Yeah, I think they waited too long for the DLC. I finished the game awhile ago and traded it in while it still had good value. I'm guessing that the DLC will sell well, but I bet there are a lot of people like me who aren't too motivated to go back to GTA4 and it'll under perform expectations (especially compared to the insane amount Microsoft paid for DLC exclusivity).

I seem to recall reading/hearing it has about 20 hours of content.

I'm in, although maybe not next week so I can finish up some other things I am working on.

BTW, if you are not averse to minor spoilers, there is a fun reveal at the end of the second trailer.

Just to point out, the name of the DLC is "The Lost and Damned."

It seems everyone, myself included, wants to put that second "the" in there.  It's just a better sounding title that way.

I'm in. I really enjoyed GTAIV, but I'm the weird one who doesn't like to just cause mayhem and get my warrant level up. I like the story missions. Plus it's coming at a good time for me. It is looking like Street Fighter IV is going to take away a lot of the COD crowd, so I'll switch over to this for a little bit.

At 20 hours I could see getting it.  Of course I would have to get the game first.  But since I can pick it up any day at Blockbuster for $14.99 I guess that doesn't make the total price too bad.  Around $30.  Pretty good for that length any more.

What I heard was 20 hours for this download - that way it is equal in value to the 60 hours you got for the $60 you paid for the original game.

EDIT: just did a little googling, and some places say 12-20 hours. So it probably depends on how you play the game. Perhaps there are optional things like races, etc. as in the original game.

and the spoiler:
Spoiler for Hiden:
Niko appears at some point in the game

oh yeah i noticed that and Rockstar said that the voice actor wouldnt be doing any dialogue for this DLC,a falling out i think after the guy who did his voice started to complain about how much money he got

so,he either doesnt say that much or they had already recorded his voice and maybe cut it out of the retail game and put it back in now

there are some missions that cross paths with the original story, like the one where Nico, Playboy X and the biker (I forget his name but he's the one you play as) have to escape a SWAT team when a drug deal goes bad thanks to an undercover cop and then they split up with Nico/Playboy going one way and you the other, so chances are they'll use the stuff recorded for GTA IV for those rare occassions.

If they got rid of the friendships then I can deal with the cops. Having to keep up the friendships made parts of the game a chore, and was one of the only bad things in the game.

Was there any friendship you had to keep up?  I just stopped answering my phone altogether when I wasn't on a mission and I feel like nothing bad happened.

Is that another Kiki line?  I've never tried picking her up on a motorcycle because I'm worried that slamming off the pavement at 70mph might leave her a less effective voice denouncing the persecution of violent psychopaths.  On the other hand, someone once told me that one of her favorite date activities is being shot, so maybe I should give it a try.

The character archetypes in Grand Theft Auto IV aren't very nuanced, but that doesn't mean they aren't fun. icon_cool

I think Carmen's perk is really glitchy, too.  Even when she's happy and Niko thanks her for helping out, it only ever took effect the very first time I tried it.

I wonder if that was patched at all in the PC version.

first the acheivements
Quote
Get Good Wood – 50G: In the Bike Races, whack off 69 bikers with a bat.
Easy Rider – 100G: Finish The Story
Full Chat – 70G: Your backup are riding at their best!
The Lost Boy – 25G: All hail the leader of The Lost!
One Percenter – 5G: Billy is back on his bike.

then they list the hands on from a few places, like IGN or Kotaku

IGN wrote:

Depending on skill level and amount of time you spend messing around, Rockstar expectsThe Lost and Damnedto take anywhere from 12-20 hours to complete. And that's just the single-player story. For $20 (1,600 MSP), L&D offers a full-fledged campaign, new locations, new mini-games (arm wrestling!), refined gameplay mechanics, new vehicles, new weapons, a hefty new soundtrack, new DJs, new TV shows, new Internet sites, and new multiplayer. One thing's for certain: Rockstar isn't ****ing around with horse armor.

To access The Lost & Damned, boot up a copy of GTA IV and start a new game. You can now choose between GTA IV and L&D. Though both take place in Liberty City, the two are separate stories and separate game worlds, meaning you don't gain access to the new interiors in L&D if you're playing GTA IV. You can't take Niko into The Lost clubhouse to kill a bunch of bikers, sorry. Aside from the initial download, you won't need an Xbox Live connection to play L&D. Unlike some downloadable content, there's no online verification required. So if the 'net goes down, you can still take L&D for a spin

Kotaku wrote:

What's Unique About It?
Johnny's already established in Liberty City. He won't be building relationships with the burg's low-life. Johnny and The Lost already have reputations, they already have safehouses to squat in. And they already have enemies.

The Lost And Damned's most obvious changes are new bullet point additions like new weapons, new vehicles, new interiors, and new radio, internet and television content. Johnny has access to weaponry previously unavailable to Niko, including an automatic 9 MM pistol, a sawed off shotgun, an assault shotgun, a grenade launcher and pipe bombs. You'll get access to the fun-to-fire grenade launcher in the mission "Action/Reaction," in which Johnny does serious damage to his rival's clubhouse, thanks to a stream of grenades.

