Lets hope people are courteous enough NOT to direct link the video this time....otherwise I'll just keep renaming the file like I did last time.

Nice clip!  All in game combat for those who haven't seen it yet.  Those spell effects, the way the weapons fly away on the last two horned guys, I can't wait!

Yeah, that looked great.  The physics seem a lot better than Morrowind (if this has been brought up a million times, my apologies, I haven't seen much video of Oblivion).  Those minotaurs went FLYING

No, the bow is enchanted with an area effect lighting spell (maybe some other stuff too).  Arrows inherit whatever enchantment or poison is on the bow.  Area-effect damage spells send enemies flying.

That is just the Heartlands. The area around the Imperial City.

Actually I think you might be right about poisons going on the arrows.  I'll double check tomorrow.  I think you can actually poison an arrow then launch it from an enchanted bow, and the poison and the enchantment stack.

They're one shot only because otherwise, they'd be enchantments smile  Also, so there's more strategy involved in when to use them.  You have to save your good ones for when you're in trouble, or when you want that stealthy one-shot kill.

Haha, I was just reading the Penny-Arcade forums and some guy was talking about randomly flipping through his strat guide.  He accidentally opened it right to a screenshot that spoiled a major part of the endgame.  Be careful with those guides!

Yeah I'm going no where near that thing. In some ways I feel I know too much allready but in truth I'm sure it's about 1% of the game.

Welcome to the site Greg.  I'm right there with you - I know exactly what I have to know to work on the site and host videos and such, but even knowing that much, I'm sure it doesn't scratch the surface.

Same here! smile

I know all about the horses and vampires. I skipped over most of the stuff about the houses. It's hard to skip over all the awesome new pictures though....

Man, from what I have read about the game so far in the guide, it is MUCH MUCH MUCH improved over Morrowind.

Yep, there are bandits and highwaymen.

The highwaymen....

(small spoiler)

Spoiler for Hiden:
are kind of noble bandits. They are always Khajiit's and two levels higher than you. They are much rarer than bandits. They make a demand for money. You can try and plead poverty, but you have to be dressed in a manner than supports your tale of woe, ie  naked or in common simple clothes, no pleading poverty and wearing noble clothing or enchanted armor....they won't believe you. smile

Oh and here are some of the smaller settlements names:

Spoiler for Hiden:

Border Watch - Small town of Khajiit's, near the border with Elsweyr
Brindle Home - Small Settlement in the Great Forest
Hackdirt - Read about in the PC Gamer article, don't know where it is, cause I am not reading too much of the guide that would have that info. Town of Religious Fanatics

There are lots of others, but I am not going to look for all of them in the guide cause I don't want to spoil it too much. The ones I found out about were in other sections of the guide, not the quest spoiler part.

Oh yeah, I read about Vampires, only because I told myself I would never become one. But damn, they do seem cool.

Question that I am sure has been asked 100 times, but I have missed: Everything in the game levels when you do, but are there still areas that are always going to start with a level 16 Lich as a minimum (for example)? Or can I pretty much go any where from the beginning without fear of running into something uber?

Something fun to do from the guide:

(not really a spoiler, but just to be safe)

Spoiler for Hiden:
apparently goblins gather around their tribal totems. Steal a totem, and switch it with another (or several other) tribes totems. The whole trible will travel the countryside (they can't teleport, even though you can) and fight the other tribes and anything else in their paths.

I believe that there are certain places with creatures that are always Level 16+. Most places and characters will be leveled to you, but there are some that start out as a high level.

I picked up the guide yesterday, and have managed to avoid pretty much everything after page 68.  I accidentally plopped the book open to the Main Quest section, and quickly shielded my eyes and purged my memory of everything I saw.  I did check out the vampire section too, and I really like the way they're handled in Oblivion.

There are rumors going around now that Gamestop.com has started shipping the game today. So, if you ordered from them, expect it (hopefully) on Monday.

Also, the highwaymen took me by surprise. Ironically, I was accosted right after stealing a newswomens horse. I got off to fight him, then "my" horse left. frown

Our strategy guide is the 64th best selling book on Amazon.com.    Not 64th out of all strategy guides, out of all books.  Insanity.  Prima says getting a strategy guide to crack the top -500- is "amazing".
