Steam - Newbie question

So I quit pc gaming long ago as I got into console gaming and got sick of the constant pc upgrades. As I started checking our steam the last few months and seeing some of the cool interesting games and indie games out there, I decided to pick up a decent windows based gaming laptop. My question is about how steam works. I see how Steam has daily deals and I will not have my new laptop for a week or so. Can I sign up for a steam account on my mac just to purchase games and then later sign in to steam on my new laptop and set them up / download them to that machine. Do the games stream or download? I am assuming it is kinda like the app store where I can do something like that. I would like to get the Grimrock game on sale today.

You buy games at any time, deal or not, it remembers all purchases tied to the account you signed in with, and you download them later at your heart's content.

You should be able to purchase from any computer with internet access.  You can have your copy of Steam on as many computers as you want as long as you are only signed into one of them at a time.

As far as I know, all Steam games are things you download; no streaming Steam.

While you're browsing the Steam library, add any potential future buys to your wishlist. Steam will email you when they go on sale.

You don't even need a computer - AFAIK, both the Android and iDevice versions allow you to buy programs through it (to then obviously download later on your PC/Mac).

Yeah, you can purchase from anywhere.  If you left your machine on and Steam running, you can even tell it to start downloading after you make the purchase.
