I just watched the vids of the conversation, and I kind of have to agree with TML that it was kind of boring.  Maybe it's just because they were out of context....

Just how exciting do you want an expository conversation at the beginning of the game to be? slywink  It's kind of like saying that Star Wars is boring because it's not very exciting watching Luke talk to his aunt and uncle.

Did you guys read some of the user comments on that dude's impressions of ME? They are disregarding the game just because that particular conversation seemed emotionless. I swear, these 360 games are receiving unfair criticism. No one complained about emotionless NPCs in Oblivion.

thats Sean Bean for you icon_razz icon_biggrin

and yes Ceekay...i am ignoring your comment!! Tongue

Do the words, Nit and Picking mean anything to you?

Seriously, I can count on one hand how many times I said, "Wow, that was an exciting exchange of words I just had with that NPC" in any game.

But this was my concern with this game months ago. Way too much hype....How can it live up to all that expectation?

I thought it was just fine.  I understand TML's comments on it being "soulless", but the conversation came off more as 'story set up' than anything else.  I'm not overly concerned.

I just watched the three new walkthrough videos.  OMFG!  Dear Lord, this game cannot come soon enough. Quite simply, it will be instantly my favorite game EVAR.

forever and ever?  what about when the sequel comes out?

Okay, you got me there.  It is going to be a trilogy afterall.  Bottom line, I think they will be good games.

I don't recall criticism, I remember people praising the amount of dialogue in the game and the well-done voice-acting. Are you referring to their daily schedules?

No, he is referring to everyone being obsessed with the same nonsense.

All voiced by the same three actors.  The lack of VO variety in Oblivion drove me nuts.

yeah Oblivion MPCs were pretty bad for the range of voices,i thought they may of even got new voice actors in for the shivering isles ...but no such luck, apart from that mad jester lord idiot guy..whatever his name was

and seen as though mass effect is Bioware,i will be pleased with the NPCs if they are like KOTOR,as i had no problem with the NPCs in that game...but it should be better(with it being next gen and all that)

Nope.  I'm referring to the fact that you again (like Morrowind) had a laundry list of things you could ask people that were mostly generic.  None of the NPC's really felt like "people".  They were more like a walking reference library with schedules.  And you would hear an NPC talking as you passed by in one voice and then when you talked to him/her they would have a completely different voice.  It was seriously jarring.  Plust their faces were oddly shaded which gave them a shiny or plastic look.

I love how we're going to have a 15 page thread (at least) devoted to the game prior to it releasing. Impressions starting on page 2? Try page 22, bitches! icon_lol

Please.  Mass Effect is a big enough title to have about 20 threads.  Of course, half of them will be [spoiler free] tagged as well.  Here's some of the crap I'm predicting - it will be hysterical:

1. Topic: Mass Effect - Official Impressions Thread  (aka: Watch as my thread gets 7 bajillion responses, I rock!11!)

2. Topic: Mass Effect - Official Impressions [Spoiler Free] :  Yeah right, who is this person kidding?

3. Topic: ME - Official Weapons Discussion : Yep, this one will be needed alright!

4. Topic: ME - How did you make your Commander? :  This is my current setup... what's yours!?

5.  Topic: ME - Things they messed up on : This will be the nitpickers dream thread.  The tires on the land vehicle don't have the exact right psi?  The npc's voice isn't alien enough?  Biotic power XYZ is overpowered?  This is the thread for you!  Come share how the game was overhyped and how you 'told us so.'

6. Topic: ME - I got mine!  Target broke street date, playing NOW!! :  Followed by: "Dood!  Kool!  Where do u live!?!?!

7.  Topic: Mass Effect - 60fps? : Because God only knows we need a thread devoted solely to the 'perceived' framerate of the game.

and on, and on, and on, and on, and on...

I watched a presentation on it this weekend at the Microsoft booth at PAX and it just looks amazing.  I pretty much tend to stay away from videos and the like, so this was one of my first good looks at the combat and dialog tree.  The fact that an RPG has a cover system just rocks my world.  Also got a sweet Mass Effect t-shirt for free for watching the presentation.

I never thought I'd say this, but: I am anticipating Mass Effect less than I have in months and months. The reason? Bioshock.

I cannot possibly see Mass Effect being as good as this game. Period.

The bar has been raised. What can possibly live up to it or surpass it?
