I would offer every copy of EMERGENCY that Starshifter owns if this is true...I am sure shifty wouldn't mind parting with that sub par TV show anyways....

My name is CeeKay, and I endorse this offer.

Good lord I would give ATB's left nut if that was true.

You have ATB's left nut?! How did- Never mind. I don't want to know.

Nno no no no no silly, I will take it and offer it to the gods in exchange for this.

Waitwaitwait... so you're offering to TOUCH ATB's left nut? I'm pretty sure that's stepping beyond the supposed hetero-man-crush way.

First time in this thread and Shifty is offering up my copy of CH2k7 - DURING March Madness no less!?  -  Not a good idea, Shifty!

Regarding Mass Effect, has there been an announcement on how many planets in-total are going to be visitable? (is that a word?)

Is the fighting true real-time (like Jade Empire) or is more like KotoR?  Just curious.

From what I've read....somewhere between Jade Empire and Ghost Recon:AW with a pause button.

Agreed.  I'm hoping they are placeholders because they aren't up to Bioware's usual standards (I particularly like the KOTOR cover art).

I think the cover is cool, but then again I could care less about the cover.  They could just put Mass Effect in block letters on the front and I would be fine.

Since I will be playing the actual game and not the cover of the box it comes in, I couldn't care less if it were to be smeared in my dog's excrement.  I have been salivating over this game since I first heard of it, anticipating it even more than Halo 3, so even if they were to wrap it in tissue paper and toss it in a gift bag (one of my biggest pet peeves), I'll still dance a jig and pirouette all the way home from Best Buy the moment I have this wonderful gem in my hands.

They've said there will be hundreds of locations to visit, ranging from places that probably only take a minute to explore to full-blown explorable planets.

Some locations are little more than a small cutscene, or even a few lines of voice over as the normandy picks up a distant beacon.

July is looking more likely now frown

From 1Up Article:

Quote
Kim talked about when Mass Effect would release: "It makes no sense for first party titles to compete with other first party titles. It's really about showcasing the platform." Kim said. "Mass Effect is the kind of title I would not be afraid to [launch in the summer]. It's the kind of title that we could launch in the middle of August in France and people would still buy it."

Forza has already been confirmed for May and Shadowrun is expected in June and Blue Dragon is August.  So holding to  their "non-compete" philosophy, the only window is July.  Better than delayed until Fall but I'd lying if I said I wasn't disappointed.

Also can be gleaned from the article:

Despite Silicon Knight's protests to the contrary- no room for Too Human which is making it look like a 2008 game.

Bioware has also released in the middle of summer before, with KOTOR coming out toward the end of July.

Umm IGN has projections on all its preview pages for release dates. SOmetimes they are real, sometimes they are from EB, sometimes they are just made up. That is in no way definitive smile

It's been confirmed in interviews that there is no multiplayer, no co-op.

Although this is the kind of game that's screaming for it.

The tactical combat would work great in co-op.  ALso their conversation system works well for multiple people playing, with each player controlling a party member.  Using the conversation dial they can quickly interject their own comments and characterization into the story.

Hopefully we'll see that in Mass Effect 2, and you know there'll be a ME2.

I hope this game leans more toward role-playing and story driven action...than squad based shooter-type.

To tell the truth since getting the 360 last week and picking up Gears of War, Ghost Recon, Call of Duty 3, I'm just about ready for a meaty role playing game.(did the Oblivion thing on the PC)...

I've kicked my WoW habit of over 2 years...May Jesus be praised for that... nod

But I'm having my doubts that the X-box, or that console-gaming in general can ever offer me the hours upon hours of entertainment that a PC online game could...
Remember, this is my first console, and if I'm wrong in my initial let-down then I'll be the first to say it...

So.........Bring on Mass Effect.......I'm already thirsting for a bit more from my console hobby.

It's your first console, and you're basing those doubts upon playing FPS games.

There are plenty of games that will suck you in and take over your time.  Just not FPS' imho.  RPGs and Sandbox games are the ones that tend to do it.

My advice is to pick up and play Dead Rising.  That will occupy you for awhile.  I really liked Saint's Row, but ymmv.

On the old Xbox, I sunk more hours into KOTOR and Mercenaries than I choose to recall.

True I based my opinion on FPS games......but they were the ones everyone and their brothers were hollering about so I thought I should go with the most popular first........

I'll look into DR.............

Yeah, seriously, this may overtake Half-Life 2 for most lifelike characters in a video game.  Especially so since they have a lot more screen time, dialogue, and character interaction than in HL2.

I love the Twilek-like characters in this game, and all the aliens so far, some will complain about having all humanoid aliens, but it helps with empathizing with them.  It looks like they've taken all the good stuff about Star Wars, but ditched the baggage that is the license along with the D20 rules and have really turned out an amazing rpg.
