.  It kinda runs like crap (big framerate dips), even on the low settings.  I just updated my video card drivers on Thursday, so I know that's no the issue.

It works. I've already hired Pawns from Razgon, Caine, and Hotfreak.  When you first zone in the place where you choose your pawns, the room will be populated by the pawns marked as a favorite and by your friends list first.
After that you can filter out what you need or want.  I like browsing my pawns with the creators name on top so I know who to pick smile

I'm obviously doing something wrong here.  When I enter the Rift, I just get a bunch of pawns from random people.  If I go back to the stone, select "Search", and do "Friends List", I just get a message saying "No Pawns Matching the Search Conditions Can Be Found".  All vocations, weapon skills, and genders are checked under the "search conditions" tab, so I know it's not filtering people out based on those criteria.

You guys can obviously see mine (since Engine said he hired her), but I have no idea why I can't find any of your pawns.   icon_confused

EDIT:  In poking around the forums, it looks like I'm not the only one with this issue.  Lots of people are saying that can't see any friend's pawns.  Even better, it seems like the pawn rewards system is bugged, so even if someone does use your pawn, there's a good chance you might not get anything from it.  Super.   Roll Eyes

EDIT EDIT:  You guys have rested at an Inn so your pawn uploads, right?  I can't imagine that every friend I have playing hasn't done that yet (hence the empty list), but stranger things have happened...

I have only rested the one time they asked me to rest, I haven't done it at an Inn yet mostly because I hate spending money, heh.

But I did get an updated version of one of your pawns (I think Razgon's) that was now level 16 instead of 8 or 9 when I first got it.

That's one thing to keep in mind...you have to manually dismiss and re-hire pawns to get updated versions of them with their new levels, skills, gear, etc.  It's sort of a pain, but also neat because you can tailor the game's difficulty to how you want it.  Get higher level pawns to help if it's too hard, keep lower level ones if you're blowing through it all.

Also, I had to quit half-way through a dungeon so wasn't able to test out the inn thing or send pawns back to owners yet.  Should be able to when I get back later tonight, though.

Let us know if you're still having the trouble with seeing Pawns, Gratch.  I was still only ever to see yours and Razgons, even though I have 6 Steam Friends playing (though not sure how far along they are).
