I'd still rather play Tit'nFall on an Xbone than on a 360 or my aging PC. What I'd really love is for them to come out and state for sure that the game will be out on the PS4 later in 2014 and at 1080p so I can stop being torn on which console to get first.

went ahead and pre-ordered the CE for the XB1.  they had it for the PC as well, but since I'll be more than likely double dipping I know I can get the PC version for cheaper.  not sure if I'll keep the CE pre-order, but might as well have one locked in place just in case I decide to go that route instead of the regular version.

You joke but

Sounds like Respawn didn't find out about this deal until recently as well.

As long as it's on the PC as well, who cares? Seems like wasted money to me.

Dead Rising 3 and Ryse are much stronger exclusives, since they are not on PC.

They'll need to deal directly with Respawn in that case, as I think their deal with EA was for one game only, and they retained the rights.  Less the exclusivity, I find it interesting that Vince and crew have lost control of their game to another publisher somewhat.

Yeah it does seem weird, but glad they retained the rights.  Hopefully, MS doesn't pull the same deal they pulled with Bungie and Halo.

There's no reason they can't use Azure for the PC or even 360 version, heck even Sony or Nintendo could use Azure.

And seriously....

1.  dudebro games are better on consoles.   seamless multiplayer, more available opponents, etc
2.  Mass numbers of console gamers are not going to buy this thing for the PC.    The people that typically buy PC shooters (steam enthusiasts) will, but that number is far outweighed by the new breed of console COD/Halo nuts

But you spin all good Xbox news as 'meh', and all bad Xbox news as 'OMGZ!!!!!'.    So I'm not expecting much.

I would love to know what went on behind the scenes. This kind of stuff is fascinating for me. I guess MS must have realized after the fact what a hit they had on their hands and wanted to make sure that it wasn't on other next gen consoles and paid another pound of flesh. I wonder how much money that took. Perhaps not as much as I would expect as the number of consoles out in the wild will be much lower than current gen consoles. I'm not too bothered as I don't play shooters on consoles (unless they're free). What really surprises me is that the developers seem to be as surprised as everyone else. Did EA go behind their backs and make a separate peace as it were?

So Titanfall has garnered three reactions:

Those getting an Xbox One: YAY!
Those who refuse to get an Xbox One: I'm getting it on PC or 360!

Wait, what? You think that 360 version is going to run better than the Xbox One? Uh, ok...

The third one is from CeeKay which, in pic form looks like this:

Back on topic:

Titanfall looks awesome, and it changes the multiplayer aspect in ways I can appreciate. It's like Battlefield + Mechassault. Nothing wrong with that. That it isn't available on Sony or Nintendo platforms isn't necessarily a bad thing - Gears of War was the same on the 360, and it sold gangbusters.

As for looking for Titanfall 2, EA has already indicated they're looking at at least 2-to-3 year development cycle, so we could be looking at something like this:

2013 - Battlefield 4
2014 - Titanfall
2015 - SW Battlefront
2016 - Battlefield 5?
2017 - Titanfall 2

Not to say they can't switch it up or double up on one year. Who knows, maybe Battlefront will be a PS4 exclusive instead.

But at this point Titanfall is promising. It hasn't hatched yet, so let's not go counting chickens.

Keep in mind the property is not MS exclusive just the first game, as of now of course, I'm sure if it does well MS will try and lock it up.
This is direct from Zampella

But I agree that EA would probably like to make it biannual if not annual like CoD was for Activision.

I'm not racist, I have black friends. slywink

It's a good move for MS to secure this, even though it's actually Respawn getting screwed on extra revenue a year from launch. Apparently EA made this deal on their own, and there's no indication that Respawn is getting any of the money dumptrucked at EA's feet to secure this deal.

The only problem I'd have with this is if Respawn got none of the money from the deal. The whole reason I'm okay with exclusives is that the console makers have to pay out money to developers and publishers to make them so, often funding games that would have had a hard time getting made, or be made at all. I mean, a spiritual successor to Shogo: MAD that's mainly multiplayer? Who would actually fund that? Tongue

If only EA gets money from the deal, Respawn essentially gets nothing from it and loses out on at least half, if not more, of a potential market to get a percentage of revenue from.

So if the deal really was a back office as it sounds, Respawn gets screwed. Boom.

I strongly doubt that they own the rights to the Titanfall name. That's probably in EA's hands.

Since they say its only the first game which is an exclusive, I'd think they have the rights still for future games, but who knows.

That doesn't have anything to do with Respawn's rights. It's about EA's deal with Microsoft, which is limited to one title and doesn't give Microsoft rights to the franchise. In almost all publisher/developer relationships, the publisher owns the rights, not the developer.