Rockstar reps pointed out that some of the game's new music and radio chatter will be tailored toThe Lost And Damnedexperience. That translates to new music for the game's rock, hardcore and metal radio stations and a little less so for the jazzier, more world beat stations. Think more "Ace of Spades" by Motörhead, less Dizzy Gillespie.

There are even new mini-games (arm wrestling!) and still unannounced multiplayer additions on top of the already revealed changes, neither of which we got a chance to play during our hands on time.

Less obvious additions help to differentiateThe Lost And Damnedfrom Niko's trip through Liberty City. Menus have a distinct, grungier look, with a new grittier film-grain effect giving Johnny's story a more appropriate visual styIe. Even his cell phone looks more bad ass. Rockstar has also added more weight to the expansion's motorcycles — all of them, not just the choppers — to make riding a little easier on the player.

GS wrote:

We grabbed the controls at this stage and set about walking Johnny around to see how different a character he was to Niko. He certainly acted differently onscreen, exhibiting a unique set of mannerisms from what we were used to with Niko. The first mission we took on was called Action/Reaction, in which Billy ordered the Lost to attack the Angels' clubhouse in retaliation for the supposed murder of a young Lost member (fans of GTAIV, however, will remember that it was actually Niko who capped that biker in the No Love Lost mission). Johnny starts the mission off with a grenade launcher, pegging an explosive through the Angels' clubhouse window to start the pain. Plenty of Angels then stream out of the building, starting a large firefight with the five or so members of the Lost who are acting as backup. After the opposition is cleaned up outside, Billy and Johnny make their way into the clubhouse to finish off the remaining Angels. In the basement, Billy orders another Lost to take the Angels' stash of heroin, prompting Johnny to suspect that revenge was never Billy's motive for the attack.

THAT'S the big thing the Major has been hinting at? I hope not. Some childish bit of soft(ahem!) porn isn't going to make people want it any more. And why, oh why, would Rockstar and whoever owns it nowadays want to piss off distributors during a major recession? I can only hope that this is all just idle rumor.

Downloaded it already this morning  thumbsup

Logged on XBL at 0500 EST, download was already available (damn, could I have started it a half hour earlier before I took my shower?). Started the DL of 1.78 GB and was going to let it run while I went to work, but I noticed that it was at 1%... 2%... 3%... while I watched. Quick calculation determined it would be finished in 35 minutes so I grabbed a book and started reading.

Download did take just about 35 minutes. Fired it up. First of all, XBL wants you to install an update, but that's no big surprise. Started GTA4 again and before any loading screens up pops the question, you have download TL&D, do you want to play it now? Oh, yes please. Sit through loading screens, just like GTA4 except new images, same amount of time, meaning less than ten seconds.

Next up was opening credits cutscene. Watched this. Characters introduced while riding their choppers. Next was cut scene of... well, I won't give it away. Then you drive your cycle for a few blocks, then another cut scene, then you leave on a mission... at this point (15 minutes in) I had to leave for work, so I didn't really get to do any missions, but assuming I can bypass the cutscenes I'm all set for this afternoon.

yeah i downloaded at about 9.30am GMT(it still wasnt on our marketplace but the xbox.com link to the marketplace was up)

i watched Terminator(the first one)..and by the time that had finished, the download had finished(took about the same time as the film,100minutes)

i like it how,it isnt just one lot of missions, there are different people,to go to,your choice like the full game(which another full game this feels like)...club house is pretty cool, although i am not sure the usefulness of the memorial wall..it said in the tutorial 'to use it'

the memorial wall shows all the people who die during missions, not that i have spoiled anything there..as it depends on how good you are which decides if anyone goes on the wall...if you have a really bad mission,i suppose lots of your gang could end up on the wall(think of them as Banther fodder, one guy in your gang goes down they get replaced by another member from the clubhouse)..so i am thinking its non essential characters who go up on the wall

i was doing the first mission riding with my gang,i was out in front ...so i try and make the others fall by driving like a dick and only just missing cars etc...i look behind me to see how they do and it is pretty funny seeing them either drive too fast for a corner or drive into cars they can't avoid...however they never come off their bikes

Downloaded this morning no problems. I'll be spending a couple of hours with it when I get home tonight.

Do the pants have that same bulge?

I have a question on saves.  Does TL&D create its own save files or do you have to choose from the ones already in the game?  If I have to overwrite my pre-existing saves, I'll probably be OUT until I finish the game.

You choose from the same save slots - but there's, what, 15 of them?  Are you actually using all of them?

Yes, but only in the sense that I save to a new one after each mission.  It increases the chance that I'll copy over one I'm using, though, so I'll probably wait.

I think the game auto-saves after each mission automatically, so it seems like you're duplicating efforts. slywink

while i'm not surprised that you load up a different game instead of some in-game character swapping business, i'm a bit bummed that the gameplay tweaks/extras don't sound like they carry over into niko's world.

either way, i'll be getting this as soon as i can actually download it.

Not sure about the expansion but in the original game I always replaced my armor and restocked whatever car I blew up during the mission to do the real post-mission save. The auto-save was rarely used.
