I actually loved the book.  Not pretentious in any way, which I despise, and just plain entertaining in a movie experience sort of way.  Which is the ONLY reason I read fiction in the first place.

I definitely recommend reading it prior to the game.

I NEVER thought I'd say this, but Halo3 is filling the void nicely.

My Half-Life2 should arrive in about a week too, so I'm not sweating the remaining time.  thumbsup

that reminds me, I don't have to sweat the void either.  I got TF2, the NWN2 expansion, CoD4 and the Witcher to fill it  icon_biggrin  (episode 2 will just be a mini-snack).

MS is still publishing Mass Effect.  EA will let this one head out the door without putting their hands on it, I'm sure.

Game Informer gave it a 9.75 I believe.  Said the characters, storyline and universe were amazing, but the gameplay and combat were spotty.  I found the review worrisome.

To be honest, a lot of game reviewers find repetitiveness in games. Such is the nature of playing through games (especially as big as Mass Effect) so quickly. Not saying it won't be true, just a little early to pass judgement on such things. smile

I wouldn't worry too much about GI's review.  Their RPG reviews are all over the place.  Some are spot-on, while some are so far off the mark, you wonder what game they were playing.

I just love some of the extreme character interaction choices in this game.  In that last video, you just outright deck a raving lunatic unconscious.

And:
Spoiler for minor spoiler from another spotlight video:
In another instance after fighting your way to some crime boss' hideout and interrogate him, you can execute him with one bullet for getting so many people killed.

So the core interactive gameplay is spotty?  That's very worrisome.  Thankfully the dialog system is slightly more interactive than the usual pick from a list of 4 responses, so that could make up for it.  But this game is primarily an action/rpg/shooter.

What I really want from this game........Character development and interaction. Exploration and discovery. and lastly, combat and tactics.

So if the combat is spotty, and the rest warrants top marks I'm a happy camper.

In today's world of gaming its seldom "everyone" gets their wish list fulfilled.

I think with this game we'll get our cake and eat it too.......It just might not have the amount of icing some would wish for.
But it will hit the spot nicely with a cup of tea.

I see no way this game can be all the things people want it to be.  Too hyped.  For me, personally, give me a killer story set in an epic galactic scenario with sweet combat and story-related-detective-like interaction, then I'm happy.  But if it turns out to be just walking up and listening to meaningless characters drone on about things not related to the story, I will be bored almost immediately.

From the vids I have seen to date, it seems to walk the line on all of those quite nicely.  Cannot wait.

I think we can expect it to be at least as good as KotOR's combat, which isn't saying much but still is a working system.

did a little searching on the Mass Effect forums, and it looks like you can get the disc at BestBuy right now...just put down $5 for your preorder and take a disc home.  apparently you can also get the same disc by preordering online at Gamestop/EB, but i try to avoid giving them any of my money.  i also found a little more detailed info on the disc contents...

Short Documentary
12 GamerPics
Two Complete Themes
Three Songs from Mass Effect soundtrack
Four Mass Effect Trailers
Blue Dragon Demo
Lost Odyseey, Halo 3, and Halo Wars Videos

I imagine they're hoping this game will be a reason lots of people finally buy a 360. Any PC news will likely come after the release of the 360 version...
