I gotta say that I am loving this game. I can't remember a game that has made me feel that there might REALLY be a place like this somewhere. Soooooo immersive. All the gazzillion little touches. They outdid themselves. This is a definite play through more than once game. Right now it is my game of the year and I suspect I am only about 1/2 way or so.
Wow, is all I can say.

One thing that is getting to me is a holdover from Doom. You find an item or something to activate in the middle or at the farthest point away from the exit in a room and as soon as you pick it up you're pounced by enemies. Granted some of those setups have been kinda cool, but otherwise it's kinda old.

After playing about fifteen hours so far I'm in the middle (I think) of the Arcadia level, so I think that puts to bed any concerns about the game being too short. I'm not playing slow on purpose, but since I doubt I'll replay it again anytime soon I want to make sure I snoop into all the hidden places.
I'm really enjoying the atmosphere, the story line, the environment, sheesh it's a great game. Better than Oblivion, because the storyline is so interesting and the graphics so immersive.

Go into the map and then hit the right or left bumper until you get to a screen with the names of areas and also a tab called Radio Messages. Radio Messages are the mission updates you get from Atlas and the like but under the area names you'll find all of the audio diaries you found for that respective place.

I'll give you the graphics are slightly more immersive, but storywise neither is going to win any awards. However, Oblivion I got 80+ hours out of. this one, not so much. I'm just finishing the Apartments at maybe 15 hours at the most, and I'll be surprised if there are 5 more hours left. I don't think I've missed anything during my run through either.

I love the story personally. I think it's pretty cool to read about the society they formed and try to find out why it fell apart. Plus it's cool to find out backstory on the splicers.

This game reminds me of Colonel Kurtz with all the "mad" dialogue.
The upgraded shotgun and machine gun definitely rip it up. I can stun lock a Big Daddy now.

wait until you find the crossbow. And I just realized I'm going to need to backtrack some. I found a Power to the People machine awhile back but put off upgrading in case I found a new toy and promptly forgot about it. Or did I? crap.

Quote from over at Gamespot in a Q&A with the game developer Levine: GS: Some Big Daddy figurines with the collector's edition arrived broken. What happened to them, and what should customers do if they were stuck with one of the banged up Big Daddy figurines?
KL: You know those giant shipping containers on boats? Some guy had one of those shipping containers with half of the Big Daddy figures for the world in them and it slipped out of a crane loop and fell onto the dock. And cracked a zillion of the Big Daddy figures. If course, they didn't make two times as many figures as they expected to need, so we ended up with a bunch of people getting broken Big Daddies.
So what 2K did was they said this was a problem and people would be pissed off, understandably. They preordered this collector's edition months ago and the best thing in it besides the game is broken. I'm trying to remember the exact details of how this works, but the [important thing] is we'll get you a new Big Daddy and a printed art book as a way of saying sorry and thanks for your patience.

I put some spoiler impressions in the other topic but I'd have to say that in the end I was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong- it was really good but not nearly what I was expecting based on the initial reviews. It ultimately got a little long in the tooth for me and some game mechanics that make me doubtful I'll ever replay. There's also a lot of little flaws that by themselves aren't much but ultimately really detract from me. And the more I think about it, the more I think the game completely tanks in last quarter. It's not as bad as Body of the Many, but it still really flounders.
So for me, I"d put it in the 8.5-9.0 range but certainly not GOTY material.

I played the PC version, but I wanted to pretty much just echo this-I think I will replay it one day because I found the setting so interesting and incredible and the story kind of touching, but overall agree with Kevin completely. I would give it an 8.5 max I think-going to put longer impressions in the spoiler thread.

after what, 8-ish hours, i'm still enjoying it quite a lot. i'm tooling around with the houdini splicers and the plant lady. damn those things are annoying. glad i picked up the upgraded shock plasmid. it looks like one of them just keeled over in one hit after i hit the water pool he was standing in. getting the bd's to fight each other is great fun and well worth going through with slightly hobbled adam levels. how much of the game have i finished?

I kind of gave up on grabbing loot- in the second half of the game I was almost always maxed out on everything including money. The one important item that they drop still appears even if you shatter them.

Well, I'm playing slower and am about to enter Fleet Hall. The game does get repetative in some areas, like the constant hacking mini-game, but the sights and sounds and storyline have kept me going.

it never seemed like you'd get much from the loot but it built up pretty quickly.
