new character and it will take place concurrently with Darksiders 1, since there is 'only one apocalypse'. Perhaps we'll get to play one of the bad guys....

I saw this and was bummed, War was such a cool character and I thought the ending of the first game lead perfectly into a sequel.

I was pretty intrigued by the idea of a game staring Pestilence or Famine because I think there would be a lot of room to cook up some unorthodox game play mechanics around those characters. Then I discovered that, in the Darksiders mythology, the Horsemen are War, Death, Strife, and Fury. Don't get me wrong: the first game was so expertly assembled that I think a sequel has great potential...but those four characters sound like palette swaps of each other. It just smacks of taking the easy way out. -Autistic Angel

I am also disappointed about this, was expecting War to continue with his story and the possibility of playing co-op with the other horseman
However I loved the first game a will most likely play/buy part 2

while i have faith in that team to pull off another great game, put me in the group that's disappointed we're not getting a sequel that picks up where the last game ended. the ending of Darksiders was the perfect setup for a follow-up featuring another of the Horsemen. i understand their point that you can only bring about the end of the world once, but i have a hard time imagining how they'll come up with a separate story that supposedly takes place at the same time as (and interacts with) the original plot without feeling at least a little contrived. i don't doubt that Vigil will come up with fun gameplay considering how much i enjoyed the first game, but today's news worries me a bit when it comes to story...

Yeah, that's a little weird. Seems like they'll be retconning some stuff since War had a very specific role in the first game.
What, are they going to have 4 games and then the fifth will take place at the end of the first game?

As long as the dungeons don't suck as much the next time around, I'm game. Really I'm just talking about the final dungeon which was horribly designed.

There's a summary of the Game Informer information here. It sounds like they're making it into almost an action-RPG. Vigil plans to have 4 hub citys that have NPC's that you can interact and trade with.
Collecting loot is important, Death has 12 different slots for equipping things
Armor can make you more effective in combat or might protect you against certain elements other loot can add bonus to skills or attributes
New leveling system with skill trees
Can acquire sidequest from NPCs but they don't want them all to be fetch or kill quest for example some sidequests can open up new dungeons that have there own theme Sounds awesome!

Yeah, definitely sounds more action/rpg, as opposed to a straight Zelda/Metroidvania system. There's no doubt they still have that Zelda style progression, but making the combat more interesting with gear is a good sign.
The Darksiders combat system, in my opinion, was a hair's breadth away from being great, instead it made mistakes that made it a mediocre fighting engine that took a bit too much from Zelda.
I'm still wondering if this takes place before, during, or after War's return to Earth for vengeance.

According to the Game Informer article, it takes place during the same time period as the first game.

Well, I finally got around to playing and finishing the first Darksiders. There were some puzzle sections that lingered too long, but otherwise it was a great game. I probably would have enjoyed it with a little more combat. Perhaps Death will provide that. I'm looking forward to it.
I must admit that I'd really like to play (presumably) the last game where the four horsemen ride together. Online coop would be great.

Goosebumps. It seems like a less overwrought Devil May Cry, and that is a fantastic thing.
ALL IN. I hope this helps THQ in their goal to becoming a AAA publisher, and put behind them these rumors.

The review embargo expired either yesterday or today so they are flooding in, Metacritic has the game in the low 80s which I think is good considering how easy this could have been to mess up. It wasn't so much the gameplay in the first game that everyone loved but the story and atmosphere, which it appears the sequel has maintained.

Guess ill stick with amazon. Curse them for the different preorder perks.
Details from link: Gamestop gets you “Death Rides” quest pack : - multiple exclusive sidequests in the Maker’s Realm and Dead Plains areas
- you’ll aid an ancient Construct
- battle The Bloodless
- retrieve Karn’s lost treasure
Best Buy gets “Angel of Death” pack - it gives you:- special enhanced armour with angel-inspired design
- a pair of matching scythes
- a special purple trail for your crow
Amazon gets the “Deadly Despair” pack :- speed boost for Death’s horse, Despair, which allows you to travel faster
I think I'd rather have the Gamestop one. I want MORE game time, not less.

Apparently, from comments on podcasts, they keep the great atmosphere, story, and general zelda-like gameplay, but the combat is much, much improved.
They describe it as the best Zelda clone ever, with some nice violence and some ways surpasses Zelda in areas like combat.

If by gametime you mean travelling to an area, ill stick with faster travel. I can't imagine the extra gamestop quests are going to be lengthy... But if they are ill buy the codes over eBay.

THQ has said the game will not ship until it's done: MF: There’s a reaction from the investing community about a critically acclaimed game, though. So, the question is, will Darksiders II still ship on June 26?
THQ PR REP: Honestly, I can’t confirm that right now. The team is actually on the road. I can get back to you.
DB: Darksiders II is looking really, really good. It’s a huge game. It looks like… I don’t want to give the exact amount of hours of gameplay… but it’s a very, very lengthy and involved campaign. We’re going to give that team everything they need to make it as good as it can be.
MF: So there is a chance for a delay?
DB: We haven’t announced anything… but the team is working really, really hard. We’re not going to ship it before it’s done. hopefully they stick to that and delay it if it needs to be polished more.
