Maybe I'm just not a Sonic fan, but this demo is absolute rubbish. I dislike how Sonic controls (stop sliding, you twat), and the camera makes me fall to my doom over and over repeatedly. That said, fans of the Sonic games would probably dig it, since it feels essentially just like the Dreamcast Sonic game I remember playing oh, so long ago.

I only played for a few minutes, but I was thoroughly unimpressed - I had the same control issues as you.

Every impression I've read so far has been negative. Haven't tried it and probably won't bother at this point.
Now I did read that the 'mystery ip' coming to LA might be Doom. That'd be pretty sweet.

I'll pull it and make my own choices as to how it is, but this isn't a good sign.

I had the same issues with it at E3....wayyyy too difficult to control. I think that most of the other parts of the game are positive, but if the controls aren't up to snuff, then it will unfortunately continue the downslide of the Sonic games.

Most of the 3D Sonic games are too difficult to control. I gave up on Sonic Heroes because of the controls.

I thought it was just me. Man, those controls are awful. Worst I've seen on a Sonic title. Graphics look okay, though. I hope they can wrestle this thing into playability. I could enjoy it if I wasn't falling to my death every other move. Hell, if they got rid of the "lives" it probably wouldn't be as much of an issue.
I did play through to the end of the level, though. You can see how it could work, but unless they smooth out the controls, forget it.
They've got, what, a month and a half (though who knows how old the demo is)? I guess anything is possible.

I've never played a Sonic game and thought 'oh cool' when I saw this topic... Reading posts, y'all just saved me the time to download it and 15 minutes. Thanks!

The camera needs to be back about another 50ft, and you shouldn't be able to fall off ledges. I mean cripes man, it took 3 lives to get to the save point first go-round. It turns me off to trying to collect rings; now it's all about the survival.

After watching (and listening, which is more entertaining) to Moriarty play... I will defnitely not play this game myself. Might be worth watching moriarty play though.

The camera also moves way too slowly. Although you can snap it behind Sonic with the left trigger, which is a little useful.

+1, +1, and +1. Wow...what a craptastic demo. And here I was thinking of getting it when it came out. Guess I won't now thanks to this. Terrible, terrible demo, IMHO. Not worth my download time (which wasn't much mind you).

it's shiny and pretty, and the gameplay looks great (all nice and SA2-ish) but i HATE the camera (why the hell do i need a top-down cam on the stupid hedgehog when he's running full-tilt at a series of obstacles?! where is my fricken chase cam??? *shake fist*), and the controls are really unweildy compared to the sonic adventure games. i VASTLY preferred charging up his ring dashes and his super homing attacks -- this 'single press' crap has me bouncing him down bottomless pits instead of surfing ring trails. and slide? why slide? shouldn't the stupid little blue bastard be able to ROLL, like he's done for EVERY OTHER sonic game??? grrr. they made some really dumb choices, but the game in general looks very promising.
(on a side note, it's a shame that SA2 crashes so much, because i really adore it. i miss my pet chao.)

I fucking hate how Sonic slides. I swear, I'll get the little bastard into a slide (don't know how) and I can't get him out. And he controls like a twitchy meth-addict while sliding. Awful.

Man, that game controls horribly. I really liked the graphics and wanted to like the demo (my son really wanted me to like it a lot to, so that I would eventually buy it), but unless they do something to those controls, the game is close to unplayable. I did get a little better at it as I played, but you shouldn't have to fight the controls the whole time you play.
