I can already tell you that there will be downloadables.  Isn't that kindof a given by this point?

I forgot it was using the Unreal Engine (whichever version they're on now) so modding for the PC should be quite possible.  Now whether or not it's with their blessing is another story  icon_wink

Smells like a case of publishers forcing devs to hold back content just to put up as pay for downloads, or as part of some console exclusive agreement.

Same here.  And it's BS.  I fuggin' hate dl'able content.  Just let me have the full game when I buy it, dammit. icon_evil

In the works yes.  Complleted, almost certainly not.  How many of these full remakes/conversions that aren't of some 20 year old Sierra game ever see the light of day?  Hell, I'm still waiting for the HL1 Source remake.

Bioshock uses the Vengeance 3 or "Bioshock Engine" which is, at its core, the Unreal Engine 3.0, but heavily heavily modified.  Its like saying that Half-Life used the Quake Engine - true, but very little of it made it through the process intact.

wow... the 2k Bioshock forums seems to have gone over the edge.  I went to see if there was any news about a PC demo and there's a ton of posts with people bitching that 2K just fucked over every PC owner on the planet and also cornholed their moms   Roll Eyes   It's not like they made it a secret that it was an announcement for the 360 version, yet people apparently forced themselves to watch Spike TV just so they could be outraged.  God help that place if and when exclusive content comes out for the 360.....

Ugh, I seem stuck at 52% like many others.  And I got disconnected from live too.  Unless it can download that 50% within the next hour, looks like no Bioshock for me tonight.

I tried media blackout on this game, but just couldn't do it.  Thankfully, I do know that Irrational tends to have lots of good plot surprises, so I know I won't be disappointed.

I do think I'll avoid discussion until I complete a large section of the game though.

So tempted to pull the demo... But I'm getting it for the PC... And I really don't want to play the game ahead of time...

Surprisingly though I read in a Carmack interview about the Rage engine and licensing that even the current Source engine still has some Quake code in it today cause Valve bought out the rights completely for it or something like that from id so they were free to do whatever. Nothing to do with Bioshock but an interesting aside.

From what 1Up's Garnett Lee said about the game on a podcast it seems like the retail game gives plenty of content for the money. He estimated even if you just power through the game its about 12 hours long and up to 20 if you take the time to explore and do optional stuff. Thats pretty good for an action game these days at least.

Heheh.  Actually, the download picked up and I was just able to play it.  Yep, stayed up late to play it.

It's everything I was looking for in a spiritual successor to System Shock, and from the little snipped I've played, it easily surpasses it.

Now the late game could be poor, but I doubt it.

The atmosphere is amazing, yes the lighting is way saturated, but that's part of the charm.

The intro to the game seriously rivals Half-Life 1 & 2, and The Darkness.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Just walking around the first area after the bathysphere and looking at leftover protest signs, the decay, all the canceled travel notices.

I found two recordings, one from this woman at a new year's party when the big war starts.  It was heartbreaking to hear her get hurt.  I love how mysterious it is, and you can get this background info with just a little deduction as you enter the area you see posters for a new year's masquerade ball, and a sign that says Happy New Year 1959, placing the date of the catastrophy at about two years ago.

And look!  There's a ghost sequence in the woman's restroom!  I wonder how they'll explain that, but I wasn't expecting it, and yet they still put it in.  Well, if any place would have ghosts, it's Rapture.

Although one small problem I saw right off the bat was a lack of exposition.  This could change for the retail release since this demo was likely completed a long while back.  But in the early area, I was wishing for a little bit more exposition from Atlas.  Now, it's nice that I can walk around and look to uncover a lot of story elements, but that tiny bit more exposition would have helped, especially since this Atlas guy knows you're new to Rapture, he could at least explain more to you.

Combat has some issues, but it's a shooter.  Enemies react to getting hit.  Location damage is key to conserve ammo.  To survive you really have to use everything at your disposal, pools of water to electrify, hacked bots, all your plasmids.

The switch between plasmids and weapon is a bit clunky, but workable.  Always make sure you're loaded with EVE before and during a fight.  Nothing like trying to ignite or electrify an enemy that's running at you, only to have to inject eve.  Thankfully should that happen you can interrupt the animation and quickly switch back to your weapon to shoot.

Once again, the demo delivers on what they promised.  Now all that's left is to see if the rest of the game follow suit.

loved it....i set the demo downloading and went to bed, woke up like it was christmas morning and ran to my 360...i had been asleep for about 5-6 hrs..everything had downloaded(i also downloaded the bioshock trailer)

size of the demo is....bigger than obviously heavenly sword, and bigger than stranglehold

this demo begins right from the start of the game,so maybe those out there not wanting anything spoilt ought to not play the demo yet

the graphics, the atmos were all very well done

there is a choice of difficulty for the demo, easy and medium...the hard difficulty wasnt able to be chosen

i have one complaint up to now...and hopefully because its a demo it will be rectified in the full game...i desperately need subtitles

could do with a little more emotion from your guy,,first time i killed someone,he didnt seem that bothered

EDIT:okay,i found subtitles,lol

I certainly hope not but Irrational does have a bit of sore spot with me for the end of System Shock 2.  Body of the Many is one of my most hated levels ever.  If I ever replay SS2 I will be stopping the game when I get there.

MS needs to have a special reserve of servers for big releases like this.  XBL should never go down like alot of the reports I've seen because of a demo being released....

Played it last night - as expected, very immersive, crazy nice graphics & nice opening story segment.  Big Daddy is a freakin' monster!

Basically, the demo confirmed my original plan - a game that would be worthy of a buy for immersive & a little suspenseful FPS.  Unfortunately, I tend to put rhode types of games down... So this will be a sweet rental   icon_smile

Hot damn at the water graphics though...

I think I just used cheats just to get to the end cause the Body was so annoying.  Of course then I got the cliffhanger which will probably never be finished...
